Dear Friends,

gain I am happy to be able to come to you with recent information from

World Archery. After a very successful conclusion to 2010 with our World

Cup Final in Edinburgh, we continued to build on the success and the experience

of our major events.

With regard to our World Cups, 2011 has had a very promising beginning

to the series. Stage 1 of the World Cup was in Porec and we experienced a great

turn-out of athletes for this event: a record 363 archers. This was an excellent

start to the World Cup series with high performance of the archers and high

media coverage.

We just finished our second World Cup leg in Antalya, also with great suc-

cess. Not to be outdone by Porec, the archers showed up again in record numbers

in Antalyawith 375 participants! And they brought with them several new world

records. The competitions were great, especially considering the abnormal winds

and rain that occurred this year in Antalya. Congratulations to our athletes! In

addition, World Archery was honoured to host the IOC President, Count Jacques

ROGGE, two IOC Vice Presidents, and several members of the IOC. This was the

first time that such an attendance has been seen at an archery event outside the

Olympic Games. We will move along to Stage 3 and 4 of the World Cup in Ogden

and then Shanghai. The Final will be in Istanbul this year at a very historic location

along the Bosphorus.

We do have more than World Cups, however. Our World Championships will

be held in Turin, Italy, at the beginning of July. World Archery will crown its new

world champions there. Moreover, the 49th Congress will be equally important for

the future development and growth of World Archery. New Officers will be elected,

new Council Members and new Committee Members as well. We will have to

reflect upon our experience with our recent competitions. We will also look at our

growth under our World Archery Five-Year Plan. How have we been doing? Is our

growth and development on track? I again must thank all of you who have partici-

pated in our World Archery Plan. We have depended upon you for ideas, informa-

tion, and experience. It is also of the utmost importance that the participants in

our World Cup events complete the online questionnaire so that we can continue

to receive feeback from our core activities.

I look forward to seeing all of you in the coming Congress. I wish you all suc-

cess, and as always, I thank you for your support of World Archery.

Une fois de plus, je suis heureux de pouvoir vous apporter des informations rcentes

de la part de World Archery. Aprs une magnifique conclusion de la saison 2010

avec la Finale de Coupe du Monde Edimbourg, nous avons continu tirer parti

du succs et de lexprience de nos vnements majeurs.

En ce qui concerne notre Coupe du Monde, lanne 2011 a connu un dbut

trs prometteur. La premire tape de la Coupe du Monde sest droule Porec

o nous avons connu un nombre dinscriptions record avec 363 archers. Ce fut un

excellent dpart pour la saison, tant au niveau de la performance des archers que

de la couverture mdiatique.

Nous venons tout juste de terminer notre deuxime tape de Coupe du Monde

Antalya, qui a connu un norme succs galement. Pour ne pas tre en reste par

rapport Porec, les archers se sont inscrits en nombre Antalya - pour un nouveau

record de participation avec 375 comptiteurs ! Ils ont galement emmen avec eux

plusieurs nouveaux records du monde. Les comptitions ont t superbes, surtout au

vu des conditions de vent et de pluie anormales de cette anne Antalya. Flicitations

nos athltes! De plus, World Archery a t honor daccueillir le Prsident du CIO

Comte Jacques ROGGE, deux Vice-Prsidents du CIO et plusieurs membres du CIO.

Cest la premire fois quune preuve de tir larc reoit une telle assistance en de-

hors des Jeux Olympiques. Nous allons maintenant passer la troisime et quatrime

tape de notre Coupe du Monde Ogden tout dabord puis Shanghai. La Finale se

droulera cette anne Istanbul dans un haut lieu historique au bord du Bosphore.

Cependant, nous avons dautres vnements en plus de nos Coupes du

Monde. Je dois bien sr mentionner nos Championnats du Monde qui se droul-

eront Turin, en Italie, au dbut du mois de juillet. World Archery y couronnera ses

nouveaux champions du monde. Le 49e Congrs, qui se droulera juste avant ces

joutes, est tout aussi important pour le dveloppement et la croissance de World

Archery. De nouveaux Officiels, Membres du Conseil et Membres des Comits y

seront lus. Il faudra que nous rflchissions lexprience emmagasine lors

de nos rcentes comptitions. Nous examinerons galement notre croissance au

cours de notre Plan du Tir lArc Mondial dune dure de cinq ans. Comment nous

en sommes-nous sortis? Notre croissance et notre dveloppement sont-ils sur la

bonne voie? Je dois une nouvelle fois remercier tous ceux qui participent notre

Plan Mondial. Nous dpendons de vous pour vos ides, informations et votre expri-

ence. Il est aussi de la plus grande importance que les participants nos preuves

de Coupe du Monde remplissent le questionnaire en ligne afin que nous continuions

recevoir des informations de premire main.

Je me rjouis de vous rencontrer tous au prochain Congrs. Je vous souhaite

or the sixth time in six editions of the World Cup, the town of Antalya, on the Southern

coast of Turkey, has held a World Cup stage, from 6-12 June 2011. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Count Jacques ROGGE attended the competition in the company of the Vice Presidents Dr Thom-as BACH and Ser Miang NG as well as several other members of the IOC, including the FITA President Prof Dr Ugur ERDENER.

Pour la sixime fois en six ditions, la ville c-tire dAntalya, au sud de la Turquie, a accueilli une tape de Coupe du Monde, du 6 au 12 juin 2011. Le Prsident du Comit International Olympique (CIO) Comte Jacques ROGGE a as-sist aux finales en compagnie des Vice-Prsi-dents Dr Thomas BACH et Ser Miang NG, ainsi que plusieurs autres membres du CIO dont le Prsident de la FITA Prof Dr Ugur ERDENER.

Cette Etape de Coupe du Monde Antalya, signifiant galement la 24e dition du Tournoi International de la Flche dOr, a rjoui les fans et les VIP malgr des conditions mtorologiques difficiles.

Le Prsident du CIO Comte Jacques ROGGE a dit lors des comptitions quil tait trs content de reprsenter le Comit International Olympique cet vnement. This World Cup Stage in Antalya, also known as the 24th edition of the Golden Arrow International Tournament, delighted the fans and the VIPs despite difficult weather conditions for the athletes.

The IOC President Count Jacques ROGGE addressed the audi-ence during the competitions. He was, pleased to give you the greetings of the International Olympic Committee. We have come with a strong delegation to discover your wonderful sport on the nice beach of Antalya. First, I would like to congratulate all of you for making this event a success, especially the public authorities, the Organising Committee, the Turkish Archery Federation and FITA. I also would like to thank the athletes, because they are the stars of an event. I would like to thank the sponsors and I would like to give a special thank to the volunteers, without which the

Le tir larc est un des sports qui ont la plus longue tradition. Cest un sport trs difficile pratiquer mais trs ais com-prendre. Jai aim la disposition du terrain sur la plage dAntalya et je pense que cest un atout considrable pour la promotion du sport.

Chers athltes, nous admirons la manire par laquelle vous vous tes adapts au vent latral si violent et la pluie lors des comptitions. Nous avons t poustoufls par les performances que vous avez accomplies. Je peux vous garantir quil y aura moins de vent au Lords Cricket Ground de Londres, o aura lieu la com-ptition de tir larc des Jeux Olympiques de 2012. Je vous sou-haite le meilleur pour votre prparation et votre qualification pour ces Jeux.

Les finales de la Coupe du Monde Etape 2 ont eu lieu sur la plage dAntalya les 11-12 juin, suivant le mme format de comptition que celui de la premire tape Porec. Voici un rcapitulatif de nos commentaires en direct lors des matchs.

Division ClassiqueLa comptition en arc classique a t plus ouverte que de coutume puisque quatre pays se sont pars dor. La Core a remport deux titres, chez les femmes individuelles grce JUNG Dasomi et par quipe; la Chine sest impose en double mixte; lquipe de France masculine a gagn son premier titre en Coupe du Monde; enfin, lAmricain Brady ELLISON a remport une deuxime victoire daffile aprs sa mdaille dor de Porec.

Archery is one of the sports with the longest tradition. It is very difficult to practice but simple to understand. I like this venue de-sign on the beach of Antalya and I think such design and such competition help for an outstanding promotion of the sport.

Dear athletes, we admire the way you adapted to a very strong side wind and sometimes to heavy rain during the competitions. We are astonished with the performances you have accomplished. I can assure everyone that you will have less wind in the Lords Cricket Ground in London, which will be the archery venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. I wish you the best for your preparation and your qualifications for the Games.

Classique Hommes Individuel Match pour lorBrady ELLISON (USA/4) v OH Jin-Hyek (KOR/2)Ces deux grands archers ne staient jamais affronts en match individuel. Champion du monde par quipe Ulsan en 2009, OH Jin-Hyek stait class 4e en individuel lors de cette comptition. A la Coupe du Monde de Porec en mai, le Coren de 30 ans a gagn lor en double mixte et le bronze par quipe. Pour remporter un premier titre individuel, il allait devoir battre rien de moins que le vainqueur de la Finale de Coupe du Monde en titre Brady ELLISON. En 2010 lAmricain a galement remport le Prix Longines de la Prcision. Cette saison, ELLISON sest illustr la Coupe du Monde de Porec o il a gagn deux mdailles dor, en individuel et par quipe, et largent en quipe mixte.

The finals took place over two days on 11-12 June, on the beautiful beach of Antalya in the same competition format as the Porec World Cup one month earlier. Here is a recap of our live web commentaries during the matches.

Recurve DivisionThe competition was much more open than usual in the recurve division, with gold medals split between four different countries. Korea won two titles, in recurve womens team and individual thanks to JUNG Dasomi; China won the mixed team event; the French mens team won its first World Cup gold medal; finally, the USAs Brady ELLISON won his second World Cup gold medal in a row after his victory in Porec.

Recurve Men Individual Gold Medal MatchBrady ELLISON (USA/4) v OH Jin-Hyek (KOR/2)These two champions had never met in an individual match before. OH Jin-Hyek placed 4th at the 2009 World Champion-ships, where he also won gold with his team. In Porec in May, the 30-year-old Korean won gold in the mixed team event and bronze with his team. In order to win his first individual title in the World Cup, he would have to beat no less than the reigning World Cup Final winner Brady ELLISON. The American was also the winner of the Longines Prize for Precision in 2010. ELLISON started the 2011 World Cup season as well as he finished the year before. At Stage 1 in Porec, he won two gold medals in the mens individual and team events and silver in the mixed team competition.He was hungry for gold after settling for bronze last year in Antalya.

In the key match of the day, Brady ELLISON took the first set easily with X10-10-8, benefiting from a 6 by his opponent. OH had

Classique Femmes Individuel Match pour lorKI Bo Bae (KOR/1) v JUNG Dasomi (KOR/2)Les deux Corennes se retrouvaient aprs stre affrontes dans un duel trs serr Porec en finale pour le bronze. JUNG avait

alors gagn en barrage pour quelques millimtres. Sa coquipire KI Bo Bae est plus exprimente, elle qui a remport les Cham-pionnats du Monde Universitaires en 2008 et sest classe 3e de la Finale de Coupe du Monde 2010.

Alors que le vent soufflait de plus en plus fort sur Antalya, JUNG a gagn le premier set 7-9-10 contre 8-7-7. Elle a eu un peu de chance au set suivant, tirant 10-9-8 dont une premire flche de justesse sur la ligne. KI a tir le mme total (10-8-9), mais a t irrgulire la troisime manche avec 6-7-8. Cela a permis JUNG de gagner le set 27-21 et de mener 5-1. Considrablement gnes par le vent, les deux Corennes ont alors tir chacune une flche hors de la cible. Du jamais vu! KI, lgrement suprieure sur ses deux autres flches, est revenue 3-5. Au cinquime set, elle a tir 7-9-8. JUNG a gal ces scores pour gagner 1 point de set et le match 6-4. Premire mdaille dor individuelle en Coupe du Monde pour la Corenne de 20 ans!

Classique Double Mixte Match pour lorInde (4) v Chine (2)Lquipe indienne compose de Deepika KUMARI et Jayanta TA-LUKDAR, a battu la Core, gagnante des qualifications, pour ar-river dans cette finale pour lor. Quant aux Chinois DAI Xiaoxiang et FANG Yuting, ils se sont qualifis au dtriment de la Mongolie.

Les finales par quipes se sont droules le dimanche, certaines sous une pluie battante. Les archers ont dbut leur match par des flches groupes sur la droite de la cible. Les Indiens ont commen-c par 7-6-8-8, alors que les Chinois ont fait peine mieux, 7-8-6-

Les archers ont encore lev leur niveau la vole suivante, la Chine restant lgrement suprieure lInde. Les deux paires ont fait jeu gal (36 points chacune) dans la dernire vole et la Chine sest impose 136-133.

Classique Hommes Equipe Match pour lorJapon (8) v France (3)Cette finale opposait les mdaills de bronze et dargent des der-niers Championnats du Monde. Ces quipes se sont affrontes en 1/8 de finale de la Coupe du Monde de Shanghai en 2010; le Japon stait impos 221-215. Cependant cest la France qui a gagn leur duel le plus rcent au Grand Prix dAsie en fvrier (222-218).

Les archers ont dbut par des flches trs similaires de part et dautre. Le Japon a rcolt 9-7-10-8-8-10, alors que la France a tir 9-7-10-8-10-9, avec sa troisime flche juste sur la ligne. A la deuxime vole, les archers sont rests dans le jaune lexception dun 7 du ct franais et dun 6 pour le Japon. La France a augment sa marge 108-104. Les Japonais ont bien entam leur troisime vole mais ont rat leurs deux dernires flches (9-9-10-10-7-7). Les Franais nont pas fait mieux avec 10-10-8-8-8-8, mais menaient tout de mme 160-156 avant les six dernires flches. Le Japon a alors tir un total de 55. Les Franais ont russi 9-10-8, puis pour leurs ultimes flches Jean-Charles VALLADONT, Gal PREVOST et Romain GIROUILLE ont rsist la pression et tir 10-10-10! Victoire 217-211 et premire mdaille dor en Coupe du Monde pour le jeune trio franais.

Recurve Mixed Team Gold Medal MatchIndia (4) v China (2)The team from India made up of Deepika KUMARI and Jayanta TA-LUKDAR defeated the winner from qualifications Korea to advance to the gold medal final. As for the Chinese pair DAI Xiaoxiang/FANG Yuting, they qualified over Mongolia.

The team finals took place on Sunday and a few matches like this one were hit by heavy rain. The archers started grouping their arrows on the right side of the target. The pair from India shot 7-6-8-8, while the Chinese archers were slightly superior with 7-8-6-9 and took the lead 30-29. Both teams upped their

a great start in the second set but failed on the last two arrows (X10-7-6). The American answered with 9-7-10. He led 4-0. OH shot 8-7-7 in the third set. ELLISON was consistent at 9-9-9. He won the match in straight sets, 6-0, and another World Cup gold medal this year!

Recurve Women Individual Gold Medal MatchKI Bo Bae (KOR/1) v JUNG Dasomi (KOR/2)These two teammates already met in a very close bronze medal fi-nal in Porec. JUNG, competing in her first international event at 20 years old, won the bronze in the shoot-off by just a few millimetres. Her opponent, the 23-year-old KI Bo Bae, won the University World Championships in 2008 and placed 3rd at the World Cup Final in Edinburgh last year.

In Antalya, as a very strong wind was blowing on Saturday, JUNG took the first set 7-9-10 to 8-7-7. The second set ended in a draw, KI shooting 10-8-9 and JUNG 10-9-8 (JUNGs first arrow being just on the line). JUNG led 3-1. KI was inconsistent in the third set with arrows at 6-7-8. JUNG won the set 27-21. However, she suffered in the fourth, scoring only 0-8-3. Despite also scoring a 0 in her second arrow, KI managed to come back 3-5. Two 0s shot by Korean archers is something that was never seen before. However they were really caught by heavy wind. In the fifth set, KI shot 7-9-8. JUNG matched these arrows to tie. With the score of 6-4, she won her first individual gold medal in an international competition.

shooting in the second end. China scored 34 against Indias 33 to lead by 2 points halfway through, 64-62. Archers kept improv-ing their level, with scores of 36 and 35, respectively. Both pairs shot 36 points in the final end, and China took the match and the gold medal 136-133.

Recurve Men Team Gold Medal MatchJapan (8) v France (3)This gold medal final featured the bronze and silver medallists from the last World Championships. These teams met last September at the Shanghai World Cup, where Japan won their 1/8 elimination match 221-215. However, France won their most recent encounter, the semifinal of the Asian Grand Prix in February 2011, on the score of 222-218.

The match started with very similar scores from both teams. Japan shot 9-7-10-8-8-10, while France had 9-7-10-8-10-9, their third arrow being just on the line. In the second end, all arrows landed in the gold except for one 6 by Japan and one 6 on the French side. France increased their lead to 108-104. The Japanese had a good start to their third end but missed their last two arrows (9-9-10-10-7-7). The French did not do better with 10-10-8-8-8-8. They led 160-156 before the last six arrows. Japan shot a total of 55. France started with 9-10-8. Jean-Charles VALLADONT, Gael PREVOST and Romain GIROUILLE did not seem to feel the pressure on their last three arrows and shot 10-10-10. Victory 217-211 and first World Cup gold medal for the young French trio!

Korea is the reigning world champion and was champion of the last three stages of the World Cup (Ogden and Shanghai 2010, Porec 2011). Team USA was 3rd in Antalya last year.

This gold medal final started under heavy rain, which explains the low scores of the first end: 8-10-9-7-7-7 by Korea and 8-5-8-10-8-9 by the USA. Tie at 48-48. Korea took a very significant lead after the second end, thanks to good shooting and two bad arrows (5 and 6) by the USA. The world champions led 102-94, and gained 2 more points in the third end. The rain became incred-ibly strong as the archers shot their final end. The Americans shot 8-8-7-7-6-8, while Korea finished superbly given the bad condi-tions: 7-7-10-8-10-9. Victory 207-190 and gold medal for HAN Gyeonghee, JUNG Dasomi and KI Bo Bae!

Compound DivisionThe USA repeated their performance from Porec, where they had won four of the five gold medals at stake in the compound divi-sion. Rodger WILLET Jr. won his second World Cup gold in a row; the USA also won gold medals in the mens, womens and mixed teams. Only the womens individual gold medal went to another country, thanks to Irans Parsamehr MAHTAB.

Leur dernire rencontre a eu lieu la Coupe du Monde de Porec en mai. La Core avait battu les USA en 1/8 de finale 219-211. Championne du monde en titre, lquipe de Core a remport les trois dernires Coupes du Monde, Ogden et Shan-ghai en 2010 et Porec en 2011. Quant aux USA, ils taient 3e Antalya lan pass.

They already met last month in Porec in the 1/16 elimination round, which WILLETT won 149-143 on his way to the individual gold medal.

The American displayed talent and great form by starting the match with 10-10-10. His heavy bow might have been an advan-tage in the strong wind. KAZEMPOOR shot 6-10-8 to trail 24-30. The score then moved to 57-50 for the American. The archer from Iran was the best in the third end, with WILLETT shooting an unusu-ally low 9-7-9. KAZEMPOOR reduced the gap to 6 points, 76-82. He recovered 2 more points in the fourth end, outscoring WILLETT 10-10-8 to 8-X10-8. The intermediate score before the last 3 ar-rows was 108-104 for the American. WILLETT concluded the match with 8-X10-8, 2 points better than his opponent. The American won the match and the gold medal 134-128. WILLETT has been domi-nating the start of the World Cup season with two gold medals, just as his compatriot ELLISON did in the recurve division.

Compound Women Individual Gold Medal MatchParsamehr MAHTAB (IRI/5) v Ivana BUDEN (CRO/23)Ivana BUDEN is one of the best archers in the world. Her best result was a bronze medal at the 2009 World Cup Final. The 25-year-old archer from Croatia has already competed in two World Cup gold medal finals, in Santo Domingo 2008 and Porec 2009. She had to settle for silver both times. As for MAHTAB, 22, she won a team sil-ver last year in Antalya. She is on the right track this seasonshe placed 7th at the Porec World Cup.

In their first encounter, MAHTAB took an early lead 8-8-8 to 7-8-7. She increased the gap by shooting X10-9-7 in the second end. With 5-8-7, BUDEN found herself in a very difficult position, trailing 42-50. Compound Mixed Team Gold Medal MatchUSA (1) v Italy (2)Italy could count on the double winner of the World Cup Final (2009 and 2010) Sergio PAGNI. On the US side, Braden GELLEN-THIEN has been one of the best archers of the last few years, and Christie COLIN won the mixed team gold in May in Porec.

In this match, the men started with two 10s each. The scores of the women made the difference: Laura LONGO shot 9-9 and COLIN 8-8. Italy led 38-36. In the second end the men shot per-fect scores again, while COLIN outscored LONGO 9-10 to 9-9. Italy still led by one point, 76-75. The Americans were perfect in the third end with a total of 40. Italy shot 36 to trail 112-115. Shooting first, Italy finished with a perfect 40. The US needed 37 points to win, and did not fail: 10-10-10-10! Gold medal for Christie COLIN and Braden GELLENTHIEN! These teams know each other well as they already met twice for a team gold medal, at the Porec World Cup these last two years. In 2010 the teams tied at 229-229 and the USA won in a shoot-off. This year the USA won more easily, 233-229.

Storm and rain started during this match, but did not affect the archers very much. The Americans took the lead from the start, 58-57. Martin DAMSBO, Torben JOHANNESSEN and Patrick LAURSEN shot more 9s in the second end, allowing the US to increase their advantage (117-114). The weather conditions worsened as the archers entered the second half of the match. Denmark outscored the USA 9-10-10-10-10-9 to 9-10-10-10-9-8 in the third end to recover 2 points (172-173). The Danes concluded with 58 points, with just one second before the time limit. The US matched this score to win the gold medal, 231-230.

Compound Women Team Gold Medal MatchUSA (1) v Iran (3)The US team won a lot of medals at last years World Cup, plac-ing 2nd in Porec and 1st in Ogden and Shanghai. The two teams already met three times. Last year Iran defeated the US in the semifinals (5-4) at the Antalya World Cup. The USA took a double revenge, winning 224-218 at the Shanghai World Cup, and beat-ing Iran 7-1 for the gold medal in September at the World Univer-sity Championships.

The USA started their match with 56 points, but the Iranians shot a little better (57). The Americans recovered the lead thanks to a perfect second end, 10-10-10-10-10-10. Iran shot 9-9-10-

or the fourth time in six years the coastal town of Porec in Croatia hosted the 2011

Archery World Cup debut on 2-7 May. Korea and USA took all five gold medals in recurve. USAs dominance in the compound division was shown once again with four wins out of five events.

Porec has been a host of the Archery World Cup in all years but one (2007) and organised the very first stage, back in 2006. The Archery World Cup com-prises four stages that will allow the top 7 athletes per category to qualify for the Final in Istanbul at the end of September. They will be joined by one wild card from Turkey. The other legs take place in Antalya (TUR) in June, Ogden (USA) in August and Shanghai (CHN) in September. The best mixed teams of the season will also go to Istanbul to chal-lenge the host nation.

Recurve DivisionSaturday afternoon, 7 May 2011 brought World Cup Stage 1 in Porec to an end. It featured all finals in the recurve division with

ELLISON a pris un dpart idal avec deux 10. Malgr un 8 sa troisime flche, il est parvenu remporter les deux premiers points de set pour mener 2-0. Les deux archers ont tir de su-perbe faon dans le deuxime set avec 29 points chacun. LAm-ricain a ainsi gard la tte 3-1. Le champion de la Coupe du Monde en titre semblait trs dcid commencer cette nouvelle saison comme il lavait termine, sur une victoire! Il est parvenu marquer un troisime set parfait pour porter son avance 5-1.

The reigning World Cup Final winner Brady ELLISON led the American team, winning the mens individual and team events and taking silver in the mixed team competition. The Korean HAN Gyeonghee clinched the womens individual and team gold medals, while her fellow countrymen JUNG Dasomi and OH Jin Hyek won the mixed event.

Recurve Men Individual Gold Medal MatchKIM Woojin (KOR/5) v Brady ELLISON (USA/6)18-year-old KIM already has international experience. In 2010 he finished 1st at the Asian Games in Guangzhou and 5th at the World Cup Final in Edinburgh. ELLISON, 22 years old, holds none the less than the World Cup Final, Longines Prize for Precision and Porec titles.

ELLISON had a perfect opening with two 10s. Despite an 8 at his third arrow, he managed to get the first two set points to lead 2-0. The two archers showed great shooting skills in the second set with 29 points each. The American kept the lead at 3-1. The reigning World Cup champion seemed to be eager to start the new season as he finished it! He shot a perfect third set to increase his advantage to 5-1, only one set point away from victory. But KIM tried hard to stay in the match opening the fourth set with two 10s. Unfortunately for the Korean, he then finished the end with an 8, giving an opportunity to his opponent to clinch the match. With a final 9, ELLISON tied the set and took one set point to add another gold medal to his record.

Six years older, her opponent from Italy was 2nd in Porec in 2009 and 3rd in 2006 and hoped for gold this time.

Despite an opening 10, LIONETTI continued with an 8 and a 7 in the first set. With 29 points in the initial set, her opponent from Korea took the lead at 2-0. As she scored another 7 in the second set, the Italian saw HAN increase her lead to 4-0. It took a 29-point series for LIONETTI to remain in the match as the Korean also had two 10s and a 9 in the third set. Each took one set point for a score of 5-1 in favour of HAN. in the fourth set, LIONETTI desperately needed a 10 to keep her hopes alive but with a 9 she left the opportunity to her contender to win the match. With a final 10 right in the middle of the target HAN clinched gold (7-1)!

Recurve Men Team Gold Medal MatchIndia (5) v USA (3)Since 2005 India and the USA have faced each other nine times. The only win by the Americans was at the World University Cham-pionships last year when the match was specially shot in the set system format. Back to the regular cumulative scoring for teams; will the Indians have the advantage of this format again?

The teams started the match with 56 points each for a tie after six arrows. The Indians TALUKDAR, RAI and BANERJEE continued with even greater shooting with four 10s and two 9s. The American KAMINSKI scored a 7 on his teams 10th arrow. His teammate EL-LISON, the reigning World Cup champion, kept the USA in the race with two 10s in this end. The Americans trailed by three at 111-114 at the half-way mark. KAMINSKI, FANCHIN and ELLISON took advantage of two 8s by their opponents to open the third series to recover two points and to get very close at 167-168. However the Indians suddenly lost focus and with three 8s in the final end, they saw Team USA get ahead of them to win gold 221-219.

Classique Hommes Equipe Match pour lorInde (5) v USA (3)Depuis 2005, lInde et les USA se sont affronts neuf fois. La seule victoire des Amricains a t acquise aux Championnats du Monde Universitaires lanne dernire dans un match qui sest droul selon le format de sets. Le retour au format daddition des points pour les quipes allait-il profiter une nouvelle fois aux Indiens?

Les deux quipes ont dbut le match avec 56 points pour se retrouver galit aprs six flches. Les Indiens TALUKDAR, RAI et BANERJEE ont poursuivi en tirant encore mieux avec quatre 10 et deux 9. LAmricain a fait un 7 la 10e flche de son quipe. Son coquipier ELLISON, gagnant de la Coupe du Monde en titre, a permis son quipe de rester dans la course avec deux 10 dans cette vole. Les Amricains taient mens de trois points, 111-114, mi-parcours. KAMINSKI, FANCHIN et ELLISON ont tir profit de deux 8 de leurs adversaires lentame de la troisime vole pour reprendre deux points et revenir dans le match 167-168. Classique Femmes Equipe Match pour lorCore (1) v Russie (3)La Core et la Russie se sont rencontres cinq fois entre 2006 et 2009 avec chaque fois une victoire des Corennes. Les deux quipes ne se sont pas affrontes lanne dernire. Voyons si la Russie peut faire mieux cette fois!

Avec trois 8 dans la premire vole BOMBOEVA, ERDYNIYEVA et STEPANOVA nont pas pris un trs bon dpart. Elles restaient quand mme dans le match grce un 7 de la Corenne KI den-tre de jeu pour son quipe. La Russie tait mene dun point aprs six flches (53-54). Avec trois 10 dans la deuxime vole, KI, JUNG et HAN ont creus encore un peu lcart 110-104, leurs adversaires ayant tir un autre 7 et un 8 dans cette srie. Les Russes semblaient avoir perdu confiance et mme si HAN a fait un 6 (tellement rare dans le cas des Corennes quil est intressant de le noter!) la 18e flche de son quipe, la Core a augment son avance 162-154. Les jeunes Corennes ont termin en levant mme leur niveau de tir avec quatre 10 et deux 9 dans la dernire vole pour remporter une victoire aise par 220-207.

Classique Double Mixte Match pour lorCore (1) v USA (6)JUNG Dasomi est nouvelle venue en comptition internationale, mais elle a en fait gagn les qualifications en tirant un Robin Hood, sil vous plat! Pour cette finale, Elle pouvait compter sur lexprience de son partenaire. OH Jin Hyek est en effet champion du monde en titre par quipe et a gagn les Jeux Asiatiques en novembre 2010 avec lquipe corenne masculine. Ils affrontaient une paire amricaine exprimente compose du dtenteur de la Coupe du Monde et no 2 mondial Brady ELLISON et de Khatuna

LORIG scored an 8 at her teams sixth arrow, the situation was reversed with Korea leading 55-54 after eight arrows but the ex-perienced American lady reached the half-way mark with a 10 to tie up the match at 73-73. In the third end, Koreas OH and JUNG scored another 37-point end to reach 110 points. With another 8 by LORIG at the end of this end, Team USA trailed by one with a 109 total. Proving the most consistent team on the field Korea finally clinched victory with a strong last end of 38 points and a final score of 148-146.

With three 8s in the first end BOMBOEVA, ERDYNIYEVA and STEPANOVA did not have the best possible start but they remained in the match thanks to the Korean KI who opened the match for her team with a 7. Russia trailed by one point after six arrows (53-54). With three 10s in the second end, KI, JUNG and HAN opened the gap to 110-104 with their opponents scoring another 7 and an 8 in this series. Russia seemed not to believe in their chances any longer and though HAN scored a 6 (so rare for a Korean that it is noteworthy!) at her teams 18th arrow, Korea extended their lead to 162-154. The young Asian ladies continued on a high pace with four 10s and two 9s in the last end to clinch a comfortable win 220-207.

Recurve Mixed Team Gold Medal MatchKorea (1) v USA (6)JUNG Dasomi is a newcomer to international level, but she actually finished first in qualifications and shot a Robin Hood! For this fi-nal, she could rely on her teammates experience as OH Jin Hyek is the reigning team world champion and winner of the Asian Games in November. They faced an experienced American pair with reign-ing World Cup winner and No. 2 in the world Brady ELLISON and 4-time Olympian Khatuna LORIG who just won the Arizona Cup last month.

ELLISON was back on the field after winning the team gold with his male teammates in the previous match. Paired with LORIG in the mixed event, they took the lead after four arrows 37-36. As

Compound DivisionThe morning session on Saturday 7 May in downtown Porec was devoted to the Finals in the compound division at the first World Cup stage of the year. Compound matches were all shot at 50 metres. USAs dominance in the compound division was shown once again with four wins out of five events. In individual Rodger WILLET Jr. and Erika ANSCHUTZ clinched gold shooting close to perfection. USA also won the competition in mens team and mixed team. Only the womens team event was taken by another country, France.

Compound Men Individual Gold Medal MatchRodger WILLET Jr. (USA/16) v Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA/11)WILLET and JIMENEZ met last year in a quarterfinal at World Cup Stage 2 in Antalya with a win 5-1 by the American. WIL-LET has proved to be in great shape lately with a victory at the Arizona Cup in April and a 2nd place at the Pan-American Games Qualifier in Santo Domingo in March. JIMENEZ won the World Cup Final in Dubai back in 2007 and finished 5th in Edinburgh last year.

An amazing opening of the match for WILLET, the most con-sistent archer of the week here in Porec, leading the Longines Prize for Precision: X10-10-X10! This gave him a 1-point lead over JIMENEZ after the first end (30-29). The American main-tained the fantastic pace with another 30-point second end to increase the lead to 60-58. Same 3-arrow series for each ar-cher and same story: WILLET added another perfect end and another point to his advantage to lead 90-87. On the way to a possible world record (for that he needed to remain perfect up to the end of the match), the American lost a bit of focus with two 9s in the fourth end, but held the lead at 118-116. He regained his self-control to release perfect arrows again to win gold 148-144. Though shooting only 9s and 10s, his opponent JIMENEZ could only take his hat off to the man of the week in this category.

Compound Women Individual Gold Medal MatchErika ANSCHUTZ (USA/4) v Viktoria BALZHANOVA (RUS/39)ANSCHUTZ and BALZHANOVA, both 22 years old, met in the semifinals at the 2009 Universiade in Belgrade with a win for the reigning European champion from Russia, but her opponent is now ranked 2nd in the world and finished 3rd at the World Cup Final 2010 in Edinburgh.

The advantage went to Americas ANSCHUTZ in the first end with 29 points versus 28 for her opponent from Russia. The match was close and the lead remained with the American by one point at 58-57 at the half-way mark. With two 10s to close the third end BALZHANOVA tied up the match at 85-85. Feeling danger coming, ANSCHUTZ put pressure with two 10s and a 9. She recovered the lead 114-113. BALZHANOVA has a bit less experience than her opponent and it showed during the match and even more at the end. Though still in the match before the last arrow, she closed it with an 8, which gave ANSCHUTZ the opportunity for a 10 leading to the win (143-141).

Les matchs se sont drouls 50 mtres en plein centre-ville. La domination amricaine a une nouvelle fois t frappante avec quatre mdailles dor en cinq preuves. En individuel, Rodger WILLET Jr. et Erika ANSCHUTZ ont remport la victoire en tirant prs de la perfection. Les USA ont gale-ment gagn lor par quipe chez les hommes et en double mixte. Seule la comptition fminine par quipe a souri une autre nation, la France.

Cela lui a donn un point davance sur JIMENEZ aprs la premire vole (30-29). LAmricain est parvenu maintenir le mme rythme avec une autre vole parfaite de 30 points pour porter son avantage 60-58. Mme srie de trois flches pour chacun des deux ar-chers et mme rsultat: WILLET a russi une autre vole parfaite et ajout un point de plus son avantage pour mener 90-87. En route vers un record du monde possible (pour cela, ses tirs devaient rester parfaits jusqu la fin du match), lAmricain a probablement t quelque peu dconcentr et a tir deux 9 la quatrime vole. Il a quand mme gard la tte, 118-116. Il sest ensuite ressaisi pour russir de nouveau trois flches par-faites et remporter lor 148-144. Bien quil ne soit pas sorti du jaune (10 et 9) dans ce match, JIMENEZ a d savouer vaincu devant lhomme en forme du moment.

Compound Men Team Gold Medal MatchUSA (1) v Denmark (3)Same gold final as last year between USA and Denmark! At the time USA came out the winner 30-28 in a shoot-off after the teams were tied at 229-229.

Most of the shooters started with arrows on the left side of the target. After three perfect arrows to open the match LAURSEN, JOHANNESSEN and DAMBSO seemed to realise they were ahead of the powerful Team USA and they started to get nervous. The Danes then scored 9-8-9 to trail by two points (56-58). Both teams seemed to have calmed down and started shooting as they are used to doing. Each scored a fantastic third end with 59 points, and GELLENTHIEN, WILLET and WILDE kept the lead at 117-115. Team USA stayed in control of the match as the two teams added 57 points to their total (174-172). Five 10s in the last end for the Americans to answer to four 10s by their opponents and clinch gold once more in Porec (233-230)!

Compound Women Team Gold Medal MatchSweden (9) v France (3)Sweden and France met once in the past in quarterfinals at the World Championships 2009 in Ulsan where the Swedes were the winners. DANIELSSON, JOHANSSON and SJOWALL shot for Swe-den. The latter was 2001 target world champion and then shot field archery for a few years. She is making her comeback in target archery this year. CHESSE, LEBECQUE and TCHEPIKOFF were the French representatives in this match.

Sweden trailed by six points (51-57) after the first end with everything going wrong on their last arrow. It was a 5 with only two seconds left on the clock. The Swedes looked a little tense

Mais son adversaire du jour est aujourdhui classe no 2 mondiale et a termin 3e de la Finale de Coupe du Monde 2010 Edimbourg.

Les archers ont tous commenc avec des flches lgrement sur la gauche. Aprs trois premires flches parfaites, LAURSEN, JOHANNESSEN et DAMBSO ont peut-tre ralis quils taient de-vant les puissants Amricains et ont commenc ressentir de la nervosit. Les Danois ont poursuivi la vole avec seulement 9-8-9 pour se retrouver mens de deux points (56-58). Les deux quipes semblaient avoir retrouv leur calme et ont commenc tirer comme leur habitude. Elles ont chacune russi une troisime vole fantastique de 59 points, et GELLENTHIEN, WILLET et WILDE ont gard leur avantage 117-115. Puis les deux quipes ont ajout chacune 57 points leur total; les Amricains gardaient donc le contrle du match (174-172). Cinq 10 dans la dernire vole pour les Amricains pour rpondre quatre 10 de leurs adversaires et remporter lor une nouvelle fois Porec (233-230)!

Ctait en quart de finale des Championnats du Monde 2009 Ulsan, et ce sont les Sudoises qui lavaient emport. Lquipe de Sude est compose de DANIELSSON, JOHANSSON et SJO-WALL. Cette dernire avait t championne du monde (sur cibles) en 2001 avant de tirer plusieurs annes en campagne. Elle est de retour sur cibles cette anne. CHESSE, LEBECQUE et TCHEPIKOFF reprsentaient la France dans ce match.

La Sude sest retrouve mene de six points (51-57) aprs la premire vole car tout est all de travers sur la dernire flche: un 5 alors quil ne restait plus que deux secondes pour tirer. Bien quun peu nerveuses, les Sudoises ont russi reprendre deux points, bnficiant dun 8 de leurs adversaires (107-111). Lcart sest encore resserr aprs que la troisime tireuse franaise CHESSE a

Compound Mixed Team Gold Medal MatchUSA (1) v Slovenia (10)The top seeded mixed team, with Christie COLLIN/Reo WILDE, faced Slovenias Toja CERNE/Slavko TURSIC. The Slovenians de-feated the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded teams, Belgium and France, on their way to the gold final.

Back on the field just after shooting in the men teams gold medal match, WILDE scored two 10s in the first end. With his teammate shooting 9-10, the Americans took a 1-point lead (39-38). The young lady from Slovenia CERNE seemed really nervous scoring an 8 in the second end. Her teammate TURSIC also closed the second end with an 8. With WILDE releasing only perfect ar-rows up to the half-way point, the Americans doubled their advan-tage at 77-73. The Slovenians regained their self-control in the third end. The two teams scored three 10s and a 9 and the gap remained at 116-112. WILDE certainly had a big advantage being on the field before for another match. He proved once again his great skills shooting only 10s in this match to offer victory to Team USA by 155-150.

Les Amricains ont pris un point davance (39-38). La jeune Slovne CERNE sem-blait trs nerveuse et a fait un 8 dans la deuxime vole. Son co-quipier TURSIC a galement termin cette vole par un 8. Grce WILDE qui na tir que des flches parfaites jusqu la mi-match, les Amricains ont doubl leur avantage 77-73. Les Slovnes se sont ressaisis dans la troisime vole. Les deux quipes ont mar-qu trois 10 et un 9 chacune, et lcart sest maintenu 116-112. WILDE a certainement t avantag du fait davoir tir un autre match sur ce terrain juste avant. Mais cela nenlve rien ses qualits exceptionnelles, lui qui na fait que des 10 dans ce double mixte pour offrir lor son quipe, 155-150.

among the 16 teams that will shoot in the first round matches. A range of 25 teams can really contend to be in the top 16 after the qualifications.

As a recap; the top 8 teams in Turin will earn three spots (one for each team member) of the Games in London. If they participate in Turin, Great Britain will also earn one team spot automatically. This means that if Great Britain is in the top 8, the 9th team in the competition will also qualify. Moreover the top 8 individuals (from other countries than the qualified teams) will also earn one berth. This makes 35 places. However they are non-nominative, they belong to the country. There will be subsequent qualifiers until the Olympic Games to reach 64 athletes per gender. Final note, only the athletes from the recurve division can participate in the Olympic Games.

Lets now have a look at some of the individual favourites for the medals in Turin, at the teams that will fight for an Olympic qualifications (or team medals at the world championships) and at some Youth Olympians from Singapore who may compete in London.

Recurve MenIndividual favourites: The 2010 World Cup defender and winner of the 2011 Stage 1 in Porec Brady ELLISON (USA) is certainly hungry for more victories like Rafael NADAL still is on a tennis clay-court! Most of his main opponents were already at the Final in Istanbul: the Roger FEDERER of archery IM Dong-Hyun (KOR), his teammate KIM Woojin, Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND), the 2004 Olympic champion Marco GALIAZZO (ITA) and Simon TERRY (GBR). KIM took the place in the team of no less than defend-ing world champion LEE Chang-Hawn! Lets not forget the 2008

2011 ce sera encore plus difficile. Le premier vrai challenge sera de se qualifier parmi les 16 quipes qui tireront les matches du premier tour; prs de 25quipes peuvent lgitimement prtendre au top 16 lors des qualifications.

Pour rappel, les huit meilleures quipes des Championnats du Monde de Turin seront directement qualifies pour les Jeux Olympiques et bnficieront ainsi de trois places (une pour chaque membre de lquipe). Par ailleurs, en salignant Turin, la Grande-Bretagne recevra automatiquement une place pour son quipe. Cela signifie que si ce pays finit dans le top 8, la 9e quipe se qua-lifiera galement. Enfin, les huit meilleurs individuels issus de pays non qualifis par quipe gagneront aussi une place. Cela fait 35 places alloues. Signalons que celles-ci ne sont pas nominatives: elles appartiennent aux pays. Certes, il y aura des repchages par la suite pour atteindre 64 places, mais les quipes ont tout intrt se qualifier Turin. A noter que seuls les archers en arc classique peuvent participer aux Jeux Olympiques.

Portons maintenant notre attention sur les favoris individuels Turin, aux quipes qui se battront pour les places olympiques (ou des mdailles mondiales) et quelques-uns des participants des Jeux Olympiques de la Jeunesse de Singapour qui peuvent rver de Londres.

Des pays comme lItalie, lInde, la Colombie, la Grande-Bretagne, la Gorgie, le Ja-pon, le Chinese Taipei, la Pologne, lUkraine et les USA sont dans la course, et dautres peuvent encore merger comme le Danemark,

Teams: Korea is still the powerhouse despite adding two young newcomers, HAN Gyeonghee and JUNG Dasomi, who took the place of no less than the current world champion JOO Hyung-Jung and the lady with the most wins in the World Cup YUN Ok-Hee, to the team. Their main opponents have been China and Russia during the last four years and since the Russian team is still very young, it could turn into a very serious threat. Countries like Italy, India, Colombia, Great Britain, Georgia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Poland, Ukraine and the USA are definitely in the mix, while others like Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Myanmar, Mongolia, Belarus, Spain, Switzerland, Korea DPR, Turkey and Mexico should not be counted out either.

Classique Double MixtePour la premire fois de lhistoire, un titre mondial en classique double mixte sera attribu Turin. Les paires mixtes concourent en Coupe du Monde depuis deux ans et les pays qui dominent sont la Core, les USA, la Chine, lInde, la France et lUkraine.

Poulies HommesFavoris individuels: on pourrait les appeler les sept magnifiques. Emmens par le champion du monde individuel et par quipe Reo WILDE (USA), son coquipier Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), le double vainqueur en finale de Coupe du Monde Sergio PAGNI (ITA), Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA), Peter ELZINGA (NED), Martin DAMSBO (DEN) et Mor-gan LUNDIN (SWE) ont pratiquement tout gagn ces dernires annes.
