The mujahideen then proceeded to set up their own government with Burhanuddin Rabbani as interim president.This government soon fell apart and Afghanistan was reduced to a collection of territories held by competing warlords History of the Taliban1979- Soviet army invades Afghanistan and sets up communist government 1985- The mujahideen comes together and forms an alliance against Pakistan1986- US begins supplying mujahideen with weapons1989- Soviet forces leave Afghanistan1992- Mujahideen overthrows Soviet backed government in Afghanistan1996- Taliban seizes Kabul2001- Us led bombings of Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks2011- Ex-president Burhanuddin Rabbani is assassinated

When did the Taliban manage to takeover Afghanistan?In 1992, after the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, the mujahideen was able to overthrow the Soviet-backed government that was in control of Afghanistan

Also, in 1996 the Taliban, under the leadership of Mullah Muhammad Omar, seize control of Kabul.

How did the Taliban manage to takeover Afghanistan?The Taliban managed to takeover Afghanistan with a few events that transpired. The first being when the mujahideen overthrew the Soviet-backed government that was in control of Afghanistan after the Soviet invasionThe other reason being when the Taliban was able to seize control of Kabul. By seizing control of Kabul, Afghanistans capital city, the Taliban was able to take of Afghanistans most important city therefore making it much easier for them to gain further control of the government and complete control over AfghanistanKabul

Effects of Taliban rule in AfghanistanTaliban rule in Afghanistan has had very negative effects on the country of Afghanistan and its people.
