Dear Student,

Welcome to IMT Atlantique – A new Elite Graduate Engineering School in France, results from the merging between Mines-Nantes and Télécom-Bretagne. This new Graduate School is a full member of IMT (Institute Mines Télécom). It enlarges its scope to encompass Information and Communication Technologies, Energy and Environment.

IMT Atlantique is under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, representing the elite of the higher education system in France. Graduates from the Graduate Engineering Schools are responsible for technological achievements that have made France one of the major industrial countries of the world.

IMT Atlantique has a small intake with a highly selective admission procedure. Close links have been established with industries. Such cooperation involves the participation of industrialists in teaching, in projects, in internships: which are required for all the students.

You will be trained for tomorrow and beyond, immediately operational, but also able to continue developing, innovate and to extend your areas of responsibility. We offer, in addition to scientific and technical courses, a strong emphasis on management skills and our alumni will be executives ready to face sustainable development and corporate social responsibilities.

We are an institution open to the world, with 100 partners across all five continents; we run exchanges for students, research students and lecturers, and you will live and study in an international campus.

Our teaching and learning style will encourage you to take up research; we have dynamic research facilities, highly regarded in their fields. We have extensive human and material resources, our original teaching and learning structure is actively reviewed and enriched by the results.

The IMT Atlantique research activities will place it as one of the 10 leading French Elite Graduate Engineering Schools. IMT Atlantique offers a full range of expertise in Environmental, Energy Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies and Industrial Engineering.

It is our sincere hope that the contents of this catalogue will inspire you to take up the challenge of following one of our international MSc programs. My conviction is that, in IMT Atlantique, you’ll build an international social network for all your life, and you’ll have an excellent foundation for a successful career as a project manager in your field.

If you are a non-European student, you need to apply for a visa to study in France. There are 3 types of visa for students coming to IMT Atlantique :

1 a long stay visa (VLS-TS) – the most common one. It allows you to stay on the French territory during one year and

to travel in the Schengen Area without any additional visa.

2 a long stay studies visa, called visa D in some countries (E.G: Algeria, Australia)

3 Visa “étudiant concours”: if you are a student in preparatory classes of “Grandes Ecoles”. BEFORE DEPARTURE : Please register at Campusfrance in your country several months before leaving your country in order to apply for student visa. Campusfrance will provide you with information about Higher Education in France and will be the starting point for the visa process. For those who have no Campusfrance office in their country, please contact directly the local French Embassy or Consulate. IMT Atlantique will also contact the relevant Campusfrance office/Embassy in your country to confirm admission into one of our programs.

STUDENT VISA APPLICATION

12

Here is a recap of what you need to prepare for the student visa

application :

• A valid passport (with a date of validity covering at least 1 year of your stay)

• Passport photos • Administrative fees• Proof of resources enabling you to live in

France for the stated period • Admission letter from IMT Atlantique• Accommodation certificate … And possible additional documents,

depending on your country of origin. Extension of your stay in France After your studies at IMT Atlantique, you can apply for a temporary residence permit, called “APS” (in French : Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour). This permit allows you to stay 1 extra year in France in order to find a job. You have to apply for APS at least 4 months before your residence permit expires, at the “Prefecture” of the city you live. Once employment has been found, the permit becomes a full-time work permit, as long as the type of employment and the salary correspond to the degree obtained.

UPON ARRIVAL : You will have to follow administrative formalities within the 3 months after your arrival in order to validate your visa. Our International Offices will assist you with this administrative process.

We also recommend you to register at your Embassy/Consulate in France with your new address in France and to keep copies of all your official documents (passport, visa, etc).

COMING TO IMT ATLANTIQUE CAMPUSES :

BY PLANE

If you come from outside Europe, you will probably have to transit through Paris. There are 2 main airports in Paris : Paris-Orly (south of Paris) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle (North-East part of Paris). You can arrive either to one or the other and then take a domestic flight to the city nearby the campus you are registered in.

Don’t forget to check the luggageweight allowed by the airlines

BY TRAIN

• From Paris CDG AirportThere is a train station just under Paris CDG airport. After landing, you can also complete the journey to your campus by train. From the airport, you just have to follow the direction “TGV” (high speed train). There are many high-speed trains (TGV) each day from Paris to Brest, Nantes and Rennes.

• From Orly Airport If you have landed at Orly airport and need to take the train, you should go to the train station located in the city center of Paris “Montparnasse”.

- You can use the Orlybus shuttle service or the Orlyval automatic metro to reach « Denfert-Rochereau » subway station and then take Line 6 to «Montparnasse-Bienvenue » station.

- Taxi : it takes 35-45 minutes and costs about 40€.

• From Paris city centerIf you plan to spend a few days in Paris before going to IMT Atlantique campuses, you can take the train from Paris Montparnasse train station, it is located in the heart of Paris. You can access this train station from anywhere in the city by metro/subway.

HEALTH INSURANCE

14

If your are an EEA Student (from the European Economic Area)28 EU countries + Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland

Please, be aware that medical expenses can be very expensive abroad, so you need to ensure that you have a correct medical cover during the whole length of your stay in France. You might need to contract a private health insurance in your country before coming to France, depending on your situation.

1/ FRENCH HEALTHCARE INSURANCE (IN FRENCH : “SÉCURITÉ SOCIALE”)

You need to have an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) with you. This card, provided by the country of origin, gives access to reimbursements for medical expenses in France at the same rate of French people. The EHIC validity date must cover your length-of-stay in France. You will get the reimbursements at the «CPAM» (Public Healthcare Center) of the city you live in France.

If you are a Non-EEA StudentIt is compulsory to subscribe to the French Student Healthcare insurance in France (even if you have already subscribed to an insurance in your country) each year from Sept. 01st to August 31st. Price: around 215 euros/year (on arrival) - free of charge if you have a French Government scholarship.

If your arrive to France before Sept. 01st, you need to subscribe to a private Healthcare insurance until August 31st, either from your country or in France on arrival.

- If your were already enrolled in the French Student Healthcare system before the age of 28, you are allowed to an extension of this entitlement up to 4 years. Ask us for more information!

- If not, you will be eligible for the French General Healthcare insurance after 3 months spent in France :

For the first 3 months, you must subscribe to a private insurance in your country or upon arrival to France (about 57 euros/month).

2/ ADDITIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE (IN FRENCH : ”COMPLÉMENTAIRE SANTÉ” OR ”MUTUELLE”)The public health insurance system covers approximately 70% of your medical expenses. For a higher reimbursement rate, it is highly recommended that you sign up for an additional medical insurance called “complémentaire santé” (around 17€/month).

You can register to the “CPAM” (Public Healthcare Center) of the city you live after 3 months spent in France to get the French Healthcare insurance. The insurance fee or freeness will depend on your financial resources.

A minimum guarantee is not always the best policy. A good insurance should provide reimbursement of health care costs, protection insurance (accidental

death, third party) and repatriation/assistance on medical grounds.

MAP OF BREST CAMPUS

Located in the Brest-Iroise Technopôle (a Science and Technology Park), BREST CAMPUS is on the outskirts of Brest, less than 30 minutes by bus and tramway, from the city centre, in the commune of Plouzané (a town with 13,000 inhabitants, belonging to the Brest conurbation, “Brest Métropôle”).

Created in 1990, the Brest-Iroise Science and Technology Park gathers more than 5,000 people including 2,000 students and 1,000 research-lecturers in higher education institutions and research centres and over 2,500 people working in different companies.

It is also a dynamic partner in the economic development of Brittany. It develops links between companies, research and teaching partners in the Brest area and the whole Brittany.

In addition to this economic and scientific context, BREST CAMPUS is located in an exceptional natural setting near the ocean, on the site called the Pointe du Diable (“Devil’s Point”) with a direct access to Le Dellec Beach. Few university campuses can boast such a beautiful site.
