President’s Report
BY GARY HIGGINBOTHAM, PRESIDENT
As my second term as President comes to an end I would like to
thank all of the members of the Board of Directors that served with
me. I was truly impressed with the group and believe all decisions
made were for the good of the club as a whole. Together we man-
aged to overcome many obstacles over the last two years. This
group of volunteers, several working full-time, put in many hours
discussing, planning, and implementing projects. Some of these
projects include the Members Pistol Range, the rebuilding of the Piel
Range, improvements to the foyer and kitchen, and more.
I need to include our paid employee’s in my thanks. Debbie and
Angie in the office helped me immensely at the beginning of my
term. I had to be brought up to speed on the financial end of the
operation. Any time I asked for assistance (and times when I didn’t)
they were there to help. They continue to be an asset today and I
am sure they will be there for the next President.
Our Range Safety Officers do a difficult job and work hard to keep
all the ranges safe. Our safety record on the ranges is proof of their
efforts.
Michael Rohr is our caretaker. I need to include him in my thanks.
The hall and grounds consistently look great.
All of the volunteers that help to improve and maintain the facilities
need to be recognized. Many of these volunteers are also involved
as instructors, RSO’s, and mentors. Thank you for your dedication to
the club.
I thank you for the opportunity to serve and look forward to working
as Past President.

Piel Range Fun Shoots
There have been a number of inquiries about the Piel
Range opening again for a place to bring the family for
a fun time of shooting. We at the Sportsmen’s Club
have been listening.
The Piel Range is going to be open on January 20th and
February 17th for a .22 rimfire shoot. The hours are 9am
to 1pm and there are 10 stations. We are hoping this will
be a great family event. Bring the children out to shoot
and not have to compete with the noise of the big bore
rifles, especially for those just starting out.
There are plans to open more days in the coming
months with other activities planned. We will need your
support to make this a year-round activity.
For questions: call Curt Southworth at 253-468-7545 or
the office at 253-537-6151
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
BY RICHARD FRIEL, PAST PRESIDENT
I would like to thank Gary Higginbotham for covering me on the last program of the year.
I hope you all have enjoyed the programs this year as much as I did arranging them.
I would like to thank the membership for the honor of letting me be the past president.
Tacoma Sportsmen’s Club has been a big part of my life over the past 20 plus years.
I'm not going anywhere but it's time to let the younger leaders come forward and
continue the traditions of TSC into the future.

NOMINANEE BIOGRAPHIES FOR 2018
President Glenn Rodrick, Mbr# 2255
Thank you for considering me for the presidency of the Tacoma
Sportsmen’s Club. I have been a member since 1996. Along with
my family, we have enjoyed many years of coming to and chair-
ing events here at TSC. I look forward to continuing the process of
the club moving forward in the coming year. Thank you.

1st Vice President Mark Bussey Mbr# 2759
I am running for first Vice President. I am currently on the board of
directors as a trustee. I am an avid hunter and enjoy making sure
the club is a safe and friendly place for hunters and shooters of all
kinds. I have been a member for over 10 years, though I have been
coming out to the club for many years. The club is very important to
me and I will continue to do what I can to keep our club great.
Thank you.
5
Trustee Matt Gjerstad, Mbr# 2923
I have been a member since September 2014. In my
short time as a member I have helped build part of the
member pistol range, my wife and I have volunteered
with stuffing Easter eggs and the Easter egg hunt the last
couple years, and we rented the facility for our wedding
in 2015. I truly enjoy being a member and look forward
to doing more with the club and helping it grow. Thank
you.
2nd Vice President Rick Yorkk, Mbr # 1872
I have been a member of The Tacoma Sportsman’s Club for 5 short years but
have been shooting at the Club for well over 25 years. Growing up in northern
Michigan, my passion for firearms, both hunting and target shooting, began at
a very young age. Today, memories of my first Daisy BB gun to my first Mar-
lin .22LR (which I still own), having school days off for hunting season and the
yearly hunting trips my family would take still hold strong in my heart. It was
these very experiences that created my passion and respect for firearms to-
day. When I was 14, my family moved to Puyallup, Washington. Now, 40 years
later, I am a proud hunter, Range Safety Office Officer and an FFL Dealer. In
addition to hunting and recreational shooting, I enjoy spending time with my
family and friends. A full-time specialty electrical contracting Project Manager
by day, a family man by night and a proud Board Member of this Club. I have
also earned the position as a Lifetime Director of a local builder’s organiza-
tion. My 15+ years of Board Experience will continue to bring fresh ideas while
respecting the heritage and traditions of the Club founders and the Leaders
before me. I am extremely excited to serve another term as 2nd Vice Presi-
dent. My goals are to continue to build a strong membership with a focus on
more active volunteers and a higher renewal rate. Thank you.
Trustee Ron Austin Mbr# 433
I am running for a Trustee position on the Board of Directors. I have
been a club member since 2003.
I have worked the Kid’s Fishing Derby, Sporting Clays and the NRA
Youth SportsFest for about 10 years, as well as Beginning Trap & Skeet
classes, Cabela’s Days and the Kid’s Easter Egg Hunt. My long-range
goals for the club are to be sure it has a future so my grandkids will be
able to use it. Thank you.
Trustee Greg Willis, Mbr#1867
I'm 65, retired from Boeing and an avid shotgun shooter as well as water-
fowl and sporting clays averaging 4,500 registered targets a year. I'm also
a Viet Nam Era veteran and a protected class. I also like to fish in the local
lakes, and if time permits some salmon fishing. Big game hunting has been
a hit and a miss for the past ten years due to the passing of my hunting
partners. I currently volunteer for the Tacoma and Gig Harbor DU commit-
tees, and have been the Major Donor and Feather Society Chairman for
the State and served on the DU National Shooting Committee. Currently
I'm also volunteering my time setting the sporting clays course at Evergreen
Sportsman, after their setter passed away. I would like to be on the board
to give a new perspective and in the future, I would like to expand the
Sporting Clays to bring in more funds for the club. Thank you.
6
Trustee, Curt Southworth Mbr# 451
I have previously served on the Board of Directors for four years so I have
a pretty good idea of how it works. One of the greatest things I ever did
was to become a member 15 years ago. I would like the chance to give
something back to the membership. Many of you know me because I
live here and that’s why I have a good inside look to what the club
wants and needs. That’s what its all about, you the membership. It would
a great honor to represent you. Thank you
