THE DESIGN CYCLE

What is the Design Cycle?

Investigate Stage

Design Stage

Plan Stage

Create Stage

Evaluate Stage

THIS is the Design Cycle.

What is it for?The Design Cycle is a 5 step-process which allows the user to make whatever product he/she wants to make, step-by-step. This allows for the user to possess an organized plan on how to make his/her product without cramming.

5 Steps? There are 5 steps in the Design Cycle.

In order, they are the Investigate Stage, the Design Stage, the Plan Stage, the Create Stage and finally, the Evaluate Stage.

Exactly!

The Investigate StageThe Investigate Stage

is the first and foremost process in the Design Cycle. This is where the problem is identified and a solution for the problem is made. This is also where all related research is done.

The Design StageThe Design Stage is the

second process involved in the Design Cycle. In the Design Stage, you will need to think of what your product will look like, pretty obvious looking at the name though.

Page 7: “The Solution to cramming.” -Johann Lam( Xavierian )

The Plan StageIn the Plan Stage, you will

need to think of a plan on how you are going to make your product. This plan should include a timeline, calendar, etc. Specifically, things that will help you prevent cramming and help you distribute time evenly.

The Create StageThe Create Stage is probably the MOST

IMPORTANT process involved in the Design Cycle. This is where the product is finally made into a reality. All of the other processes actually revolve around this one process.

Page 9: “The Solution to cramming.” -Johann Lam( Xavierian )

The Evaluate StageThe Evaluate Stage is the

final process involved in the Design Cycle. This is where the final product made in the create stage is evaluated and examined for any possible defects. If any problems are found on the product, the situation may call for you to go back to the design stage and follow the cycle again.

Did you get all of that?

Here’s a little quiz to see if you understood everything.

Rules: Identify what stage of the

Design Cycle is being shown in each picture.

Now that you’ve mastered the Design Cycle…

Now I shall let you in on a little secret…A lot of products seen

around the world these days are actually products of the Design Cycle. Even this presentation that you

are seeing right now is made using the Design

Cycle itself!

Page 27: “The Solution to cramming.” -Johann Lam( Xavierian )

Now that you know…

All of your tasks can be done easier now that you know how to make use of the

Design Cycle!

Page 28: “The Solution to cramming.” -Johann Lam( Xavierian )

Now…

Go out there and make us all proud!
