Another year of excellent A Level results at The Royal School21% achieve A*/ A grades STEM Specialism shines through

A-Level students from The Royal School achieve their first choice universities by shining in the most rigorous, facilitating subjects, seen to be of greatest value to universities and major employers. Twenty one percent of A Level grades attained are at A*/A with particularly excellent results in STEM subjects. One hundred percent of our students in Further Mathematics attained A*/A and 48% attained A*/A in mathematics, while 40% in physics attained A*/A and 53% at A*/B in chemistry. Pupils studying English literature performed well with 20% attaining A*/A grades and 56% attaining A*/B grades. As a non-selective school, we are very proud of our students and their results.

Worth mentioning are some of our star students. Johann Siewers will be studying Chemistry at York as a result of his three A*s in physics, chemistry and mathematics, and an A in German. Amaan Yasin achieved two A*’s in biology and chemistry, A in maths and an A* in EPQ (the research based Extended Project Qualification) that universities highly value. He will be pursuing medicine at The University of Birmingham. Stanley Fullman attained two A*’s in further mathematics and mathematics, an A in chemistry and physics and an A in EPQ. Victoria Kuckina achieved a very impressive set of A Level results with an A* in mathematics, and three A’s in further mathematics, sociology and Russian while Jacob Watson also achieved three A’s and will be studying engineering at The University of Manchester.

In addition to Victoria, our other top performing girls Melanie Mills (A*A*A), Goda Stitilyte (A*AA) and Emily Wall (AAA) have all received places at their first-choice universities. Melanie plans to study Law at Warwick University, Emily will be heading to Durham University to study History, while Goda is going through adjustment to study biology.

In these times of high competition for the best university places, it is pleasing to note the great success that The Royal students have in securing their first-choice places. Even more impressive, however, is the fact that that their achievements are in the most rigorous academic subjects that the universities demand.

At The Royal our focus continues to be on the development of the whole person as all pupils engage in a range of enrichment activities as part of life in the Sixth Form, take significant leadership roles and develop teamwork skills which will take them beyond outcomes in examinations into a productive and successful career in their chosen discipline.” said Principal Mark Heywood.

The Royal School was founded in 1850 originally as an orphanage, and is now a fully co-educational day and boarding Free School.
