The simple answer is we do it to make a differ- ence. We make a difference in the lives of people, some we know and many we don’t. We can help save the lives of children in Zam- bia by helping to provide safe drinking water. We can help save lives in our community by bringing attention to the perils of distracted driving. We raise money to help the hungry and the needy and the abused and the ne- glected and the illiterate. This is yet another journey of my life that has been made special because all of you have been part of it. God in HIS/HER infinite wisdom chose not to give me an ordinary cold or cough but a “freaking” brain tumor…but we Rotarians know how to overcome all obstacles, don’t we? What is a minor brain tumor? So hang in there my friends…with all of your help, this OCIW (One Crazy Indian Woman, as coined by the 2010-2011 President Elect’s) will be up and running in no time. In the meantime please know that it gave me great strength to know that, in my time of need, not only did I have my own family and close friends, but also the collective power of a worldwide network of caring and concerned people to support my emotional and physical needs. Again, please accept my deepest thanks for all your support and expres- sion of genuine love. I am in- deed, humbled and fortunate to be a member of such a wonderful organization we call “The Family of Rotary”. As a special treat, Tuesday the 17th, we will induct our soon to be “Newest Member”, Jane Trapp. We

will have a short Bio and pictures next week. Jane’s sponsor is Susan Rees. Great going Susan.

At the last meeting, I was questioning why we bother to invest time, money and energy into Rotary. It sure would be easier not to! The simple answer is we do it to make a differ-ence. We make a difference in the lives of people, some we know and many we don’t. We can help save the lives of children in Zam-bia by helping to provide safe drinking water. We can help save lives in our community by bringing attention to the perils of distracted driving. We raise money to help the hungry and the needy and the abused and the ne-glected and the illiterate. So get involved and help us to make a difference!

“DISTRICT GOVERNOR TO ATTEND NEXT MEETING, AUGUST 17th !

Please attend the next meeting to help us wel-come our District Governor Deepa Willing-ham. She is a dynamic speaker and an amaz-ing person.

As you know, District Governor Deepa Willing-ham will be our special guest at next week’s meeting and I guarantee you this is a meeting you don’t want to miss. If we haven’t seen you in a while, this is a great opportunity to get to a meeting! Also, bring a guest. Please help fill the room.

"Tears may come and go, But there's one thing I know. All my life you're a friend of mine. You can depend on me. I'll be fine... 'Cause you're a friend of mine."

I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your prayers, best wishes, help, and support over the last few days. This is yet another journey of my life that has been made special because all of you have been part of it. God in HIS/HER infinite

wisdom chose not to give me an ordinary cold or cough but a “freaking” brain tumor…but we Rotarians know how to overcome all obstacles, don’t we? What is a minor brain tumor? We are IN-SPIRED to banish of Polio and to eradicate extreme poverty! How can a minor setback hold me back when I have my sister Vicki and all of you on my side? So hang in there my friends…with all of your help, this OCIW (One Crazy Indian Woman, as coined by the 2010-2011 President Elect’s) will be up and running in

no time.

In the meantime please know

that it gave me great strength to know that, in my time of need, not only did I have my own family and close friends, but also the collective power of a worldwide network of caring and concerned people to support my emotional and physical needs. Again, please accept my deepest thanks for all your support and expres-sion of genuine love. I am in-deed, humbled and fortunate to be a member of such a wonderful organization we call “The Family

Our thoughts and prayers are, as always, with Tara Nelson. We really miss you Tara. We wish you would come back and see us. Oh yea, Bring that Ken fellow too. We miss him also. Tuesday would be a great time while DG Deepa Wil-lingham is here.

Please remember Francine Rickett in your prayers. Francine is having a rough time with Ned and needs our thoughts, prayers and support.

Program Chairperson, Carly Engel, has received a confir-mation from British Petroleum engineers that they will come to our club within the next two months to discuss the events and eventual capping of the recent oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. They promise to give a live demonstration of how pouring heavy mud and cement down the throats of

Rotarians can curtail the spewing of toxic emissions. Don’t miss this one!!!

Thanks to John Henning for this heads up

Editor’s Note: I have finally learned how to do “imbedded hot links.” In the past you would see the full URL address to the Website. Now you will see verbiage such as “The Rotary Club of Santa Maria” which you can know is a hot link as your cursor will turn into a little hand as you hover over the link. In addition “links” are usually blue in color and underlined. I

hope this makes your reading of The Rotator, on line, more enjoyable and rewarding.

A reminder that several back issues as well as the current issue of The Rotator can be found on our Website. I also have every issue I have done since September 23, 2008 if there is a specific issue you may

want. The Rotary Club of Santa Maria

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all

concerned?

Will it build GOOD

WILL and BETTER

FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL

to all concerned
