Presidents Report
PRISCA congratulation to Rotaract and Rotarian for another successful night. Thanks to Sam and Alf and Rotarians for organising and cooking the BBQ on White Ribbon Day. Served 200 meals to attendees including school children and the band, cooking and serving went well. Tree of Joy opened at Burwood Plaza and Ashfield Mall. Put picture on face book and contacted by Real estate agency at Coogee who wanted to participate Tried Local Rotary Clubs but none participating Gave them 50 tickets Membership information night next week. Finger food and wine organised. We need definite numbersWent to district AGM and in discussion with the District Governor was offered monetary assistance for the Information night.

There will be two new members seminars in Jan and Feb in Sutherland and ParramattaSteven Knightly membership Chairman , if down to 20 member it is becomes a struggle to run the clubInternational conference in Korea, Early bird conference fees close mid December, Last year in our districts 4 clubs closed and one has opened, 1 only 10 per cent of members are aged under 50. Last 3 years district has lost 50% of members, but others have of course joined. There has been 6 % loss in the last 18 months. PRISCA dinner went well, Club only supplied 3 staff including Pat and Martina, we did the service.
Pp David Wright spoke to PDG Lloyde Roever,, Adam had stent and has improved slightly. Still in hospital. He also had a call from pp Ron Lucas who is now in a Nursing Home in Terry Hills,
pp Walter On PRISCA night last week talked to father who said son was very excited at representing his schoolCanadian Rotary Club donating kits in Philippines for Days for Girls. Out Global Grant for Manilla is not through yet. delayed by Red tape. Packing for Donations in Kind on 4th Dec, postponed as no reply from hosp ital and so likely to happen in an or even Feb. Walter needs help at home to sort things out.

Pp Walter introduced Guest speaker. Patrick is a Rotarian from Ryde, talking about Philately, Walter has decided Patrick is an expert on almost any subject. Born in NZ but not a Kiwi, but from England who grew up in Borneo, He was a TAFE teacher. He has been collecting stamps since 1971.
Patrick collects British North Borneo, stamps as his parents lived there. He was in New Zealand when the Japanese invades and so spent the war years in New Zealand. He explained why stamps are more valuable if they have been used on an envelope and many study the history based on the date and place certifications used to cancel the stamps . Before 1840 postage was expensive but eventually changed to sender pays rather than recipient pays
When sender pays uniform rate was 1 penny. IN 1840 Penny black stamp was introduced. In 2010 one was sold for $44K pounds,
in Australia, prepaid stamps for envelopes arrived in about 1938.
in about 1838 prepaid stamps to stick on an envelope arrived. The Market for stamps are the auction Houses but Ebay is now a major player. Hobby is structured, with “ Federation International “ at the top. There are exhibitions and competitions. There are various types of stamp books to exhibit them., often exhibited as stamps and as envelopes. Judges look at how they are exhibited, their importance , the research on the stamp, its condition, rarity and the presentation.
Where to buy? Exhibitions, Ebay. Auctions. Philasearch web site, Stamp clubs, Stamp dealers. Get info online Stampboard.com, Clubs. Dealers, Literature, Many Patrick showed us many examples of Borneo stamps, , real and forgeries. North Borneo stamps. Example of rare stamps worth up to $9 million. Example of personal envelope he bought on eBay. Patrick was thanked by Sam Helou and presented certificate.
