The aftermath of the Boston Massacre spurned the creation of the “Committees of Correspondence” across Massachusetts. and then into the other Colonies

These “committees” functioned to communicate issues and disseminate ideas to the other colonies

• The Intolerable Acts of 1774 were the British response to the Boston tea party– Boston Port Act – closed the Port– Revoked Mass’s right to self-

government and local elections– Tried colonial “criminals” in England– Quartering Act allowed Britain to seize

buildings and property, as well as forcibly quarter soldiers in the colonies

– Created a permanent government for Canada to separate the 13 colonies from the former French claims

– Dissolved the Virginia House of Burgesses
