In Latin class way back in high school, our professor taught us a saying that I’ve remembered. It was necessitas non habet legem. It means “necessity has no laws.”
In ECK this is certainly true. The Holy spirit will juggle rules and use us as vehicles to make a change in other people’s consciousness. Of course, we ourselves are not out to do such a thing. We look for peace, quiet, and harmony, and we do not get that if we upset the people around us. So we take great care not to do that.

A Speedier Path to God

I got a letter from a man who is married to a Russian woman. He doesn’t speak Russian, but in his letter to me he talked about Easter time. It is one of the most important Russian holidays.
It begins like this: in the morning, the couple in a family kiss each other on each cheek, and then once lightly on the lips with great tenderness. They make a vow to say or do nothing negative all day long. And this then becomes a very special day in the life of the Russian people. It occurred to him that if anyone ever asked, “How is Eckankar a speedier path to God than another religion?” he could say ECKists practice daily what most others practice weekly, and ECKists practice weekly what most others practice yearly. This is not to set ourselves above others. Heaven knows we have our own problems in Eckankar. Every organization has its shining lights — probably most of the membership. But there are always a few; these are the ones that other people in the church wish would go to some other religion and get their spiritual food there. But they seldom go. This is part of living, this is part of life. The language of love. The Russian ceremony is certainly a language of love — first in the couple’s tenderness, then in saying everything positive and thinking positive for the entire day. This is a pact with God.
This is saying, “For one day in this year at least, I’m going to try to live according to the Law of Love.” Because we know that God is Love.
Earth is a place to learn spiritual lessons. Learning lessons
implies that all lessons are not yet learned. Some lessons are still there to be learned.
