installing conduits, pipes and wire electrical circuits,

and connecting electrical protective devices,

equipment, fittings and accessories in accordance with

the drawing and layout plan for electrical installation

while ensuring safety.

NATIONAL COMPETENCY STANDARD

Competency Unit Title: CARRY OUT DOMESTIC BUILDING WIRING.

Competency Elements

This competency unit consists of the following elements: Element 1: Prepare electrical wiring materials. Element 2: Lay conduits, pipes and wires (including earthing wires). Element 3: Install electrical fittings and accessories. Element 4: Install distribution board and electrical protective devices. Element 5: Perform testing and commissioning process.

1. Prepare electrical wiring materials.

1.1 Prepare resources required to install the building electrical system in accordance with the drawing and layout plan.

1.2 Apply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per job requirements.

1.3 Set up safe work site before commencing the installation activities in accordance with the drawing and layout plan.

2. Lay conduits, pipes and wires (including earthing wires).

2.1 Mark route of conduits, pipes and location of electrical fittings and accessories as instructed.

2.2 Draw the wires/cables in the existing conduit according to the circuit requirements and colour codes to ensure safety.

2.3 Apply the correct earthing wires according to electrical regulations.

3. Install electrical fittings and accessories.

3.1 Assist in fixing of fittings and fixtures as instructed 3.2 Assist in erecting electrical fittings and accessories at

the standard height and stipulated locations according to the instruction of immediate supervisor.

3.3 Clean and maintain work area to keep it safe upon completion of all work activities in accordance with occupational safety and health requirements.

4. Install distribution board and electrical protective devices.

4.1 Perform as an assistant/ or assist in the installation of main control panels / boards at the location according to the instruction of immediate supervisor.

4.2 Assist in the installation of protective switchgear(s) on distribution box and perform tasks according to the instruction of immediate supervisor.

4.3 Assist in the termination of main supply cables, earth wires and all sub-circuits to corresponding devices and perform tasks according to the instruction of immediate supervisor.

5. Perform testing and commissioning process.

5.1 Select the correct setting of and use of the multi-meter to measure resistances and voltages.

5.2 Use the Megger meter (insulation tester) to measure the wires insulation with the supervision of relevant person.

5.3 Record and report the results to the relevant person.
