The Raoul Wallenberg Institute OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITARIAN LAW
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Huma-
nitarian Law is a non-profit foundation established in 1984.
The Institute is named after Raoul Wallenberg in tribute to
his humanitarian efforts during WWII. The Institute’s vision is
to be a centre of excellence in the field of human rights and
humanitarian law and thereby contribute to the development
of societies based on a culture of human rights.
Through academic and applied research, the Institute ma-
kes an active contribution to the development, application
and advancement of human rights. The Institute is a part of
Lund University and has close cooperation with a number of
other academic institutions in Sweden and abroad. With 30
000 volumes, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute also has one of
northern Europe’s largest research libraries for human rights
and humanitarian law. The library is open to the public and
represents a rich source of material for students and resear-
chers from all over the world.
In addition to its academic activities, the Raoul Wallenberg
Institute also has extensive international action programmes,
often taking the form of training, to support and develop the
work of institutions and organisations on human rights. The
programmes are usually long-term commitments and form
an important component of the work to change institutions
and legal traditions – and thereby achieve change for the
individual.
In order to strengthen and advance human rights, we need
your support. Together we can make a difference for the indi-
vidual and promote human rights cultures around the world.
Help strengthen protection of human rights
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute works to promote universal respect for human rights and humanitarian law. The principal tools are research, education and consultancy, often targeted at authorities and decision-makers at both national and international level. By sup-porting the activities of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, you can help increase knowledge of human rights and defend the rights of the individual. Your contribution can make a difference in the world.
In order to meet the widespread need for education and research in the field of human rights, additional support is needed for the activities of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. Together we can make a real difference for humanity. VISITING RESEARCHER PROGRAMMEThere is major demand from researchers, especially in develo-
ping countries, to visit the international research environment
at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. Your support could give a
qualified researcher the opportunity to participate in a visiting
researcher programme at the Institute or make possible the
general expansion of such a programme.
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPA new postdoctoral fellowship contributes to important cut-
ting edge and relevant research development at the Raoul
Wallenberg Institute. With additional funding for research,
we can further advance human rights and humanitarian law.
GLOBAL TALENT SCHOLARSHIPSThe Faculty of Law at Lund University offers an international
Master’s programme in Human Rights, in close collaboration
with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. Since its establishment,
around 170 students have completed the programme. A
scholarship donation, enables students with the potential
to become the leaders of tomorrow, to study at one of the
world’s leading universities.
LITERATUREAccess to relevant literature on human rights and humani-
tarian law is a basic prerequisite for academic research and
education in these fields. In many developing countries, this
prerequisite is lacking. With your help, the Raoul Wallenberg
Institute can help to strengthen research at libraries and aca-
demic institutions worldwide by supplying literature in these
fields.
HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITARIAN LAW JOURNALA new journal would contain high-quality academic papers
and articles from institutions that work with human rights
on the ground, for example national human rights bodies or
representatives of the legal system. The journal would have
broad geographic representation of researchers and a focus
on authors from countries where human rights are threatened
in different ways and where resources for publication are
limited. This would enable it to support a wide and diverse
range of research, academic freedom and improved access to
academic analysis in the field of human rights.
LIBRARY DEVELOPMENTThe Raoul Wallenberg Institute library is already one of the
leading research libraries for human rights and humanitarian
law in northern Europe. With more resources we could further
expand our collections and provide better opportunities for
research and study in these fields.
