Jana Montour and Kim Jones have been trading alternate victories on the Northwest Women's Pool Association Tour since March. On the tour's fifth stop, on the weekend of August 11-12, with their victories even at two apiece, it was Montour's turn to win it, and she did, defeating Kimberly Kirk twice - once in the hot seat match and again in the finals - to complete an undefeated weekend. The $750-added event drew 31 entrants to Parlor Billiards in Bellevue, WA. Montour started strong, giving up only two racks in her first three matches; none versus Fran Johnson and one each versus Jenny Lucas and Alicia Kvasnicka. This set her up among the winners' side final four, facing Liz Cole (going into the event, ranked at # 3 on the tour, directly behind Montour and Jones). Suzanne Smith (# 6), in the meantime, who'd defeated Elaine Eberly 7-3, Tamre Rogers 7-4 and sent Kim Jones west 7-5, squared off against Kirk. Montour advanced to the winners' side finals with a 7-4 victory over

Cole, as Kirk sent Smith packing 7-5. Montour then downed Kirk 7-4, and sat in the hot seat, awaiting her return. Kim Jones, at work on the loss side, was looking to come back for a third finals battle against Montour in the current season. She began that journey with a 6-2 victory over Denice White, and followed it with a 6-3 victory over Val Franiel. This set Jones up to face Cole. Smith drew Shelby Locati (# 7 in tour rankings), who'd gotten by Mary Hopkin 6-2 and Tamre

Rogers 6-3. Jones and Cole battled to double hill before Jones prevailed to advance to the quarterfinals. She was joined by Locati, who'd ended Rogers' day 6-3. Locati ended Jones' bid to meet Montour again in the finals by the same 6-3 score. It was a day for 6-3 scores, as Kirk downed Locati by that same score in the semifinals. A win for Kirk would have elevated her from 17th place in the tour rankings into a tie for fifth place with Suzanne Smith. It was not to

be. Montour chalked up the event title with a 9-6 victory, solidifying her top spot in the rankings. Kirk moved among the top ten, settling in at # 7.

OnOn August 11th and 12th, the Lone Star Tour’s Texas Open “Warm-Up” 9-ball event at Skinny Bob’s in Round Rock, Texas drew 120 players with 167 total entries in 3 divisions. Notables David Henson, James Davis Sr., Doug Young, Manny Chau, Charlie Bryant, Junior Jueco, and Kevin Guimond participated in the 59 player Open division while the 90 player Amateur division included Patrick Hill, Jacob Warriner, Mark Mallow, Chris Sharier, Jacob Jiminez, Marty Dill, and Jim Miller, just to name a few. The event paid out in excess of $10,000 with players representing Dallas, Austin, Houston, Temple, Kileen, Ft. Worth, and San Antonio. The Tour would like to thank Skinny Bob’s Billiards and their entire staff for hosting another first rate event. Lone Star Tour events are sponsored by Poison by Predator cues www.poisonbilliards.com, Delta-13 Rack www.delta-13.com, APA of North Harris County, and Gulf Coast Billiards. On Saturday, the Amateur field ran down to 48 for Sunday’s 12pm, first round. On Sunday, the winner’s side 16 saw Houston’s Will Felder defeat Tracy Sanders, Ft. Worth’s Brian Anderson best David Escobedo, Cielo Vasquez pass Ron Franklin, Steve Lindgren over Pete Herrera, Steve Pennington oust Sonny Demetro, Frank Ferrer Jr. beat Jacob Warriner, Cesar Garcia over Nick Banks and Lee Rosa over Mike Mallow. On the one-loss side Skinny Bob owner Rich Anglin eliminated Demetro, Patrick Hill bested Jacob Warriner, Jesse Martinez dusted Nick Banks, Travis Phelps fell to Mike Mallow, Tracy Sanders bested Daniel Johnson, David Escobedo ousted Chris Sharier, Ricardo Espinosa eliminated Ron Franklin and J.P Lopez sent home Pete Herrera. When the dust settled on the east side, the final four pitted Brian Anderson v. Cielo Vasquez and Frank Ferrer Jr. v. Lee Rosa. With another round down on the west side, Felder defeated Hill 5-3, Mallow eliminated Lindgren 4-2, Sanders dusted off Pennington and Espinosa passed Garcia. On the winners’ side, Vasquez defeated Anderson and Ferrer secured his place over Rosa. Cielo secured the hot seat over Ferrer, 5-2, while Mallow eliminated Felder 4-1 and Sanders did the same to Espinosa, 4-2. T. Sanders took down Anderson 4-3 then Mallow 4-2 to reach Ferrer. It was Ferrer over Sanders, 4-3, which pitted Ferrer v. Vasquez in the final. In the first of two sets, Ferrer came on strong and confident over Vasquez, 5-2. The second set was a different story as Vasquez jumped to a 3-0 lead, and on the hill. Ferrer answered back, winning a

rack then breaking and running 2 racks. At 3-3, Ferrer broke without results and it came down to Vasquez who played a safety on the 3-ball. Ferrer kicked 2 rails at the 3-ball and missed. Vasquez ran down to the 8-ball where he positioned himself with a dreaded, straight-in shot; 9-ball down table on the opposite side rail, middle diamond. Vasquez chose to stop the cue-ball and accept the long, tough cut on the 9-ball. Vasquez missed the 9-ball but left it safe. Ferrer chose to play a safety of his own using a light touch shot, bumping the 9-ball to the rail and off where it rejoined the cue-ball in a precarious position. Vasquez attempted to play safe by fanning the 9-ball and sending the cue-ball to the short-side end rail where he left Ferrer a bank at the side pocket. Ferrer seized the opportunity to close the set out, banking the 9-ball in the side for the win. Congratulations to Frank Ferrer, Jr. on his first Lone Star Tour win and to Cielo Vasquez for a very hard fought tournament. The Open division played down to 32 for Sunday with winners’ side final 8 action that saw James Davis Sr. defeat Cielo Vasquez 8-5,

On the one-loss side, Ferrer Jr. beat Chris Haussman, Warriner bested Tony Oliva, Brian Anderson overtook Brian Sanders, and John Palmore defeated Demetro. Back east, Davis Sr. slid by Henson 8-7 and Bryant dusted Chau, 8-4. After another one-loss round, Vasquez defeated Felder 6-5 and Dordek fell to Young who was later eliminated by Henson, 6-1. Vasquez was sent home by Chau 6-2, as was Henson, 6-4. Hot seat action saw Bryant blow past Davis, Sr., 8-5 who was dusted off in the next round by Chau, 8-5. In the first of the two set-final, Chau came on strong with an 8-5 win. Bryant took a short break, coming back cool and composed to win the final set, 6-2. Congratulations to Charlie Bryant on his second 2012 Lone Star win. The 18 player ladies field included Kim Pierce, Julia Rapp, Loretta Lindgren, Liz Kirkman and Michelle Cortez. Kim Sanders defeated Liz Kirkman for the hot seat. Kirkman then defeated Pierce 4-3 on the one-loss side but fell to Sanders in the final. Nicole McDaniel finished a respectable 4th. The next event will be at Hawley’s Billiards in Dallas, Texas on August 13th- 14th, 2012.

Red Shoes Billiards of Alsip Illinois (Chicago) hosted a BANK POOL Tournament on Saturday August 4th, 2012. This was a $500 added money, double elimination, "Race to 23 balls" event. For those of you who have never heard of a "RACE TO 23 BALLS" format, it works like this....After the break (FULL RACK) the players play out the WHOLE first rack (keeping a total of credited balls....i.e. 8/7). The player scoring the final (15th) ball of the first rack breaks the second rack (opening break rules apply). The second FULL RACK is played out (with players keeping a running total

of credited balls). If necessary the players will play a third FULL RACK until one player reaches 23 total credited balls (which ends the match). Typically matches last from one to two hours (depending how "safe/aggressive" the players are). This was a one day (iron man) tournament. It was a FULL FIELD with the following results:1st Brian Gregg,2nd Darryl Abernathy, 3rd Eric Hincks, 4th Jeff Carter, 5th-6th Freddie (The Beard) Bentivegna & Jeremy Bauers, 7th-8th Neal Jacobs & Rich Meager. As usual it was a very tough field with some home town favorites being knocked out earlier than expected (i.e...Glen "Piggybanks" Rogers, Ike "The Great Ike" Runnels and Eric "The Worm" Wermes). Next in the Red Shoes Billiards Tournament schedule is ONE POCKET on Saturday September 1st, 2012.
