Swimming Carnival Report Picnic Point High School has started the year off with great achievements. On Wednesday 28th February, 2018, we held our annual swimming carnival at Max Parker Leisure Centre. It was a fantastic day, full of eager competitors attempting to book their place at the Zone Carnival. We saw an increase in competitor numbers in comparison to last year, and this was reflected in the overall results on the day. Murphy House were the eventual winners of the carnival by just 14 points, with Doohan House coming in second. This was the closest a carnival has been for a while and reflected the competitive nature of all students who swam on the day. The winning streak of Doohan House has been broken, which stood at 6 swimming carnivals in a row (2012-2017). A great effort by Murphy House, as well as everyone else who attended the carnival. The final points tally is as follows; Murphy – 968 points, Doohan – 954 points, Hankin – 651 points, Slater - 397 points On the 5th March, 2018, Picnic Point HS attended the BSSSA Zone Swimming Carnival. We sent a total of 50 students to this carnival who all competed with great pride and respect for our school. We had a total of 14 different relay teams make it to the Regional Carnival, as well as 12 individuals who will compete in multiple events themselves. In total, 39 students will represent our school and our zone at the Regional Carnival. A big congratulations to these students, we wish you all the best on the day. Mr G. Arvanitis

Year 7 Transition Program 2018

After consultation with staff, parents and listening to student feedback we have had an opportunity to build on and improve the way we welcome our Year 7 students to our school community by implementing a 12 day Year 7 Transition Program. The program included lessons on anti-bullying, inclusivity and diversity, social skills, mindfulness, setting goals, school expectations, the school diary and fun team building activities. Year 7 also engaged in a Project Based Learning (PBL) unit based on the theme 'What Connects People'. This involved Year 7 being divided into teams who then worked on creating, designing and constructing a model on a selected space of the school grounds to turn it into a 'meeting place' as their project. The program culminated with an exhibition of all their models and a presentation from the 12 finalist teams. All Year 7 students had fun getting to know each other and learning how to work together to problem solve whilst developing their collaborative, communication, creative and critical thinking skills. Essential skills which will assist Year 7 in all their subjects and beyond. The transition program has been successful in supporting our Year 7 students in their transition to high school.
