security managementDuration: 3 years from November 2008
MATUREFunding: EU (FP7)Area: Continuous social
learning in knowledge networksDuration: 4 years from April 2008
Current Projects
POSECCOFunding: EU (FP7)Area: Policy and Security
Configuration ManagementDuration: 3 years from October 2010
SIMPLANFunding: FFG COINArea: Planning & simulation framework
for single-part and small series production with high process uncertainty & external processing
Duration: 2 years from October 20106

An example: The MATURE project
EU FP7 IP, Unit for Technology-Enhanced LearningApril 2008 to March 2012Objectives:• Analysis of real-world maturing practices• Personal & Organisational Learning & Maturing
Environment• Reusable maturing servicesMethodology:• Agile, participatory design• Ethnographically-informed, qualitative &
quantitative research methods• Bridging interpretive & design science research

Funded by the “Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft”: April 2007 to November 2013(Two fundamental research projects) Underlying Problem and Objectives:• Today, process models in organizations are widely created and adapted in a manual way time-consuming task causing high costs
• Automated process modeling tries to alleviatethis drawback by combining Semantic Business ProcessManagement and AI Planning theories.
Methodology:• Design Science Research: Constructing and
evaluating artifacts by means of algorithmdesign, quantitative modelling, prototyping, ...

A third example: Manufacturing planning and control systems employing the workload control concept

Combination of theoretical work and projects with companies. Recently:•Theoretical: Missbauer (2009, 2010), Pürgstaller/Missbauer 2010), Missbauer/Uzsoy (2009)•SIMPLAN, funded by FFG COIN, 2010-2012: Planning & simulation framework for single-part and small series productionUnderlying Problem and Objectives:•In complex production systems detailed scheduling often is performed locally. Production orders and release/finish dates must be determined that coordinate the production units. •How to determine optimal orders and release/finish dates considering flow time effects? Methodology:•Design Science Research: Conceptual and mathematical modelling; improving order release models; supporting practical implementation (with companies and software vendors)
