Brother Sir Knights

This year has passed by quickly as we are now in the last quarter of 2018. A lot of events are happening around this time during the

Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season. We have a lot to be thankful for and we must keep those that are in need in our hearts

and prayers as the Knights of Columbus are always there to help out and assist when duty calls. We will be having a Memorial

Mass in memory of the 14 Sir Knights that have passed away this year on November 14th at 7:00 PM in Assumption BVM Church,

1900 Meadowbrook Road in Feasterville. Mass will begin at 7:00 PM. Please make every effort to attend as a show of respect for

these Brother Sir Knights and their families.

Also, many members of our area Councils will be helping out at St. John Hospice on November 18th serving meals to the resident

homeless population. Members will also be dropping off food and supplies to the St. Francis Inn in Kensington. If any Sir Knight

wishes to participate in either of these noble functions, feel free to reach out to me for additional information.

The Public Unveiling of the Saint Katharine Drexel Tomb and Altar will also take place on November 18th at the Cathedral

Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City. There is an urgent need for Color Corpsmen, the “Visible Arm of the Knights of

Columbus”, to attend and assist with this historic event. Please consider participating as the Mass will be televised worldwide by

EWTN. Contact me or Color Corp Commander Robert Thompson for more information on reporting time and location.

Friar’s Message

Dear Brothers,

As we are approaching the November 6 mid-term elections, I find myself thinking about the two topics which should never be discussed. I know each of you quickly thought about “politics” and “religion” as these apparently forbidden topics of conversation. You may blame my philosophical studies in the College Division of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary for my need to question; question I will. As a typical 2 year old, I wonder “why” not discuss religion and politics? While there may be many reasons, I have drawn a personal conclusion that at least some people do not want to talk about emotionally-charged issues, which fall within the arenas of religion and politics. I truly think, too, that basic truths which are outside these arenas can be placed there, so necessary and basic truths may be avoided because some individuals are “not religious” or do not accept a particular political persuasion.

We are Knights of Columbus, who live as Catholic gentlemen known for charity, fraternity, patriotism and unity. As faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, we follow the Master Who was un-afraid to speak the truth, regardless of the cost; ultimately His life! As Jesus sacrificed His life, so to rise from the dead, we are called to sacrifice popular opinion and comfort for the sake of the truth. Each individual who is conceived in the womb has the basic right to life; our Constitution clearly states this truth. When we talk about emotionally-charged issues related to religion and politics, we need not be silent. When the Con-stitutional right to life is challenged and denied, may I offer a response to those who are “not religious” or do not accept a political persuasion? Natural law and common sense point to the truth about life; it is plainly wrong to take an innocent per-son’s life from conception to natural death. This issue is nei-ther primarily religious nor political.

Vivat Jesus!

Father Mike Davis

Faithful Navigator Message continued from Page 1:

In closing, please keep all Seminarians and Clergy in your

prayers. Pray to keep all of the men and women in our

Armed Forces, Police, Fire, EMT’s, etc. safe and out of

harm’s way. And to bless the great country that we live

in...The United States of America!

Fraternally yours,

SK Anthony Porretta

Knights of Columbus Silver Rose Mass and Rosary

The Knights of Columbus Silver Rose came through the Diocese of Philadelphia and stopped at Our Lady of Calvary

Parish on its journey from Canada, through the U.S. and into Mexico. On September 6th, the Sir Knights of Regina

Coeli Council # 4921 conceived and coordinated a beautiful Mass service that included the participation of the St. John

Newman Assembly Color Corps and Sisters of Life Religious Order. Special thanks to District Deputy Nick Millilo, Re-

gina Coeli Grand Knight Mike Thaete, Deputy Grand Knight Mike Ciampoli and their fellow Knights for sponsoring a

wonderful event honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary.
