TRANSCRIPT
You may have gotten to a point in your career in which your daily tasks have become somewhat standard and regular. After a while it might be easy to get accustomed to an everyday schedule, and you may find yourselves stuck in a routine that lacks the zeal and drive that make this occupation so rewarding. This way of thinking could potentially become hazardous to your careers, as your goals for self-achievement and helping provide families with protection become secondary to the daily grind of calls and appointments. It’s important not to let
yourselves fall into a pattern like this. It’s important to keep life and momentum in your careers by continuously igniting a passion that can help you reach every dream, every aspiration, and really take advantage of the opportunity Liberty National offers.
We’ve been talking a lot about Branches meeting their ‘passion number’ for the year (the goal amount of total net submit production), and there’s a reason it has that name. In order to find true success in this career, you must have passion in everything you do.
On a larger scale, providing families with some financial protection and advancing your career should spark some serious fervor and enthusiasm in your work ethic. When you truly care about helping your customers, and when you truly care about the impact of your success on you and your family, you’ll find that passion goes a long way in your overall success. And when you’re passionate about the big picture, you’ll have more energy in every aspect of your career. You’ll start contacting more worksites and more households; you’ll come to your Monday meetings with more gusto; and you’ll step up your recruiting efforts by approaching people you see in line at the grocery store, the waiter/waitresses serving your meal, or store clerks working at the mall. When your professional success and the well being of the customers you serve truly concern you, this occupation suddenly becomes so much more than a simple livelihood. My point is, this is a career in which passion is not an option – it’s a necessity.
So if you’re on board (and I hope you are), the next step is inciting your inner drive and desire to succeed by getting in the right frame of mind to make your dreams a reality. Do what you need to do to add this essential element to your careers and then get to work on what could be the most fulfilling and lucrative periods of your lives. And remember that passion is not a self-sustaining thing. It’s up to you to ignite the flame and to keep it burning, and the time to ignite that flame is now.
The great thing about this Company is that you help yourselves by helping others – both by assisting families in their most dire hour, and by presenting a fantastic opportunity to those willing to make better lives for themselves. How could you be anything but passionate about a career like this? I know that passion is in every one of you, so set it in motion and set yourselves on the path to reach your ‘passion numbers’ and beyond.

GOOD NEWS!!Invest in Torchmark and Invest in Yourself!
1. Why purchase TMK stock? When you purchase Torchmark common stock through the Agent Stock Purchase Plan, you become a shareholder in Torchmark. You can profit from the contribution you make to Torchmark, share in the Corporation’s success, and build your own personal wealth.
2. how do i enroll? Complete an enrollment form and send to the Home Office, attention Cory Newman. Minimum monthly contribution is $20 through compensation deductions. To participate, complete a Deduction Authorization Form and a Form W-9 and submit to the Payroll Department in the Home Office. Once you enroll, your participation and deductions continue automatically each month. If you do not have adequate funds to cover the deduction, you will be dropped from the ASPP and will have to wait six months to enroll again.
3. Who can take part and when? After you’ve been contracted for 30 days, you can enroll in the plan, whether you’re an independent contractor or an employee.
4. how many shares can i purchase at one time? That depends on the price of the stock on the monthly ‘Purchase Date’. Your contributions are set aside in an account until the Purchase Date. The dollar amount of
your contributions is divided by the purchase price of the stock on the Purchase Date to determine the number of shares purchased for you. For example, if you have $500 in accrued contributions on the Purchase Date and the closing price of the stock is $50, you receive 10 shares of stock.
5. how can i track my shares, account status, etc.? Once you are enrolled in the ASPP, an account is set up in your name with Sterne Agee, the brokerage firm. You will be able to access your account, check its status, and track your shares.
Keep in mind:
• Participation is voluntary.
• Company pays the cost of administering the plan, including brokerage charges.
• You can change the amount of your contribution with a two-week notice.
• If you leave the plan, whether voluntarily or due to lack of funds to cover the monthly deduction, you must wait six months to re-enroll.
Additional details on the Agent Stock Purchase Plan are coming soon. Remember, an investment in Torchmark is an investment in YOU!
Beginning March 1, 2013, Torchmark’s Agent Stock Purchase Plan (ASPP) is available to Liberty National Branch Managers, Unit Managers, AUMs, and Agents. There’s not a better way to demonstrate your faith in Liberty National, its future, and YOURS than by enrolling in the plan.

Due to a high number of NSF (Non-Sufficient Funds) returns, my Branch’s DCN rose dramatically in the third quarter of 2012. To combat that issue, we decided every bank draft application would receive a funds verification call.
As Roger said at the last Branch Manager meeting, “Why do something strenuous you could pay someone else $10 an hour to do?”
That statement motivated me to increase my part-time clerical hours to allow more time for this verification process. I’m told each and every time there’s a training concern so it’s addressed with the Agent sooner rather than later.
Thankfully, my DCN is now on the decline. We keep more of the business we submit, and I have more time to focus on the important things like growing my Branch!

From John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership
•Only secure leaders give power to others.
•If the leader is able to give power away, the organization will become more powerful.
•Only empowered people can reach their full potential. Maxwell said, “I believe the greatest things happen only when you give others the credit. That’s the Law of Empowerment in action.”
THE LAW OF EMPOWERMENT #12
the passion principle torch February 2013 - 9
The implementation of Liberty National’s AUM program in 2012 is a perfect example of the Law of Empowerment. Branch Managers understand their success depends on giving power to their Unit Managers, and Unit Managers understand their success comes from giving power to their AUMs. When AUMs give power to their Agents, success results up the line.
As each level of management gives power and credit to those they depend upon, the success of one becomes the success of all, and the entire Branch becomes more powerful.

Personal Observation UNLIMITED Recruiting
Rob GraySenior Vice President
Take personal recruiting PERSONALLY! The immediate impression you leave on others in and around your community can be a powerful recruiting force that creates its own momentum. Your personal imprint can be as big and bold as you desire, but it’s got to be fueled by passion and belief. It’s passion for what we do and WHY we do it – to provide dignity and security for those we insure, while creating real wealth for our families and loved ones. It’s belief that the career path you’ve chosen can be just as rewarding and life changing to another focused, goal-oriented person. Belief can be a very powerful force, as it provides the framework for all things that make us successful.
Fueled by belief and guided by your own personal success story, personal recruiting is the key to building highly energized, motivated, and well-equipped teams, Units, and Branches at Liberty National. When you’re filled with motivation to offer a life-changing career, you have all the courage you need to approach those in your community about the Opportunity of a Lifetime!
Many in today’s workforce have reached a crossroads. They’re exhausted by concerns over their current career path and fearful of learning a new trade, so they sit and stare directly into the eyes of the uncertainty that lies ahead. That’s where we come in! It’s your responsibility to offer a compelling alternative to those who want to control their own destiny, but haven’t figured out how … yet!
After making thousands of personal recruiting interactions, I assure you most people will embrace your candor, insight, and enlightenment. After all, it’s the magnitude of your personal perspective that gets people interested in what you do. Pay it forward!
I believe hardworking people really just want to be paid what they feel they’re worth – not what someone else tells them they’re worth. It’s got everything to do with self worth, quality of life, being able to leave real wealth behind for loved ones, and ultimately controlling their own destiny before someone else does. Some people are born poor, but everyone has the opportunity to make sure their children and grandchildren are not!
At Liberty National, we are ambassadors of an alternative career. The best way to communicate that to others is to educate people on what we do and WHY we do it. We’re in the business of changing people’s lives! Offering dignity and security to those we protect, while following a career path that allows us to build real wealth for our families, cultivates a deep sense of accomplishment and pride. Who wouldn’t want to offer that same opportunity to others? Get involved and get passionate!
It’s truly your ability to translate what LNL’s Opportunity of a Lifetime has done for you and your family that makes all the difference! That emotion, if channeled in the right direction, is the most powerful recruiting force you’ll ever need!
Personal recruiting is ACTIVE recruiting. We’re approaching people with energetic, positive attitudes, who may not be unsatisfied with their current career, but just aren’t earning what they know they’re worth! It’s all about getting into the right career vehicle. But before you do, you have to know what your desired destination is. The best way to determine if a prospective candidate is in the right career vehicle is to ASK! It’s the magnitude of your engagement and enlightenment that determines how successful you are in attracting candidates.
There are 32 million underemployed Americans in today’s workforce. That’s a LOT of people working jobs for which they’re overskilled … and probably not enjoying! These people lead lives of quiet desperation, hoping to cross paths with a new career. It’s our mission to provide the opportunity to those who want to change their lives, while gaining wealth and prosperity.
Get engaged! Seek out people who look like they have passion, confidence, and belief! Retail outlets, malls, restaurants, hotels, gyms, social networks, and professional gatherings are great places to start. Ask each candidate where they see themselves in five years, both professionally and personally, AND if their current career will get them there. If the answer is NO, then you’re up!
It’s time to enlighten people on what a great career looks like. Get plugged in and become the center of attention. personal observational unlimited recruiting (pour) is truly limitless. It’s time to make a difference! POUR your heart and soul into it and build your empire!
IT’S TIME …
Your personal imprint can be as big and bold as you desire, but it’s got to be fueled by passion and belief.

Personal Observation RecruitingBy now you know the gist of Personal Observation Recruiting. However, did you know the possibilities are virtually unLiMiTed??? Think about it. How were you recruited to Liberty National? Were you already in the insurance industry or were you looking for a change of career when a Liberty Agent swooped in and took you under his or her wing? Maybe you were a stay-at-home mom, a new college graduate, or simply in the right place at the right time when you first heard about the Opportunity of a Lifetime.
Personal Observation UNLIMITED Recruiting (POUR) proves that successful recruits can be found almost anywhere. Hair salons, grocery stores, social networks, and even professional office buildings may be the key
to growing your Branch. pour gives you the opportunity to establish a personal connection with potential recruits. Meeting a person face-to-face can make a great impression when you’re otherwise faced with a stack of paper resumes.
get creative. Think about your hobbies. Do you enjoy working out? Try talking to people you encounter at the gym. Does your daughter play in soccer tournaments on the weekends? Start chatting with the parents of her teammates. You never know where the next superstar may be waiting to discover the Opportunity of a Lifetime with Liberty National. Get out there and pour your heart out!
Great news! Liberty National has created a NEW, four-color business card design that includes many great features. Use this new design to promote your Branch website for personal recruiting initiatives.
One fantastic new feature of the redesigned business card is the ability to add your Branch website’s QR code to the back of the business card. What’s a QR code? A QR code is a barcode that represents a website. When the QR barcode is scanned with a smart phone, the assigned website loads on the smart phone. The value of QR codes is they assure the individual arrives at the correct website, versus typing in the URL or searching for it online, which can result in typos and human error. This is extremely important when using business cards for personal recruiting to ensure your recruits find the exact information desired!
Smart phone users can download a FREE QR code reader app from the Apple App Store for iPhone users, or Google Play for Android users. A recommended free QR app is QRReader.
To order: Go to www.orderprinting.com
Type in your Branch website (www.libertynational-BranchManagerLastname.com). For example, www.libertynational-blanco.com for Kathy Blanco’s Branch.
www.orderprinting.com automatically adds the appropriate QR code that corresponds with your Branch website. You can also upload your Agent photo. We recommend using your professional headshot taken at Leadership Academy. Headshots can be downloaded from www.flickr.com/libertynational.
Branch Managers: When your Agents order new business cards, encourage them to add your Branch website on their card to maximize your Branch’s recruiting opportunities. These business cards are a wonderful personal recruiting tool!

CAREER FAIRS: Six STePS TO SUCCESS!
Career Fairs are a great place to recruit – you already know attendees are looking for new careers! We’ve created a new Liberty National recruiting banner to help you advertise the Opportunity of a Lifetime. Don’t just fit in with the crowd when you can sTAnd ouT! Follow these six steps and watch the leads pour in!
Research Career Fairs and determine the events in which your Branch would like to participate. Are there any local Career
Fairs in your area? Sign up with the organizer and discuss the placement of your booth. Depending on the location of the Career Fair, advertise on Social Media (for free) and in local newspapers and newsletters as your budget allows.
Pass out brochures, other Company marketing materials, and any promotional giveaways. You want to
attract attention to your booth with colorful materials, eye-catching handouts, and professionally dressed Agents.
Bring your best recruiters and hiring Managers to the Career Fair. Meet with your team before the event to
determine what type of candidates you’re seeking and how you’re going to represent Liberty National, the position, and your Branch. Think about what attracted you to the LNL Opportunity of a Lifetime and use that method to draw attendees.
When setting up, hang a large banner that easily identifies Liberty National. Place brochures, business cards, etc.,
on the table and promotional items with the
Company name, logo, website, and phone number. Freebies like pens, key rings, magnets, and candy always attract people too.
Spend a few moments with each potential candidate who shows interest in Liberty National. Gauge each person’s
interest and determine what they’re looking for in a career. Ask for copies of resumes and be prepared to give brief Company overviews and explanations of a Liberty National insurance Agent to each interested attendee.
Encourage candidates to visit the official Liberty National sites (see new promotional materials in ‘Spice Up
Your Recruiting’ on pg. 26). Show pride in your Company – it makes a difference! Follow up with interested candidates after the Career Fair and schedule interviews – or even better, set up interviews while you have the candidate face-to-face! Building a personal connection is an important step in the recruiting routine. Remember – your career is based on selling insurance to help people. Help these career seekers out by selling them the Liberty National Opportunity of a Lifetime!

I’m excited about this year and the progress LNL will make. It’s an honor to be a part of the Council again and to be a part of leading our Company into the greatest chapter in its history. Being on the Council is important to every member of our Branch because it gives them a voice and input with our leaders. Tim Aderholt, returning council Member
This is a huge honor; it truly humbles me. I’m most excited to sit with the best of the best, share NEW ideas, and have a voice for others in the Company. I’m a team player and hope to be able to speak for more than just my Knoxville Branch; for everyone in the Company — I want us ALL to be successful. My team has worked so, so hard, and it’s showed them that all the hard work pays off, and this is just the beginning for us. This honor will push us even harder to continue to grow. We truly feel, “Its Time!”

What excites me the most about returning as a Council member is that I have seen all the ground the Company has covered over the last year and can only imagine where it will be at the end of this year. The Council strives to send out a voice that represents what is best for the Company and shareholders, the clients, and the field. I’m honored to be able to be a part of that process.
Mark Woodruff, returning council Member
Liberty National reassures me, my family, and my entire Agency that as long as you have the heart and will to make a difference, the opportunity is there. Being a Council of Champions Branch has inspired many in knowing that Liberty National recognizes hard work, and we are honored to be a part of the explosive growth Liberty will experience this year!

Looking for a way to spice up personal recruiting? We’ve created NEW, personalized QR Code recruiting cards and a flyer for each Liberty National Branch to help attract recruits. What’s a QR code, you ask? A QR code is a barcode that represents a website. When the QR code is scanned with a smart phone, the given website loads on the smart phone. For more on QR codes, check out page 12!
• Download these QR Code Recruiting Cards by going to Agent Services> Advertising> Recruiting QR Code Materials and clicking the link.
• Select your Branch and save the file to your desktop. Print out the file and take it your local printer. It’s recommended you use cardstock for the QR Code Cards.
You can hand out these personalized advertising pieces at recruiting events, to people you meet on the street, or leave them with college career centers or VA employment centers. Wanna really go gangbusters? Stick these recruiting cards on car windshields, apartment complex bulletin boards, or between the mailbox and mailbox flag at residences (it’s illegal to put them directly into mailboxes). It’s your career. Get creative!

Competitive Teamwork Creates Success!
Steve DiChiaroExecutive Vice President and Chief Agency Officer
Liberty National is a lot like your family. You work hard every day to maintain a sense of cohesiveness within your Branch as you do within your family. You rejoice in each others’ successes and always try to encourage and support each others’ activities. When someone needs guidance, you’re there to provide it. Liberty is like your family because you always want to give it your best effort.
If you are going to achieve success at home or at work, it takes cooperation and caring. You have to care enough about each other’s success to want to create it. You all have to pull together to make it happen. Whether you’re a family or a Branch team, at the center of every high performing and highly successful group is a common purpose - a mission or goal that reaches beyond each of the teams’ individual members and focuses on the team as a whole.
Successful Branches like successful families work together for mutual gain-sharing responsibility for success and failure and supporting one another on a moment’s notice. It does not mean competing against one another at the team’s expense, but competing against one another to raise the bar for success that positively impacts the entire team. Mutual gain means working as a team to energize and create power and potential above and beyond that of the individual. Most importantly, it also means capitalizing on individual strengths, offsetting individual weaknesses, and using diversity to an advantage.
You’ve probably heard the expression, “It takes all kinds.” Well, fortunately, at Liberty National, we have ‘all kinds’ with an abundance of personalities that offer up a variety of strengths and weaknesses. We can embrace and nurture the uniqueness of each individual in each Branch office and create a committed team with clear purpose and priorities.
Because we are all in the Liberty National family and on the same team, IT’S TIME to take our commitment to the next level. As I review our weekly objectives and results, I know our production is increasing week after week, but not at the rate of which we are capable. The talent within this Company is extraordinary, and I want to see each and every one of you live up to your potential personally and collectively. You want to be the best moms and dads you possibly can to give your kids the best start in life. Well,
I want you to be the best Liberty National Branch Managers, Unit Manager, AUMs, and Agents possible to give yourselves and this great Company the production you both want and deserve.
As you all know, I’m a big advocate of competition. Competition takes you out of your comfort zone; it brings out the best in you; and it creates the desire to be even better! A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to watch a youth league basketball game with a group of highly motivated 12-year-olds, who poured their hearts out to win a regular season game. I watched kids sprint up and down the court ALL game long, hang their heads if they were fouled or missed a shot, and act euphoric when they blocked a shot or stole the ball. As I watched I thought, “If our people approach this tremendous opportunity and the goals we have in place like these kids approach this basketball game, we CANNOT BE BEATEN. We can accomplish anything.”
If you aren’t already, IT’S TIME to get excited and stay excited. Remember, your Monday meetings are for inspiration and motivation. Energize and invigorate. Set goals and expectations. Get the juices of competition flowing so that everyone in your Branch knows that anything and everything is possible ... and then go out and make it happen!
I have faith in you, this Company, and what we can accomplish together. There is no doubt - IT’S TIME!!
