Parker Press Friday, January 16, 2015 Team BFF By Lamaya Marshall Parker has started a club called “Team Bully Free Forever,” BFF for short. How do you think people feel about Team BFF? I asked sixth grader Lamira Marshall how she feels about the club. "I feel that team BFF is doing a great job on preventing bullying from happening. I also believe that the president should do something about it.” I asked another student, Aleya Fields, what she thinks about Bully Free Forever. "I think that they need to keep getting progress. Also, they should see how bullying affects people, and how they commit suicide over cyber bullying. I also asked Ms. Mannes what she thinks. "I think it's a great program. Teachers do a really good job, and so do students.” Another teacher, Mrs. Morrow, said, "Oh, it's a great club!" Sixth grader Stacy Terry agrees. “Oh! That’s a raw club!” Nehemiah Ray, a seventh grader here at Parker, thinks that it is a really good club. “The name stands for the club,” he said with a big smile. A member of the team, Eniola Oyefeso, explained a little bit about Team BFF. “We create videos about what's the right thing to do and the wrong things to do to other students." So, based on my interviews, it seems that Team Bully Free Forever is a huge success here at Parker. It’s something that we really need and everybody loves. Thank you Team BFF! Green Team By Lauren Matthews The Parker Green Team has just started up and they have some information to share. Team  BFF

By Lamaya Marshall Parker has started a club called “Team Bully Free Forever,” BFF for short. Also, they should see how bullying affects people, and how they commit suicide over cyber

bullying. It’s something that we really need and

everybody loves. Thank you Team BFF!

Green Team By Lauren Matthews The Parker Green Team has just started up and they have some information to share. Green Team is led by sixth grade teacher Mrs. LeBlanc who is excited to be a part of such an amazing group. “I knew this was the perfect way for me to make a difference and have fun doing it,” she told me. The team currently has approximately twenty members helping to make our school a greener place every day. But even if you aren't one of the members

of Green Team you can still help by doing a few simple things. If you bring a lunch from home please try to bring reusable containers instead of plastic bags or other containers you throw away. However, that is not all you can do. Please recycle paper in your classroom. Every classroom has a green or blue recycle bin, so next time you think of throwing away a piece of paper, recycle it. Being green doesn’t have to just take place at school. Most people have a recycling bin in their homes. Some items that can go in it are glass, paper, some metals, magazines, junk mail, and

cardboard just to name a few. If you are unsure about what to recycle just go online and search recyclable items or ask a parent.

Riddles By Lauren Matthews Feel like giving your brain a workout? Take a look at these riddles and see if you can figure them out. Good luck! (Answers are on the last page)    1. If you have it, you want

to share it, but if you share it, you don't have it. What is it?

2. What's colorless and weightless, but if you put it into a barrel, the barrel would become lighter?

3. Scientists have proven that cats have more hair on one side then their other side. Some people believe that this is because when cats lay on their side they need insulation from the cold on the floor or ground. Which side of a cat has more hair?

4. A horse is tied to a 20 foot long rope. The horse wants to get some water that is 30 feet away. The horse gets the water easily. How is this?

5. There's a one story house that's all blue inside. The floor was blue, the lamps were blue, the walls were blue; everything was blue. So what color were the interior stairs?

6. What happens when you throw a white rock into the Red Sea?

Winter Fashion

By Summer Rouse Winter is rounding the corner, passing summer, then fall…and he crosses the finish line! The winner is winter! Winter came along quickly, so to stay away from those boot and heavy coat dilemmas, here are some good ideas. In this first picture, you see glossy lips so that your lips won't be dry. There in the background is a blue, heavy jacket, but with the sweatshirt you won't have to wear it all day. Above the book bag is a hat that is for outside only (not for inside the school building).

Another example is below. If you are planning to wear a dress, wear some leggings to keep you warm. If the dress is not long sleeved, wear a nice cachet or something of that kind. Just make sure it's finger tip length.

The last example is for when you plan to wear a skirt. It's kind of the same for the dress; wear warm leggings, finger tip length. If you wear flats, wear actual matching socks; I know, I know, it's hard but try.

Be safe, be warm, and be school appropriate this winter! See you next edition. *All fashion pictures were created by me on a website called Polyvore.

Welcome to Parker! Welcome sixth grader Alyana Mancilla to Parker Junior High! Alyana came to us from Grant School in South Chicago Heights. The school, according to Alyana, was not that big and she would stay in one room for most of the day. However, she had many friends there and she enjoyed being in school with the friends she grew up with. At Parker, Alyana loves being able to switch classes. She also likes all of her teachers. Outside of school, Alyana plays soccer and goes shopping. She loves all types of music and sports.

We are so happy to welcome Alyana Mancilla to our school District!

Interview With a Teacher: Ms. Bunnell Welcome Ms. Bunnell to Parker Junior High! Ms. Bunnell teaches 6th grade math, and although she is new to the school, she is not new to the district. When I asked Ms. Bunnell her favorite part about Parker, she responded, “Being able to see many students throughout the day is my favorite part. I also enjoy being able to

teach Math all day!” Ms. Bunnell also coaches cheerleading and will help sponsor Girls on the Run this spring. Outside of school, Ms. Bunnell enjoys yoga, running, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She listens to all music, except for country. While Ms. Bunnell is cooking or working hard grading papers, she listens to instrumental music. We welcome Ms. Bunnell to Parker, and we are lucky to have her! Answers to riddles: 1. A secret. 2. A hole. 3. The outside. 4. The other end of the

rope isn't tied to anything.

5. It is a one story house, so there are no stairs.

6. It sinks.
