THE CANON (prayed silently)

(The CANON is the most ancient part of the Mass. At the heart of the Canon is the Consecration, when bread is changed into the Sacred Body of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and wine into His Most Precious Blood, so making present on the Altar the very Sacrifice of

Christ on Calvary. It is very rich in gestures; virtually every time the offerings are mentioned, the Celebrant makes the sign of the cross over them.)
