the “Commerce Backpack Give back.” This event will be held in July
at the Commerce Fire department.
Please drop off new or gently used back packs and loose leaf paper
at the church office or in the sanctuary.

Upcoming Activities in Children's Ministry: Summer is in full swing! It’s hard to believe the kids are going back to school at the end of July! After a
VERY full June, we have so much to celebrate!
A BIG THANK YOU for your help with Vacation Bible School! We had a very
memorable and successful week with 80 children/youth and 33 adults participating!
Thank you so much to everyone who helped, prayed, donated and served! Our VBS
mission project collected over $400 for “Bags of Love” a mission of iServe ministries.
As this newsletter is being printed, we celebrate our 4th year of hosting GROW camp.
We had over 30 children participate, and we loved having this group from Glisson again this year. Many
church members donated food, snacks or scholarship money to make this week successful— thank you!
Upcoming Dates:
July 21 Promotion Sunday
August 12 Family Day at Staghorn
September 4 Wonderful Wednesday Program begins
Sunday School: Pre-School– 2nd grade, new
classes starting July 21st!
As our children are growing, our class sizes are
growing! Starting July 21st there will be a Preschool (3 years old) through Kindergarten class and a
1st/2nd grade class. By splitting the classes into smaller groups, we will be able to give the children
more individualized attention. The curriculum for each class will remain the same, and age appropriate
for each group. If you would like to help lead a class, please contact Libby Christiansen.
Sunday School: 3rd-5th Grade students, exciting changes starting July 21st!
Our 3rd through 5th grade class...big changes coming your way! We are so excited to
announce our new preteen curriculum! Be Bold! Each week we will tackle a different
question that reflects what preteens want to know and need to know. Preteens are at a
pivotal point in their faith and wrestling with what they believe. That's why BE
BOLD tackles faith questions head-on...even when the answers aren't clear.
“Spark: There is a Spark of Creation in You!” The 2019 Fall Retreat for Children in 3rd-5th grade.
Friday, Sept 13 - Sunday, Sept 15 held at Camp Glisson
If you your 3rd- 5th grader would like to attend this retreat with us this fall,
please contact Libby Christiansen ASAP to be sure we have enough spots
reserved for the group. Though most Children's ministry events are open
to all in the community that would like to attend, this event is for children
who are active in our church. This will be a time of learning, group
bonding and fellowship.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER – JULY, 2019
“The Power to Change Lives”
Did you know you have the power to change lives? If you have true faith, the
faith that comes from a heart that has been regenerated by God, you have that
power to change lives through the Holy Spirit by your good works. As it says
in James 2:26, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without
works is dead also.” “Works” is part of the “Show” part of our church’s
mission. Showing our love of God by showing God’s love to and for others.
Those with true faith seem to have a God given desire to do good works. In a
recent church newsletter article and currently on the general announcements
page of the church website there is a long list of just some of those “good works” opportunities
within our church and there are many more. I have copied that list below.
Is there not some good work you can do, would love to do, within our church or community?
Contact Kim Savage, (missions chair) or Pastor Kathy today. You DO have the power to change
lives through your good works.
Commerce First has several missional opportunities to make a difference in lives
locally and globally. Jesus, said, “Go” and we go in lots of ways. Each year we have
teams that go to do relational and medical missions work in Honduras and Guatemala;
we have individuals who take God’s grace to women in prisons, many of you offer both
financial and prayer support to our missionary family in Nepal, (Joel and
Tara Beauchamp of Glory Shiners), donations made to our Compassion Fund to help
transform lives, individuals deliver hot meals through meals-on-wheels programs, many
bring much needed donations both food and money to support our local food pantry,
some participate monthly in iServe ministries helping those who need both food and
prayers, individuals mentor and teach youth and children within our community and
beyond, many pray daily, send cards, and visit members who are no longer able to
attend church.
Where will you put your faith and your power to change lives to work?
Your servant in Christ,
Tom Murphy
