FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART

The month of May brings the blooms of spring and seasons of celebration as we honor mothers, graduates, and our loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord.

Mothers – Mothers have given each of us our start in life. Without them we simply wouldn’t be here. Mother’s

Day is Sunday, May 8th, and we will honor our mothers in the morning worship service that day.

Graduates – Graduation is a part of moving forward in life. During worship on Sunday, May 22nd we will recognize our three graduating seniors from Greenbrier East High School—Kari, Reece, and Brennan. These youth have been a part of our church for most, if not all, of their lives. We want to celebrate with them as church family members their success in this important accomplishment. After worship on May 22nd we will continue the celebration with a pot-luck meal in their honor in Fellowship Hall. Make plans to be a part of this day of worship and celebration.

Memorials – Memorial Day is about remembering those who have loved us and whom we have loved. Since I will be out of town on Memorial Day weekend, we will move our memorial service to the first Sunday in June. If you would like to honor a loved one who has passed away during this last year, please provide me with a picture for use in our service on June 5th.

A Mother’s Hope

The May Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast is cancelled since we had a Resurrection Breakfast at River of Life on April 23rd. The next Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be

Saturday, June 4th at 8am at Old Greenbrier Baptist.

Three years ago, contemporary Christian musician Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth faced the sudden death of their youngest daughter, Maria, in a driveway accident. In the book Choosing to See: A Journey of Struggle and Hope (Revell), Mary Beth Chapman describes how she wrestled with God when her “whole world” fell apart.

“What I’ve found is that it’s in the most unlikely times and places of hurt and chaos that God gives us a profound sense of his presence and the real light of his hope in the dark places,” she writes.

AMA Summer Work TeamsOur Alderson Ministerial Association (AMA) will sponsor three work teams in our community this summer. Representatives of the UCC Southbury Team will be in Alderson April 29 – May 1 to survey work sites and facilities. Be in prayer as these teams plan and prepare for the work they will do in Alderson this summer. The three teams are:

United Church of Christ Southbury, CT – This group will be with us from June 25th – July 1st. They will be our largest group ever at one time. They come with a team of 60 youth and adults. They are led by John Bucciarelli, a retired Army Major and professional General Contractor. This church takes its youth group on a missions construction trip each year. They are seasoned veterans who come with fifteen vans, their own tools, supplies, and a lot of know-how and experience.

Success is failure turned inside out,The silver tint on the clouds of doubt,And you can never tell how close you are,It may be near when it seems afar. So, stick to the fight when you’re hardest hitIt’s when things go wrong that you mustn’t quit.
