presented the Company-wide objectives for 2014 on January 6 at the Training Center.

The presentation kicked-off with an introduction of the Tsuneishi Group Companies’ businesses in Shipbuilding, Shipping and Environment & Service. PRESIDENT

HITOSHI KONOTSUNEISHI HOLDINGS (CEBU), INC.TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), INC.

The early part of 2013 was a turning point for the shipbuilding industry as

demand for ship production resulting to the drop in the market price for some of our locations. Negotiations on new shipbuilding finally yielded a few orders in 2013 with 30 ships expected to be delivered in 2016 and 2017.

Amidst this crisis, we successfully completed and delivered 16 ships in 2013; Twelve (12) 58,000 deadweight metric ton type Handymax bulk carrier ships; three (3) 180,000 deadweight metric ton type cape-size bulker ships; and one 82,000 deadweight metric ton type Kamsarmax bulker.

Our contributions to the

country’s economy and especially to the community were commended through several awards and recognitions. The Outstanding Exporter Award and the Outstanding Community Project for 2012 were awarded to us by PEZA for the second time. We also received from the Bureau of Customs-Cebu a recognition as the No. 1 Top Export Performer in the port of Cebu, a similar award we received in 2012. Our strong commitment to environmental protection and compliance is recognized through three recognitions received; (1) For complying with the water quality standards, (2) For acquiring the permit to operate/air, and (3) For adopting a portion of the Buanoy creek in line with the Adopt-an-Estero donor partner. Such awards would not have been possible if it were not for our employees’

efforts and pro-activeness, as well as our ship-owners and business partners’ trust. There are a lot that we can be grateful for despite all the challenges.

As 2014 begins, we need to take a bold step towards meeting long-term challenges. As we set to complete 20 ships this year, we have made major changes in three important areas; (1) Cost Control, (2) Work Design, and (3) Systematic Education, focusing mainly on the production’s critical challenges. I entrust leaders, along with everyone to stay on top of the situation. With this, I look forward for a more positive result this year.

This year, is also a reason to celebrate as the company celebrates its 20th year on November 30. This is an achievement in itself and marks as an important milestone for us, our employees, customers and business partners as we set and achieve our future goals.

We celebrate and take pride in being the pioneer in shipbuilding industry in the Philippines for medium to large range size ships and for being one of the major players in making the country the 4th largest shipbuilding hub in the world. Since the company’s inception in 1994 we have built 171 ships as of December 2013. Looking back 20 years ago, this world-class workmanship was made possible by 300 Japanese staffs and 15 Filipino engineers who collaborated and achieved an astonishing feat in Cebu’s shipbuilding industry which in one way or another lead to a significant breakthrough for foreign investments.

As we celebrate another year with our employees, customers and business partners, we want to let you know how much we appreciate your dedication and loyalty. Cheers to a year of success!

Reflect, ReinfoRce and Reinvent to build up ouR bRand

2013 has been a very challenging year for TTSP. While we had launched our slogan “Designing beyond borders” of which the entire organization endeavored to widen its design competencies and capabilities

with a shared commitment to build our BRAND in terms of Quality, we fell short from our measured objectives.

While product and process improvement is a continuous aspiration, TTSP as an organization must REFLECT from its flaws and failures. We all

need to learn from our mistakes; We also need to REINFORCE

the ways and initiatives that we have done right, as well as the systems which turned out to be effective. We need to REINFORCE the proper way of executing our procedures or anything effective for that matter

that produces favorable results; To BUILD UP our BRAND,

we must REINVENT uu

“WE NEED TO TAKE A BOLD STEP TOWARDS MEETING LONG-TERM

CHALLENGES.”

“WE MUST BUILD UP OUR BRAND ON

EXECUTIVE OFFICER

ALEX ALASCOASIAN CRAFT (CEBU.), INC.

The new types / model of ships which were introduced last year were the constraints that affected the production of some departments in ACCI factories. Despite these, ACCI had attained beyond the targeted 5% manhour reduction objective for 2013. IS Block rejections were decreased to .16% only last year from the .49% recorded in 2012. Number of NK A3Z qualified welders has increased from 26

welders in 2012 and reaching 107 certified NK A3Z welders as of the end of last year.

ACCI’s 2014 objectives are set to be aligned with the vision and strategic goals of the entire Tsuneishi Group of Companies. In order to cope with the 20% reduction on the price set per ton, we are aiming to conserve consumables and indirect costs, reduce misallocations of resources, control overtime necessities, reduce

man-hours in all factories, recycle consumables, improve quality of finished products by conducting re-orientation on quality workmanship so as to offset stagnation by decreasing if not eliminating repairs, regularize maintenance of tools and equipment and schedule monthly monitoring on financial and production status.

It is generally believed that objectives are met if goals are being prioritized consistently

for optimal team collaboration and effective operations.

Asian Craft (Cebu), Inc. with the joint efforts of the whole ACCI composition is positive that we will be able to achieve this year’s objectives.

MANAGING DIRECTOR

SILVINO OLIAMOTK&A METAL INDUSTRIES, INC.

One of the key highlights that happened in K&A in 2013 was the assignment by THI of two (2) new factories, the C1 & C3 factories. As of today we are on the normalization of its operations.

Production cost has decreased by 30% going above and beyond our target of 5%. This is the result of the stringent controls we put in place to monitor our consumables and

tool costs. On the quality aspect, we

also have a good result in 2013 and we intend to continue our program of continuous education for our sub-con workers.

Production-wise, our outfitting production increased considerably. This was strengthened by our acquisition of six (6) units of outfitting machines from Japan.

We have also exceeded our target production assigned to us by THI in our Hull Fabrication and Sub-assembly Departments. Likewise, our Tbeam Department realized its surplus production of 1,600

tons.Despite the feat in cost

reduction, we still aim to further reduce our production cost by 8% as against 2013. We plan to do this by continuing to improve the skills of our department managers in terms of department cost control. Each department has a definite and clear budget wherein to operate efficiently and effectively.

We will continue the education of our sub-con workers to make them fully understand the importance of quality. This we intend to do by equipping our QC personnel the needed skills and knowledge for them to impart to our sub-con

workers. We will also require our sub-con workers to continuously involve themselves to THI’s training programs through the THI Training Center.

We also aim for an increased surplus from our targets; Sub-assembly, Hull Fabrication, Outfitting and Tbeam Factory.

With respect to DELIVERIES, we will make it a goal for our production schedules to be in sync with what is required of us by THI.

In terms of ensuring safety in the workplace, an inculcation of the primacy of the “Safety First” policy is a must to all our employees and sub-con workers.

“INCULCATION OF THE PRIMACY OF THE ‘SAFETY FIRST’ POLICY IS A

MUST TO ALL OUR EMPLOYEES AND SUB-CON WORKERS.”

“OBJECTIVES ARE MET IF GOALS ARE BEING PRIORITIZED CONSISTENTLY

FOR OPTIMAL TEAM COLLABORATION AND EFFECTIVE OPERATIONS.”

uu ourselves by becoming better people, by becoming BETTER and TRUE Leaders and Managers, better Engineers and Support Staff, and by becoming better corporate Employees.

We must build up our BRAND on QUALITY.

In the current Ship Design, Shipbuilding and Shipping market situation, where market

prices are jeopardizing Design and Shipbuilding costs, Quality becomes even more critical and vital and Quality becomes a compelling differentiator across competition.

Quality is the key to business survival.

I firmly believe that positive change starts from each one of us, CHANGE starts from the Individual. We can transform

our organization in the way we wanted it to be by being more INVOLVED, becoming more PROACTIVE and by GIVING OUR SHARE in terms of commitment and accountability.

Let us therefore work together as a group of Filipinos, as the new Global Filipinos to improve our QUALITY and build up our Tsuneishi Brand.

With my firm belief in the

capabilities of the Filipinos in overcoming adversities and difficulties, I know we can be a great Engineering, Ship Design or a Shipbuilding organization to reckon with in the global arena.

All the best from this year 2014! “Issho ni gambarimashou!”

PRESIDENT

SHINJI OKADATSUNEISHI ACCOMMODATION (CEBU), INC.

Three years ago, when I took my current post, I decided to implement ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management System in order to better focus the efforts of our organization and to improve the skill base of our workforce.

Recently we earned our 1st

ISO 14001:2004 Certification after its Environmental

Management System (EMS) that is applicable to Manufacturing and Outfitting of Accommodation blocks for vessels as we passed the certification audit of Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Japan (LRQA).

After more than one year of preparation through orientation and trainings, from stage 1 to stage 2 Assessment (Documentation to Internal Auditing stage), our hard work paid-off.

It’s all thanks to the effort and support of our respected employees. I believe we could

reach our goals by having everyone focus on the same goals.

This is such a big development for the company for future risk avoidance and continual improvement to ensure quality services to our customers.

This year, I’d like to brush up TAC-EMS and improve the quality of the accommodation module by establishing the idea of loss control as our basic policy; which is the original purpose of ISO14001.

Additionally, I am setting the expectation that our

department will achieve each priority target of Quality-Cost-Delivery-Safety +Environment, which is the idea of composing the basis of our business goal. I’m going to make this established as the method of production control which makes the efficiency of our practical business.

At last, I’d like to emphasize the need to work towards the same direction. We need to work together. We need to make the new system to improve our personnel management and improve employee motivation.

PRESIDENT

TAKAHIKO HIRAGATSUNETETSU (CEBU), INC.

Although TCI has made important efforts in 2013 when the control of material’s delivery and quality was adapted as the significantly tasked plan outlined for us, unfortunately, it was not carried out as planned in some departments. With such results, we recognize the need for

fundamental reforms.

The forecast for fiscal 2014 profit rate decreased due to the decrease of ship price, with this present course, similar effects will likely occur in the future. Given this situation, we lined-up important strategies for 2014. We will eliminate vaguely existing materials and immediately

organize things by taking into account the feedback of our customers in order to improve our skill level. At the same time, we’ll evaluate and improve the plans drawn up in 2013 in order that PDCA can be facilitated without difficulty through incorporating it into the plans of 2014. TCI will be mapping out a strategy on our envisagement

in the forthcoming year, 2015 and 2016, so as to continue the foundations of the business.

“WE NEED TO WORK TOWARDS THE SAME DIRECTION. WE NEED

TO WORK TOGETHER.”

“WE’LL EVALUATE AND IMPROVE THE PLANS DRAWN

UP IN 2013 IN ORDER THAT PDCA CAN BE FACILITATED

WITHOUT DIFFICULTY THROUGH INCORPORATING IT INTO THE

PLANS OF 2014.”

COMPANY OBJECTIVESuwithout compromising the quality of our products, and to uphold the core values of the company.

The Cost Control Committee was established to reinforce the 2014 budget through Cost Saving Patrol. The committee is spearheaded by the General Manager of Factory Cost Control & Planning Department Engr. Ramil Roa, as Chairman of committee under Direct/Indirect Materials and General Manager of Factory

Support Department Engr. Charlie Ombao, as Chairman of committee under Power, Gases, Fuel, and Repair & Maintenance.

The said committee will make efforts to raise awareness and change the mind-set of the staffs to work together as a team in streamlining the cost in a more proactive manner through constant QC activities (Kaizen activities).

Deputy General Manager Engr. Alan Yee of Production Planning Department

introduced to the body the Work Design Project. He emphasized its importance and purpose of helping the company in identifying ideal cost consumptions, potential savings, and new ideas for improvement. Engr. Rey Aniñon, General Manager of Pre-Outfitting Project supported the presentation with data and reports on pre-outfitting schedule and works.

Work Design is to make a detailed plan for stages in ship building, emphasizing features

such as block appearance, work convenience, and efficient functions. The Work Design Project will be spearheaded by Production Planning Engr. Ryan Joseph Reyes and assisted by Engrs. Ronald Caraig and Michael Dela Torre.

The event was concluded by Factory General Manager Shigeru Kamifuji, encouraging everybody to do their part in achieving the objectives set for 2014 together as a team.

DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER RENIELDO ZAMBOBY DERALYN RAMOS

“No one is perfect, but a mistake repeatedly done is foolishness.” says Deputy General Manager of Tsuneishi Accommodation (Cebu), Inc., Mr. Renieldo Zambo.

This great leader was born on September 20, 1964 and graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

Married to Mrs. Edwina Zambo, a public school teacher, he is blessed with 2 boys, Karl Reuben 15 and Kir Ralph 13. Mr. Zambo is a home buddy, loves music, and prefers spending his time with his family. He lives in Mandaue City, too far away from his workplace if you ask me. He says, “Balancing work and family is a little bit complicated for we only stay together during weekends. There were times where I missed some family activities, but I believe that it is important to take your job seriously as this can lead you to a fulfilling life and an engaging career while keeping your family

close by spending unrivaled quality time with them even on a limited time.” He explains that both a fulfilling career and family are important pillars of life. It should not be a choice between teaching our children by showing good examples and taking pride and doing good in the work we do. He normally advises his team members who are fond of making excuses from work for a simple affair, “If You Love your Family; Love Your Work and Yourself.”

At the age of 26, Sir Renie started his career with PICOP (Paper Ind. Corp. of the Phil) in Bislig, Surigao as Instrument Technician in the year 1990. In 1992-1997 he transferred to Metaphil as Field Engineer to Planning Engineer and then to K&A Metal Industries, Inc. in 1997-2011 as Planning Supervisor, Environmental and Safety In-charge to Hull Fabrication (Sub/Assembly) Superintendent. In 2011 to current, he works with Tsuneishi Accommodation (Cebu), Inc. as

the Deputy General Manager. Stability and security made him join Tsuneishi. As a well-known Japanese firm he trusts that this company will provide greater opportunities for him.

With his experience at K&A he introduced a system of planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting. He was the In-charge of Special Projects from feasibility study, design, budgeting and implementation to the most projects & developments. “Conversion to Semi-Automatic B-up (T-Beam) manufacturing from manual M-Jig is truly significant for me, I consider it an innovation, and I see the positive results. Six out of the 16 years I worked in Tsuneishi Group, I spent helping THI with its Expansion Project by supervising in the construction of their major landmark projects namely Slipway 2, Factory buildings, pavement concreting, sea dredging, THI Hotel, THI/TTSP admin office, Japanese and Filipino staffhouses, Phase 4 Graving Dock construction & etc. It was in fact a great experience and I’m thankful to THI Management for trusting my capabilities and giving me the chance to be part of it. My current job in Tsuneishi Accommodation is truly a challenging and tough one.”

TAC activity is a long and continuous process and in order

to have a smooth workflow, careful review on process, planning and scheduling is a necessity.

“One important role of a manager is to motivate our workers thru effective communication and recognizing their achievements and mistakes. We establish training plans based on their areas of improvement and help them work on that. One vital thing is customer satisfaction. How? Just know your customer then please them. We acquired our ISO 14001, Environmental Management System (EMS) certificate from Llyod’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) late last year. This is a big development for me and my co-workers. It will definitely result to the improvement of the company in the long run. The success of the company together with the growth of its workers is always been the vision of a leader. I strongly believe in the PDCA cycle. Now we focus on CHECK-ACT-PLAN and DO. With this right tool our goal of continual improvement in QCDS (Quality Cost Delivery Safety) will no doubt be ACHIEVED,” Mr. Zambo said.

As a leader, he faces challenges with positivity as for him, challenges and setbacks are all part of the day’s job. Without these then it just would not be a job at all. He understands that he must be ready to take on whatever problems he will face and for this he keeps his mind and body healthy. Most importantly, he believes nothing beats trusting himself and the God from above.

“NO ONE IS PERFECT, BUT A MISTAKE REPEATEDLY DONE IS FOOLISHNESS.”
