QuickStart Team Tennis Dazzles Center Court

Nearly 40 boys and girls age 10 and under played in the QuickStart division atthe 2010 Maryland JTT State Tournament. This year all teams who competedwill advance to the 2010 USTA/Mid-Atlantic Jr. Team Tennis Sectionals at theUniversity of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., on August 13-15, 2010.For many, this was their first ever tournament experience, made all the more funby playing on a team with their friends.

In the 8 and under open division, three teams competed on 36' courts. The TCCPTigers took first place. The Howard County Purple team took second place andthe Carroll County Panthers placed third.

In the 10 and under intermediate division, the Howard County Raiders defeatedthe St. Mary's County White team. In QuickStart Tennis, this age group steps uptheir game to play doubles and singles on a 60' court.

In the 10 and under advanced division, the TCCP Terrapins will move on to showtheir stuff at Sectionals in August.

The fall Jr. Team Tennis season begins in September and with QuickStart, it'seasy and fun for kids as young as age 5 or 6 to take up tennis as a team sport. It'sa perfect fit for elementary after school programming, whether played on commu-nity courts or in a school gymnasium.

If you would like to learn more about starting a league of your own, contactTennis Service Rep, Lynn Gertzog, at [email protected]. Training andequipment support is provided for all new coordinators

A Note About the Benefits of QuickStart Tennis:QuickStart brings kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shortercourt dimensions, and net height, plus modified scoring, all tailored to age andsize. In letting kids "play to learn" with their contemporaries, they have more funwhile learning and developing skill.

QuickStart Fits Better So Kids Hit Better: • Kids struggle to cover a full size court, particularly with regulation balls. Asmaller court in conjunction with slower and lower-bouncing balls lets kids get tomore balls. • The QuickStart Tennis scoring system is simple, helping kids understand thestructure of the game and making it easy for them to keep track of the competi-tion as it unfolds. • Kids have better control by using racquets that are proportionate in length andweight and have a grip that fits their smaller hands.
