OFFICIAL PLAYOFF TENNIS BALL Wilson Racquet Sports has graciously entered into an agreement with the CIF-San Diego Section. Wilson will be providing all the section playoff tennis balls and will be the official tennis ball for the 2014 CIFSDS Girls’ Tennis Playoffs. 2. QUALIFYING Team There will be four playoff divisions in the San Diego CIF Girls’ Team Championships Open, 1, 2 and 3. Each league champion (not co-champion or tri-champion) shall be guaranteed entry. The CIFSDS Permission to Compete in Team and Individual Championships form must be submitted and approved via CIF Home by midnight October 22, 2014 to be eligible. The form may also be found on the CIFSDS website under Girls Tennis and Misc. Forms.

4. DATES, SITES, TIMES Tennis Team Playoffs- Kevin Brown Tournament Director

school with the higher seed. Courts may be those of the home school. Starting time 2:30 p.m.

Division I, II, III Quarterfinals Open Division Semifinals October 29 - Home site determination shall be made by the

school with the higher seed. Courts may be those of the home school. Starting time 2:30 p.m.

Division I, II, III Semifinals Open Division Final @ Barnes Open 3rd&4th Playoff @ Barnes October 30 – Home site determination shall be made by the

school with the seed. Courts maybe those of home school. Starting time - 2:30 p.m.

No San Diego Section tennis team or individual will be permitted to compete unless wearing matching school shirt (may be T-shirt) and shorts or dresses/skirts of a common color. Players shall be dressed identically (doubles teams must be dressed identically, including stripes or patterns on shorts). Team or individuals will default from tournament when discovered in illegal uniform (Green Book – Article 270 Special Rules (page 60).

6. FORMAT Team - Round Robin: Each participant plays Singles or Doubles but not both. Scoring will be one point

for each Singles and one point for each Doubles match won. Ties in match scoring will be resolved by counting games won in Singles and Doubles. If a tie should still exist, sets won in Doubles will determine the winning team. Matches will be one set of regular scoring against each opponent with a 12-point tie breaker played when any set is tied six games each.

Individual - All matches will be the best two out of three sets with regular scoring in Singles and Doubles. A 12-point tie breaker will be used whenever a set reaches a 6-6 score. No player may compete in both Singles and Doubles. Both players on a Doubles team must be from the same school.

7. SEEDING – Conducted by Evi Valles ( Tournament Director) Kevin Brown (Seeding Chair)

Team - Four teams each in Division I, II, and III team tournaments will be seeded, without regard to league champions, by the Commissioner’s Office using CIFSDS power rankings as a guide with input from the CIFSDS Girls’ Tennis Seeding Committee. The seeding meeting for the Team playoffs will be held on Thursday, October 23, 6:30 p.m., Cathedral Catholic- Assisi Lecture Hall. Teams must submit their CIFSDS playoff entry via cifsdshome.org by midnight Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Only advisory committee members shall be permitted to vote during the seeding process. NOTE: The CIFSDS advisory committee will break ties, make sure league champs are entered, check the accuracy of the rankings, and identify head to head wins and losses if teams are ranked consecutively. Individual - The top one-fourth of the draw in singles and doubles may be seeded by the Commissioner’s Office with input from the Advisory Committee. The remainder of the entries will be drawn at random. The seeding meeting for the Individual Tournament will be held on Thursday, November 6, 5:30 p.m., Cathedral Catholic High School, Assisi Lecture Hall. Only members of the Advisory Committee shall be permitted to vote during the individual seeding process. Format of the matches will be:

First round thru semi-finals will be best of two tiebreak sets with a match tiebreak to decide The match in the event of split sets.

The singles and doubles finals will be best of three tiebreak sets.

Scoring will be ad-scoring unless modified by the Advisory Committee. NOTE: Coaches must attend seeding meeting to properly ensure that accurate information is presented. NOTE: Entry fees for individual tournament due by November 15. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the 2014 Individual Tournament (school PO or check only). LEAGUE REPRESENTATIVES: Prior to the seeding meetings, please gather the following: 1. Completed forms (first and last names and grade level for singles and doubles players) for your

league entries into the Individual Tournament (forms will be sent to you in the individual seeding meeting notice).

2. Information provided to you by coaches that will aid the seeding process. 3. All coaches must email individual players’ names and current rankings to Kevin Brown at

[email protected] by Wednesday, November 5. 4. Criteria for Seeding Meetings - To reduce the amount of time needed to select at-large entries and

seed the individual tournaments, the advisory committee has established the following criteria (in rank order) for singles, doubles, and at-large selections:

Singles (in priority order) a. Southern California

Ranking b. Direct Wins

1. Two out of three. 2. Most recent singles

set. 3. Singles set win. 4. Coin flip.

Doubles a. Direct Wins

1. Two out of three.

2. Most recent doubles set.

3. Doubles set win. 4. Coin flip.

At-Large a. Direct Wins

1. Two out of three.

2. Most recent set. 3. Set win. 4. Coin flip

8. STATE CIF RULE 309 In accordance with State CIF Rule 309, athletes will not be permitted to check in at the San Diego CIF

Team or Individual Tournaments without being accompanied by a coach or supervisor designated by the school principal. The Tournament Director or Match Director will strictly enforce this requirement. The following penalties shall be invoked for failure of athletes or coaches/ (school designated supervisors) to appear on time:

If late for match 5 minutes or less - loss of toss plus one game.

5:01 to 10 minutes late - loss of toss plus two games.

10:01 to 15 minutes late - loss of toss plus three games.

More than 15 minutes late - match will be defaulted.

SCHOOL DESIGNATED SUPERVISORS (OTHER THAN HEAD VARSITY COACHES) MUST CHECK IN WITH THE TOURNAMENT OR MATCH DIRECTOR WITH A SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP (ATTACHED TO COACH’S COPY OF THIS BULLETIN). (NOTE: The permission slips are not to be forwarded to the CIFSDS Office.)

9. WARM-UPS Warm-ups on the court will be confined to a period of five minutes including serves. Coaches will be called upon by the Tournament Management to supervise courts during the warm-up period.

10. OTHER RULES

No new match to start after 6:00 p.m.

Time between matches is 20 minutes.

If a match goes more than three (3) hours, the break times will be at the discretion of the tournament director.

11. CLEAN-UP Each team shall be responsible for the clean-up of its own bench area immediately following the

contest.
