Drop Off Area
Several parents are entering the Drop Off Zone and
stopping in the parking bay when dropping off their
children. They then reverse or enter the flow of
traffic in the Drop Off Zone.
This is a dangerous practice as children are often in
the area, and we ask that all parents and families use
the area as it was intended to be used, without
disrupting the flow of cars through the zone.
Please do not use the parking bay for
picking up or dropping off children.
Our School Crossing Supervisors have also
reported that there are quite a few families
parking on the school crossing to drop children
off, particularly in Summit Avenue. Details will
now be taken by the Supervisors and passed
onto authorities.
School Photos
School photos will be taken on Monday 22nd
May. All students are to wear correct uniform and
make sure they bring along their big smiles!
PLEASE NOTE: Photo envelopes are to be
brought to school on photo day ONLY
Victorian Premier’s
Reading Challenge The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now
open and Oak Park Primary School is excited to be
participating.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from
birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of
reading for literacy development. It is not a
competition; but a personal challenge for children
to read a set number of books by 8 September
2017.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to
read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and
teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are
challenged to read 15 books.

like your child‘s name to appear on the Honour Roll,
please sign the attached form and return it to your
classroom teacher.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
On Wednesday the 10th of May, the
Foundation students hosted a Mother’s Day
Afternoon Tea for their beloved mums. As the
students have been learning about different
types of Transport this term, they decided to
create a healthy ‘Snack Art’ afternoon tea in
the theme of a vehicle. Students used various
vegetables along with a combination of
biscuits and crackers to create an edible
piece of artwork such as a car, truck or train!
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents
who attended, it was a great afternoon!

Walk Safely to School Day
Friday 19h May is Walk Safely to School Day! Now
in its 18th year, National Walk Safely to School Day
is an annual event where all Primary School
children are encouraged to walk and commute
safely to school.
Walk to School Safely Day is an initiative that is
designed to:
• Re-enforce safe pedestrian behaviour
amongst children.
• Promote the health benefits of walking and
help create regular walking habits at an
early age.
• Help children develop the vital road-
crossing skills they will need, as they
become mature pedestrians.
• Reduce car dependency habits that are
being created at an early age.
• Reduce the level of air pollution created by
motor vehicles. We hope you can all join
us by safely walking to school on 19 May

Grade 1/2 News On Monday the 22nd of May, the Grade 1 and
2 students will be welcoming baby chicks into
our classrooms! We are excited to be
participating in the Henny Penny Hatching
Program, where incubators and eggs will be
living in our classrooms. The students will
observe and learn about the life cycle and
appropriate care for chickens as the eggs
hatch.
Once the chicks are ready, families who have
appropriate structures in place will adopt our
chickens. The students will be putting together
information packs to go to the new homes of
our class chickens, to inform the families of
how to best care for the chickens. Any
chickens that are not adopted, will be going
to live at the Kyneton Poultry Association in a
free-range environment.
Thanks from the 1/2 Team
Sustainability
WAR ON WASTE
In Sustainability, the grade 3 and 4 students
have been working on the concept of being
responsible consumers, in terms of reducing
environmental impact. There’s a great show
on ABC on Tuesday night at 8.30pm called
‘War On Waste’ which talks about many of
the issues we’ve been exploring – well worth a
look to see what you can do at home too!
Here’s the website in case you would like to

Japanese News Thank you to all the parents/guardians who
have paid for the Japanese Incursion. It is very
exciting, as we are getting closer to
“Japanese Day”!
This is another reminder for students who have
not yet paid for the Japanese Incursion. The
payment for the incursion was due last Friday.
This is a wonderful and rare opportunity for our
students to see a professional and famous
Japanese comedian. Please ensure that
payment is made by this Friday the 19th
May at the latest. Unfortunately, if your
student does not pay by the 19th, they will not
be able to attend the performance and will
instead complete another activity.
Also, start to think about creative costumes for
Japanese Day which is the 9th June.
Remember there is a prize for the best
dressed. Thank you to everyone for your
support!
