I am an engineer and I am the commander of the fire

brigade

The Department of firefighters, public rescue and civil defense

(Dipartimento dei Vigili del Fuoco, del Soccorso Pubblico e della Difesa Civile) is composed by

eight central directorates, eighteen regional offices and one hundred provincial commands,

with around eight hundred stations throughout the country

The italian national Fire Corps is part of the Department that depends on the

Ministry of the Interiors.


A nationwide organitation with more than 35000 professionals and volunteer units

Probably the largest professional Fire and rescue

organization in the world

The italian national Fire Corps has the duty to assure the urgent technical rescue, even in events in which non-conventional

substances are involved and to carry out fire prevention services.


The italian national Fire Corps initially fragmented in various municipal bodies, was

established as such by the Royal Decree of 27 February 1939, later converted into Law 1570 of December 27, 1941, and was initially called "to

protect the personal safety and the salvation of things, by preventing and extinguishing fires and

the provision of technical services in general, including those related to air defense.“

Every day, every night, firefighters are ready to intervene to rescue people, to safeguard assets, to

protect the environment.

The rapid response, expertise and experience gained from previous activities of civil protection are essential for the relief of people affected by natural

disasters or major disaster.

The National Fire Corps has been working alongside with the children since 1989,

when it received the appointment of "goodwill

ambassador" from the Italian Committee for UNICEF.


The department of Fire and Rescue Services and Civil Defense has 8 Central

Directorates in Romeand 18 Regional Directorates

More than 1500 Senior Techinical Offices with a degree in Engineering,

Architecture, Geologyor a High school Tecnical Diploma in

industrial Processes or Building Construction


There is a complete practicality between each Provincial Department since they are part of the same Organitation with same

standards, same comunication, same training, same equipment.

The Fire and rescue service are provided by the 101 Provincial Department with

more fire stations.

International cooperation:


Central schools (“Scuole Centrali Antincendi”, “Scuola di Formazione Operativa” and “Istituto Superiore Antincendi”) ensure admittance training, ongoing updates

and specialization for the whole staff. In particular training courses are dedicated to operators, administrative personnel and technical staff; specialization courses are provided for divers, port personnel, helicopter pilots, radio repairmen. Also, schools are responsible for training firefighting units in armed forces and authorized government agencies


The institution of the schools:• Schools Central Fire Prevention

is in charge of training for entry, qualification and specialization of all

personnel of CNVV.F


But activities are not limited to internal training. National Fire Corps are territorially in charge of training courses for which, under specific provisions of law, are

the authorized trainer for the following figures:

1)workers in charge of fire prevention, firefighting measures and staff evacuation procedures;2)fire officers in industrial production plants;3) prevention and protection service authorities;4) employers;5) safety workers’ representatives;


The National Fire Brigade provides for the preparation:

in the field of fire prevention


Since 1990, the National Fire Corps has also the presence of women in the operational area
