As I was unable to be at our last meeting, I apparently missed one of our best ever speakers. But I certainly heard about the quality of her presentation and her compassion for all people regardless of their race and beliefs. It must be a wonderful and rewarding experience to sail on the Mercy Ships. Congratulations and thank you to Carolyn who never fails to find us very interesting speakers. This leads me to ask our members to think about participating in the activities of our Club. We have many volunteers who take care of our entertainment and comfort. They need help - they need understudies who can take over if one is absent. In the next few months I will give a brief description of what each of our volunteers does in the hope that some of us may be able to assess if they can help. FROM OUR ROVING REPORTER:

(Thank you to Peter O’Loughlin for his contribution this month. Linda)

Day Trip to Wollongong Science Centre – Friday 21st June 2019

‘Twas a cool and invigorating morning when a small group of Probus Club members and friends assembled for our regular monthly coach trip.

That day we were going back to our old school days (well University anyway) … the Science Centre in Fairy Meadow is part of the Campus of the Wollongong University.

Our coach trip with Donna at the helm included a break for morning tea at Sublime Point and the view was crystal clear over the Illawarra region with nary a cloud in sight.

The trip from Narellan also included a slight detour to South Africa as Donna told us about the recent holiday that Keith and she had visiting many of the sights in South Africa.

From our morning tea stop we proceeded down Mt Ousley to the Science Centre.

After an astronomy “lesson” and time in lab with Liquid Nitrogen, we were given the chance to explore (hands-on) many of the exhibits … mind you there was sharing, as two school groups were also present on the day at the Science Centre.

We then adjourned to the Fraternity Club (a new lunch venue for us). Finally seated, we had our lunches delivered to the table, so large were the meals some even had “doggy” bags to take something home for dinner.

On our return to Narellan we drove along what was once the Princes Highway through the northern suburbs of Wollongong then up Bulli Pass.

All things considered not a bad way to spend a cool Winter’s day.
