Be On Time and Shine

We have noticed that there are a number of students arriving at school after the 9am bell has gone. Our classroom doors are open at 8.50am and this is the perfect time to come inside and prepare for the day ahead. We request that all students arrive on time every day. Late students not only miss vital social time, they can miss important instruction and information and often interrupt the learning of those students who arrived on time.

I have attached an article in this newsletter about the importance of being on time.

Premiers Reading Challenge 2018

Once again we are participating in the PRC. It is a great opportunity for our students to read many books, have a great time and receive a certificate for their effort. Please collect a notice from the office of you would like to participate.

The Advantages of Being on Time vs. Being Late to School

Written by Bill Reynolds

Though the early-morning buzzer of an alarm clock (or a smartphone alarm app) can be one of the worst sounds in the world to a student, repeatedly muffling it via "snooze" button is never a good idea. Showing up on time to high school school each day bene-fits students' academic performance and future professional habits. Students who arrive at school early have an advantage over classmates who stumble through the door after class has begun. Consistent unexcused tardiness can mean short-term penalties and lifelong consequences. Students are well-advised to learn not just the advantages of showing up early but also the pitfalls of showing up late. Enjoy More Time to Prepare Students arriving to school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, preparing their class materials and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. They have all the time they need to literally and figuratively wake up. Showing up on time can ameliorate the often-jarring transitioning between sleepy rides on a bus to concentrating on the day’s first lessons. Students showing up to class in the middle of a lesson miss out on this natural transition period and may lose even more of the lesson as they scurry to settle into an academic focus. This ultimately contributes to the lower grades and graduation rates associated with chronic tardi-ness. Never Miss Important Information Arriving to school after classes have begun can cause students to miss more than just the introduction to a new lesson. While waiting for the "tardy bell" to ring, teachers often share important information: reminders of upcoming quizzes, class trips, new classroom rules, essay due dates and other school-related specifics. Students who show up late may miss out on these details and as a result, be unprepared for some future class event. While a teacher will likely reiterate crucial information throughout the day, latecomers may miss out on courtesy reminders about homework assignments and other projects. Students who show up on time everyday can rest assured they have all the necessary information. Develop Positive Lifelong Habits Arriving late to school on a consistent basis can have longer-term academic effects. If showing up late to school becomes a habit, students may develop the notion that tardiness is acceptable behavior. This belief can negatively impact their future work ethic and employment opportunities. Alternatively, showing up on time to school everyday can help students develop of the habit of being punctual with important commitments. This habit can serve students well through college and into their future careers

Far Out! Can you help make our 2017 Music Trivia Night

Fundraiser as successful as last year?? Sat 26th August is our annual Music Trivia Night (Bring on the 70s!). Last year, we not only raised the roof, but also raised $9000 which went to our Grounds Beautification Project. This year we are aiming for $10,000. All money raised goes directly to the school to fund initia-tives that benefit every one of our students. To hit this target we need looking for donations of amazing raffle, silent auction and major auction prizes. If you, or people you know, have connections with businesses that could make a donation we would love to hear from you. Can you dig it? Great prize ideas are dinner vouchers, wine, crock pots, spa treatments, accommodation, la-va lamps, merchandise, beauty products, anything macramé, sports equipment, sport activities, disco balls etc. We heavily promote all businesses on the night and through the school’s newsletter and face book page. Please contact Jackie Monteith 0403861558 or Sharyn Johnston 0438575579 if you are able to assist. You can also hand donations directly to Julie in the school office. Catch you on the flip side & many thanks in advance
