What is a Motherboard?
• Nickname: mobo
• It is where all the major components of a
computer are attached.
• It is also called the main or system board.
Motherboard Functions The motherboard is the circuit board to which all the
other components of the computer connect in some way.
Houses the CPU. Allow all devices to communicate with the motherboard
and with each other. Determine the capabilities and limitations of the
system. Relays information between hardware.
It is a large printed circuit board made of plastic or fiberglass.
Chip
A chip (microchip) is an integrated circuit - a thin slice of silicon crystal packed with microscopic circuit elements.
Ex. wires, transistors, capacitors, resistors etc.
Chipset – a collection of integrated circuits that perform the main functions of the motherboard.
