an editor

Will Robinson, editor of theRoswell (N. M.) Register-Tribune- ,

prints his creed at thehead of the editorial column ofhis paper a3 follows:

' 'I believe in the stuff I amhanding out, in the firm I amworking for, and in my abilityto get results. I believe thathonest stuff can be passed out tohonest men by honest methods.I believe in working, not weepingin boosting, not knocking; andin the pleasure of my job. I be-

lieve that a man gets what hegoes after, that one deed donetoday is worth two deeds tomor-row, and that no man is downand out unless he has lost faithin himself. I believe in today andthe work I hope to do, and inthe sure reward which the futurehlds. I believe in courtesy, inkindness, in generosity, in goodcheer, in friendship and in honest competition. I believe thereis something doing, somewhere, for every man ready to do it. Ibelieve I'm ready right now."

Editor H. J. Fmcke of theMoriarty Messenger was acounty seat business visitoryesterday. During his fewhours in town, lie was a pleasant caller at the News Office.

Rev. J. W. Hendrix of Willard passed through Estanciayesterday en route to Moriartyon church business.

ing this doctrine and they havelearned from experience.

The small farm will eliminatethe greater part of the laborproblem, for the farmer may carefor his own ten acre tract and notbe forced to depend on outsidehelp aside from harvest time.

The ten acre tract will makethe farmer independent of allwater right for he can bring allhe wishes up from the groundand ask no questions.

It will assure sufficient supply, for if one well fails tto supplyenough he may sink another infact he can sink and equip a greatmany with windmills before hehas expended the price of oneartesian well.

The cutting of the big farmsinto ten acre tracts and sellingthem to settlers will do worldstowards populating the valley, for many a man can see his wayclear 3o tend his ten acres andcould be induced to purchase onreasonable terms, who could notbuy a large tract or sink an ar-

tesian well thereon.Instead of one family on a thou-

sand acres there will Qe ten fami-lies on a hundred and sixty acres. The population capable og beingprosperously cared for by thePecos on its ten acre farms is solarge that it staggers one to com-

prehend it, but such is its ulti-mate destiny.

Santa Fe, N. M., Sept. 9.-- An

enthusiastic meeting of progres-sive Republicans was held in tbecity last evening for the purposeof taking the preliminary stepstoward organizing a progressiveRepublican league. The situa-tion was fully canvassed and acommittee of three, consisting ofLevi A. Hughes, Samuel G. Cart- -

wright and Richard H. Hannawas appointed to draft resolu-tions and report on Tuesday evening next when the organizationof a progressive republican leaguewill be effected. Many of themost prominent business men ofthe city were in attendance atthe meeting last night.

Santa Fe, N. M., Sept 8

There are still 33,783,647 acresof public land subject to fillingin New Mexico, against 58,-000,- 000

ten years ago, bub af-

ter the new state has selectedits state lands, the area leftwill not exceed 25,000,000acres and the choicest laudwill have been selected, saidSecretary H. B. íiening of theNew Mexico Bureau of Immigratiou today, "so that thosewho wish to file ou a farm onUncle Sam's domain in NewMexico will have to do so soon.Last fiscal year there were9,667 filings covering 1,718,395acres; the year before therewere 12,999 filings covering2,320,000 acres, while thisyear, owing to the comingstatehood, it is believed thatthere will be 20,000 filings, covering at least 4,000,000acres, as most of the filings oflate are under the enlarged320 acre homesteads law."

The following editorial in theRoswell Record applies with thesame force or greater to the Es-

tancia Valley that it does to thePecos Valley. With irrigation, the small farm will prove theideal in the Estancia Valley, where the soil and climate, withwater easily available, can not besurpassed. The Estancia Valleywill thus provide homes for thou-sands, where without irrigation

- dozens only can be accomodated.Hasten the day of the small irrigated farm in the Estancia Valley:

The one thing that stands outover every other before the traveler in the Pecos Valley is thelogic of the small farm as againstthe failure seen everywhere fromattempts to farm more than canhave proper attention.

'1 attempted too much," saysone. ''I tried to spread all overcreation," says another. Every-where the farmers themselvesare realizing that the Pecos willnot be a land of big farms, butthat the most common farm inthe valley will be the ten-acr- e

tract. Some time the artesian flow will

not be sufficient upon which hopecan afford to be placed for cropraising. When that time maycome, we can not say. It maybe in a few years and it may bein a hundred years. But sometime it will be such that attentionwill be forced to other means forirrigation.

In that day it will be the wind-mill and the pump that will be atthe base of the irrigation projectsand the surface water will beutilized. Wells from ten to twen-ty feet will furnish most of thewater and the ten-acr- e farmerwill own them himself. He willturn the water on when it isneeded and ask no questions con-

cerning his neighbor's interesttherein for his neighbor will notbe concerned.

The Pecos Valley farmer of thefuture will net more money fromhis ten acre tract than the aver-age North Dakota or Montanafarmer nets from his quarter sec-

tion. A ten-acr- e orchard, atenacre garden, ten acres of berries,or of Denias, when cared for inthe Pecos Valley is a gold minefor the owner.

In the days of the ten acre farmland will sell for from one to twothousand dollars per acre and willproduce accordingly. The manwho does not net several thousanddollars from his ten acres willfail because he wills to and notbecause he musv. The valley willbe filled with well-to-d- o farmersand will be the nearest approachto Eden since Adam fell fromgrace. These things are notspeculative. They are seen onevery hand. Especially are thosewith large farms loud in preach- -

Sunday on account of the rainMr. aud Mrs. Arthur Mul

lens moved from the moun-tains to their home last week.

Journal vents his feelings co;cerning those who like to read thuJournal but refuse to come acrosswith the subscription price, inthe following:

"The other day we spied amanreading the Journal, who, onlylast May 'flew-u- p' with two orthree others (during a campaign)and stopped his paper. However, the only difference we can see isthat he paid for the paper thathe read then now he is a bor-

"Title Talks"

The Business of Abstracting .1

ine businefis of Abstracting titles is of comparatively recent :growth. As lands increase in value, the need of title? security becomesmore and more imperative.

It is just as sensible to baieguard the title to a thousand dollar va- - 1cant lot or to any other property, as it is to keep your thousand dollar fbond under lock and key. 3

PROTECTION IN EITHER CASE IS THE THING SOUGHT.Good titles make real estate as negotiable as stocks and bonds. 5There is no way of being sure about the title except by the help of

an abstract by a'reliable "company. j
