Worship should be enthusiastic, and Christ centered with the gospel message proclaimed weekly. I firmly believe that the entire worship celebration should focus on the life changing message of Christ, and should open the door for transformation and change in the life of the church as a whole. Our mission at Central is to "make disciples for Jesus Christ to transform the world".

5. Finally, as a church we must cast a vision for growth not only numerically but also in spiritual maturity. Vision is a word that has become antiquated to many people in the church. I don't believe that. I believe in God's word that says "without vision the people perish."

Therefore, I also firmly believe that God is going to do "A NEW THING" in the midst of this community of faith. Isaiah (42:9, 43:19)

God has called all of the "family of faith" at Central UMC to play a crucial role in the perception and reception of this "NEW THING".

When we as a church spend time in prayer and service, this vision will begin to emerge.

I have high expectations for our church and we will pray and journey together as we fulfill God's mission for Cen-tral.

In closing, I pray each of you will have attended one of the gatherings set up by the Staff-Parish or the one on August 1 at the home of Steve and Gloria Millay at 3:00 p.m. so Martha and I will have gotten a chance to meet our new church family. We are excited at the opportunity to get to know each of you better in a relaxed social set-ting.

Also, remember our new worship schedule, which will begin on September 9.

I am looking forward to preaching at the traditional and casual services.

Please keep in mind that these two services are being pro-vided to reach two different cultural segments of our so-ciety. Reaching new people for Christ is our mission at Central Church.

Prayerfully consider your place in this new service time as we "journey from one place to another."

I hope to see you at worship Sunday and by the way bring an unchurched family member, friend or coworker with you. Offer them Christ. Remember someone offered Him to you.

Be blessed and have a Holy Spirit filled week.

Peace and Grace,

Your pastor,

BEGINNING A NEW PASTORATE:

THE HIGH FIVE

A change in appointment to a new church is the be-ginning of a new journey for both the people here at Central Church and for Martha and I.

This transition is filled with anticipation, joy, new-ness, fear, anxiety and a host of other feelings.

Martha and I are EXCITED about our new ministry journey and we have been welcomed by many church family members personally, through cards and e-mails.

We thank each of you for your prayers and for all of your support and help in cleaning and unpacking as we prepared and moved into our home. THANK YOU.

We still have a lot of work to do at the house, as well as in the office at church but all of this will be taken care of in time.

With so much to do I have put together five points that will guide me and the Central congregation over the next few months. I believe we will work and grow stronger together as a unified body when we focus and create early momentum for moving for-ward together as a community of faith. Many of the-se five points will be covered later in a sermon and in committee meetings.

1. Make prayer a priority. As we begin our ministry journey together, I invite you to re-examine the depth and power of your prayer life.

Prayer is the ministry that will give us the, power, strength, encouragement, wisdom and fortitude to work in this ministry together. The success of our ministry is in our prayer life.

2. We must model Spiritual Leadership in our actions. As pastor and laity we focus on being am-bassadors of Christ in the church, at worship, at the committee table, but also in the life of the communi-ty where we work and live. We model Christ every-day and other people are looking at us. To some peo-ple the only Christ they will see is in us.

3. We must look for signs in the congregation that point to fruitfulness and faithfulness, then celebrate God and blessings. God has gone before us and provided our needs, which calls us to be faith-ful. Our task is to pay attention, listen and obey God's direction.

Central Church is blessed with a wonderful facility and we have many gifted leaders. Our call is to look and listen for direction, and use our spiritual gifts. As we develop new models for ministry we then must celebrate God's blessings. Too often in the church and community we ignore opportunities to give God the praise He deserves.

4. I believe worship is the center piece of Cen-tral's ministry and I will do everything I can as pas-tor to set the tempo and to develop VIBRANT wor-ship in the traditional and casual services. Our goal is to honor Christ each time we meet in worship.

LEARN WHAT "JUST FAITH" LOOKS LIKE

As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are ALL called to be compassionate human beings as our God is compas-sionate. (Luke 6:36) What does the compassion of Christ look like in today’s world? A study adventure beginning in September can help you see this more clearly. Just Faith, a 30 week program, will help to answer this ques-tion through reflection, study, prayer and community. Two come-and-see sessions to learn whether this is for you will be held: Monday, August 20 at Central Church and on Wednesday, August 22 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Both Just Faith informational sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information about this life-changing program, contact Sr. Jackie Kissel, OSB at 423-5209, ext. 103 or Rev. Joe Easley (401-9007).
