The McMichaels of Allegheny County Penn Compiled by

William H McMichael

This genealogy was assembled by William H McMichael of Brookline MA There were several editions of the genealogy which he referred to as Series He worked with several collaborators including my Aunt Nellie Hays Schall He recruited his collaborators by sending out letters to people with the McMichael surname in the western Pennsylvania area

I have fragments of several of the series but the one reproduced here the eighth series may have been the last Many of the copies in my possession are not in good condition or are so marked up as to make them confusing In the era before computers or even the photocopier William had to prepare his manuscript using a typewriter In order to prepare multiple copies he used onion-skin paper with carbon paper between the sheets This however yields a fuzzy print on the paper and the onion-skin paper is very fragile

In some editions of this genealogy it is stated that the William Walker whose daughter Nancy Jane married John McMichael is connected with the GabrielIsaac Walker lineage Although there is a section on collateral lines in this genealogy there appears to be no known linkage between these two Walker lineages This is a conclusion that both my cousin William Vogel and I reached independently after trying to track down many leads
