Hi, Oskari here! This week in ‘How To Survive . . .’ magazine you’re in for a real treat! We’re reviewing

some of the latest – and best – survival guides written by world famous explorers and survivalists

How To Survive on a Desert Island by Harry Cole Super survivor Harry Cole was lost on a desert island in Africa . . . and survived. With just a trusty bottle and some cling film, Harry managed to collect enough fresh water to make a cup of tea. Jolly good show! Harry’s guide also has some excellent information about one of the most important things for a survivalist – how to make a shelter. The Survival Rule of Three states that you can survive three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. So get out there and build those shelters!

Here, you’ll find information about building signal fires and collecting and purifying water. Arthur F-BS also points out the importance of building a good shelter – but don’t use poisonous plants for your roof. Great tip!

Also, watch out for the super-interesting facts at the end of the guide.

How To Survive on a Desert Island by Max Bowen Just last week, I found myself stranded on a desert island and I SO wish I’d had this guide in my survival kit. I was thirsty, hungry, and cold at night, but Max Bowen’s guide would have been enough for me to know how to catch fish, find water AND build a fire. The only thing missing is someone to tuck me in at night and make me a cup of tea in the morning! Amazing!

How To Survive On An Uninhabited Island by Max Hewett Where does Bear Grylls go when he needs advice? Max Hewett, of course! Max is a seasoned survivalist who has actually swum with dolphins! I wonder if they taught him a few sea survival secrets? Where else would he have learned such awesome shark hunting techniques? Also included in this handy survival guide are ‘building a shelter’ and ‘making a fire without a match’. As an added bonus, this guide is on special offer – buy one get one free, so you can buy one for you and give the other to your friend, Bear.

Guest Tip . . . And now it’s time for guest writer, Dan Smith to share a top survival tip.

‘When I used to go on long fishing trips with my brother, we always took our fishing gear – hooks, lines, weights etc – and we always had a knife and a fire kit. We also took mosquito repellent, a mosquito net, something to make a waterproof shelter, and we always, always, ALWAYS, took toilet paper. You

never know when you’re going to need it!
