THE NEW MADISONTHE FOUR MOVEMENTS GIVEN BELOW ARETHOSE AGREED BY A PRELIMINARY COM-MITTEE AS BEING THE MOST SUITABLE SIMPLESTEPS TO FORM THE BASIS OF THE DANCETHE "NEW MADISON" CAN BE DANCED BYCOUPLES WITHOUT CONTACT OR HOLD.

The girl uses the same foot as the man not the oppositeas in quickstep, <;tc. It can also be danced side by side,or in lines, or in groups, or even just solo as individuals,Mass calling is not recommended. Group leaders willprobably develop their own calling if they wish to but itshould not be made a "must".

"TWO UP AND TWO BACK"

Commence with weight on R.F.1. Forward L.F. with strong left side lead ... Count 12. Close R.F. to L.F 23. Forward L.F 34. Tap R.F. to heel of L.F. without weight (or

cross loosely behind as in basic) ... , , 45. R.F. back 56. Close L.F. to R.F 67. R.F. back to original position „ 78. Replace L.F. to R.F. without weight (now

ready to repeat "Two Up and Two Back"or go into Madison basic) , 8

The New Madison can be danced to jive rhythm playedat 34 to 36 bars per minute. New records are in themaking and will be announced as soon as they are ready.Finger snapping and clapping hands are a feature of thedance, but the snapping or clapping must always be doneon the "off' beats, i.e. 2nd or 4th beats of the bar.
