st Master Test on 15/6/2019

The Dachshund Club of NSW has been conducting earthdog tests at Dogs NSW “Dogs On Show” Day for a number of years. Lure coursing and Jack Russell Terrier racing events are also held nearby, all generating a great deal of interest from pet owners and conformation show exhibitors. This year, thirteen Qualifying Certificates were awarded to the nineteen participating dogs which included Associate Register, Australian, Border, Jack Russell, Lakeland, Norwich, Parson Russell, Scottish and West Highland White Terriers but only two Dachshunds (both Miniature Smooths). A huge effort goes into conducting these tests and we thank the judges, Kerry Beckhaus and Brian Clinch, the show secretary Gillian Tompkins, the Dogs NSW representative Carole Woolcock and all who assisted with stewarding, providing quarry for the two tests and setting up and dismantling the tunnels. DACHSHUND CLUB OF NSW INC CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 19/4/2019 JUDGE – MRS MARIE GADOLIN (Sweden)

Marie Gadolin commencing judging on 19/4/2019 assisted by steward Ted Martin

JUDGE’S CRITIQUE

On April 19, 2019 I had the great pleasure of judging the Dachshund Club of NSW championship show at Castle Hill. This was an appointment that I had been waiting for with anticipation, and I wasn’t disappointed. The show was well run, I had an excellent ring steward and many beautiful Dachsies to judge. Mini Longs had the biggest entry, with quite a variation in type. My BOB was a

Page 6: THE LOW DOWN - The Dachshund Club of NSW Inc€¦ · OF BREED - Ch Syrma Jadeite – N & Y Anastas RESERVE CHALLENGE BITCH - Syrma La Boheme – N & Y Anastas THE DACHSHUND CLUB OF

fabulous young boy that could win anywhere in the world I think, but definitely so in Europe. Mini Smooths had the strongest and most homogeneous entry and I was spoilt for choice. Eventually movements, topline and general balance fell the ruling, but I had many potential winners. The other varieties were smaller in number, but still of excellent quality. I did however find the Standards a bit too large in general, even considering that you allow heavier dogs in Australia than we do in the FCI countries. On the other hand, I found much better prosternums and more excellent shoulders than I have ever done when judging in Europe. All in all I had a wonderful day in the ring, with some difficult decisions, as it should be when the quality is high. Marie Gadolin – Sweden
