Kyrgyzstan is grand. Kyrgyzstan has everything. Until four years ago, Kyrgyzstan was officially (according to the New York Times) the most unknown country in the world. Now it is listed as Lonely Planet’s #5 top destination for 2019 and unfortunately, Kyrgyzstans undiscovered reputation won’t last long. But Kyrgyzstan is getting famous for various reasons. The country is not only incredibly good looking. The country is tremendously diverse. Because of her Soviet past and her location in the foothills of the Himalayas, you will face some crazy contrasts to say the least. One night you could have a memorable night out with your mates in a funky Karaoke bar. The next day, in one and a half hour driving, you can be at 3000 meters, standing face to face with Kyrgyz eagle hunters. We fell in love with this country three years ago and we want to share this country with you in the most unique, adventurous way possible.

Be aware! This will not be a comfortable holiday. Chances of car trouble is real. Chances of you wearing your underwear for two days in a row is absolutely real. But my god: these Russian cars wil make your heart beat faster. They will make you feel in love. And then there is Kyrgyzstan. The country that will throw a different, dazzling landscape at you every time you turn your steering wheel. We are surprised this country is so undiscovered. At the same time exactly the reason to visit now.

Are you doubting if you are qualified or fit enough for a trip like this? We don’t want to scare you. We have done two editions so far and each edition completed every single kilometer of the Roadbook. 0 technical knowledge is required. All you need is an adventurous heart, trust in a good ending and you need to be stress resistant if your car breaks down at a 4000m high mountain pass. There are five other cars to rescue you. In addition, the Kyrgyz are helpful friendly people and they are well aware you are driving a shitty car.

This is a group travel and at the same time we hate that word. We drive the same route, but during the day you and your mates are free to do whatever you want. No need to stick to the group leaders umbrella, we’re not driving in a convoy, we don’t stop at the same time at the same highlights and we don’t visit the same temple together. And if you don’t feel like socializing for a night? Feel free to pitch your tent on top of the next mountain. All good.

A ROADTRIP WITH THE LOST BOYS REQUIRES ZERO KNOWLEDGE OF CARS. ALL TEAMS COMPLETED EVERY SINGLE KILOMETER FROM THE ROADBOOK. THEY W E R E N O C A R M E C H A N I C S O R HANDYMEN. WE ARE SIX CARS. WE HELP EACH OTHER IN CASE OF CAR TROUBLE AND AT NIGHT WE SHARE WODKA, BEER AND GOOD STORIES.

We keep information as limited as possible. We are looking for the type of traveller that does not like to know what the next day will bring. The route stays secret en changes every year. We start and we finish in Bishkek. Everything in between is an adventure.

The Lost Boys like to be outside their comfort zone. We don’t have back up vehicles with mechanics, we don’t use satellite phones. In case of car trouble you should be self-supportive. Tow each other to the next Kyrgyz garage, change each others tyre. We will not do it for you. We love to hear how you got your shock breaker fixed in a nomad tent with Kyrgyz shepherds that don’t know a word of English. We believe these are exactly the stories you want to take home. Of course we will not leave you in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.

how to get there.

During the day, you and your mates swing your way through the masterpieces of the Kyrgyz’

pavers, while you are listening to awful (yet perfect) Russian

gangster rap tunes.

At the end of the day we welcome you with cold beers, food, a camp fire

and the traditional vodka toast.

A DAY IN THE WORLD OF THE LOST BOYS

‘A trip with The Lost Boys is an adventure. That is what they promised beforehand and boy did they deliver! Kyrgyzstan is breathtaking with continuously changing landscapes. We drove the Buhanka. Such power in that apparently creaky looking Russian car. We drove for two weeks and everyday something would happen, but got fixed or sorted by a team mate or local hero. At the end of the day you can sit and relax with a cold beer and look back at all that happend that day. Build a camp fire, pitch your tent, share food, vodka and laughs. Everything was well managed but never overdone. All felt like true adventure. I’ll never forget this trip.

‘The road trip through Kyrgyzstan belongs to the best time of my life. Ultimate freedom, the landscapes, the Kyrgyz people, the heat, the dust, the travel companions en of course the indestructible Buhanka. The coolest travel concept for people with guts.

‘Fenomenal. If you like cars, nature, camping and a good night out, than this is the perfect holiday. The cars are perfectly uncomfortable but that is 90% the fun. Toilets and showers are scarce but that resulted in funny situations. And there is no better bath than bathing at a lake at the foot of 7000m high mountains.

‘I had to go over some fights at home as a yourg father, but this has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. What describes the Lost Boys best: Adventure, loads of fun, each day completely different, good music, vodka, never seen so many stars, fantastic landscapes.. Oh and what I want to add: I did this with 5 of my mates. It is so cool to experience this together because we will be talking about this for the next 50 years. Non of us are handy men nor technicians, nor Bear Grylls type of guys. But we always managed and we took home the best stories. I grant everyone a trip like this one. PRACTICAL INFORMATION

DATE: 30th of August - 12th of September 2020

AVAILABLE CARS: 6 UAZ BUHANKA’S

MAX NUMBER PARTICIPANTS: 24

PRICE: 1700 EURO PP

For this price you are on the road for 14 days. Car, Roadbook, paperwork, permits, diner, beers and each night the traditional vodka toast are included. Flight (400 euro’s if you book early, 600 if you book late), gas, breakfast, lunch and fermented horse milk is not included. Calculate 200 euro pp for this or 400 if you want to go crazy on the horse milk.

Each car is equipped with a gas stove and some pots and pans so you and your mates can make coffee or make lunch along the way.

For each car there is a deposit of 400 euro’s. Mechanical breakdowns we will pay. Scratches, dents, flat tyres, cracks in de windshield and other damages are for your own account. Some examples: last year six out of nine teams got their deposit back. One team lost their deposit because they hit a lamppost. On team lost 60 euro’s because of a scratch over the whole side of the van and one team lost their deposit because they hit a rock.

SLEEPING We combine Yurt Camps with wild camping. You bring your own tent, mat and sleeping bag.
