This story is about a seven-year-old girl named Sara Crewe, who is sent to live at Miss Minchin’s boarding school in London. Her father, Captain Crewe, a doting young man who leaves instructions that his daughter is to be given a private room with a parlor, a maid, and anything else she might desire in his absence. The school's headmistress, Miss Minchin, privately believes that Sara must be intolerably spoiled by her own father, who allows her to do everything and have anything she wants. but Miss Minchin is impressed by Captain Crewe's fortune and quickly turns the well-dressed, well-mannered Sara into a star pupil.

Far from being spoiled, Sara is a bright, imaginative, and empathetic child who loves books and storytelling. She even friends those whose status are far from hers. Such as the scullery maid Becky. Miss Minchin does not approve of such friendships, but she is willing to tolerate them for fear that Sara will complain to her father. A few of the older students are jealous of Sara's fortune and even give her the mocking nickname of "Princess Sara" due to her wealth and perfect manners.

Her luxury does not last for too long because on Sara's eleventh birthday, which was supposed to be a joyous day for Sara, news arrives that Captain Crewe has died in India, having lost all his fortune due to investments made by a friend who betrayed him. Sara is left a pauper, her school bills unpaid, and Miss Minchin, now having been left with a student she has never liked, turns Sara into a servant, requiring her to work without pay in exchange for food and a place to live. Sara is given a room in the attic next to Becky, the scullery maid she befriended.

• For the next three years, Sara is overworked and half-starved. In her loneliness, she uses her imagination to comfort herself, trying to persuade herself that her room is just a place in the stories of her imaginations, so that she will not feel sad now that she is in this circumstances. Sara also does her best to keep up with her studies and to remember her good breeding and manners, even though this makes her unpopular with her fellow servants and with Miss Minchin of course.

• A second section of the story develops when Sara sees a new family moving into the house across the street. Having been born in India, she recognizes many of the furnishings in the house, to be belonging to an Indian sailor or a man serving the army just like her father. Upon learning that the master of the house is ill with the same “brain fever" that killed her own father, Sara begins to pity him and weaves him into her fantasies, referring to him in her mind as "the Indian gentleman." He takes up residence in the attic across from Sara's own, and Sara is able to speak to him in his native language.

Every day, the comforts in the attic are added to, and Sara shares them with Becky. It so happens that when one day, a delivery of new clothes arrives at the boarding school for Sara, and Miss Minchin, worried that someone has revived an interest in Sara's case, allows her to attend school with the other students, for fear that someone may accuse her of treating her badly. When Sara returns to her attic, she finds that the Indian gentleman’s pet monkey has escaped and taken refuge in her room. The following morning, she crosses the street to return the monkey and to at last meet him, whose real name is Carriford.

Carrisford enquires as to Sara's name and circumstances, only to realise that Sara was the formerly missing child of Captain Crewe. Carrisford, it is revealed, was the friend who "lost" Captain Crewe's fortune. After the captain died in despair, the fortune reappeared. Knowing that Crewe had a child in boarding school, Carrisford has spent the last two years searching schools throughout Europe for Sara. As Sara had been expelled from her pupilship and demoted to the status of a scullery-maid, Carrisford's search had therefore been unsuccessful.

Setting Miss Minchin’s boarding school in London. Captain Crewe, a wealthy business man ,

enrolled Sara in a leading boarding school in London where all the imaginable trappings of luxury awaits her.

The doting father leaves instructions to Miss Minchin, the headmistress of the boarding school, that Sara shall be treated like a “princess", and be given almost anything that she wants.

Her father gives her every comfort and the best money can buy, especially as Sara has been motherless since young.

Is bright and has a wide imagination. Almost perfect at French, which amazes quite a

number of adults around her, especially Miss Minchin.

• I like Sara because Sara did not complain or blame herself, for her luxurious life is so short-lived. Despite being relegated from the exalted position of a treasured inmate, to a lowly and utterly neglected scullery-maid in Miss Minchin’s, after the sudden death of her father. Instead, she perseveres on and encourages herself to be stronger. She also has strength of character and a mature attitude towards her changed life, when she is suddenly orphaned. She combats the harsh living, hunger and hopelessness and succeeds in overcoming her difficulties. This reflects our school’s value: “Conquer Thyself” .True to herself, Sara succeeds in doing this, as every difficulty becomes a stepping stone for her.

years. Shocked to know, he was the friend who lost

Captain’s Crewe’s fortune, which we can say that he actually betrayed him.

The fortune reappeared after the death of Captain Crewe. Knowing that he had a child in a boarding school in London, Carrisford has thus been determined to find Sara as he feels that he owes them too much.

Complication

News spread that Sara’s father had died in India due to a disease called" brain fever” which is caused by a virus attack in the brain.

Sara was then reduced to a maid by the cruel Miss Minchin who had always disliked her.

She was since bullied by the people around her, she felt lonely and helpless ,but there was nothing she could do to solve it.

Climax Fortunately, things changed for the better, Sara

was then after re-discovered by a gentleman from India who is looking for her all over.

Knowing that Sara has been ill-treated by Miss Minchin for the past few years, Carriford, who is the gentleman, brought Sara away from that terrible school.

He also takes along Becky, who has been accompanying Sara in her years of pain, and also Sara’s best friend, to his house and allows her to be their maid. Becky will never have to be bullied by the dreadful Miss Minchin again.

This book teaches us moral values. Every page of the book will never

fail to amaze us.It made me feel as if I am in the

story.It makes my imagination run wild.You will never bear to put down the

book if you start to read the very first page.
