THE MEETING PLACE CAFE
COME AND JOIN US - WHERE?
AT THE MEETING PLACE CAFÉ!
The Meeting Place Café has now reopened on Thursday 8th January, 2015 and will continue to serve local residents and
visitors each Thursday morning together with the Kendall Bazaar. We regret the article in the December edition of the
Chronicle incorrectly stated the Café would not be reopening until 22 January.
Due to a shortfall in volunteers together with the retirement of key volunteer, Reggie Crane, the Café will not be serving
meals but will continue to serve morning teas with their usual large selection of delicious homemade cakes together with
superb coffee and teas. The Kendall Bazaar will also be active supplying fresh garden produce, seedlings/plants, home-
made jams, chutneys and relishes plus gift items and more. So we trust our customers will continue to come and enjoy their
Thursday mornings with us at the Café and the Bazaar.
Due to the great success of the Meeting Place Café over the past years, customer numbers have been steadily rising, howev-
er our volunteers are in decline and the workload on our current team has been taking its toll.
That the Meeting Place Café and Kendall Bazaar are an integral part of the social and economic fabric of Kendall is irrefu-
table. Created some ten years ago and operated by a team of dedicated volunteers the Café has raised many tens of thou-
sands of dollars which have been used to maintain and repair our great Community Hall together with the purchase of a
number of assets required for the successful operation of the Hall and Community Centre office.
For the Meeting Place Café to provide morning teas AND lunches in the future, new volunteers such as cooks, wait staff,
dishwashers and baristas are needed to maintain the Café’s successful operations. If you are interested in this type of vol-
unteering and feel you would be able to assist, please see any of the current volunteers on a Thursday or phone the Commu-
nity Centre Office on 6559 0055 and leave your details.
We thank you for your custom over past years and look forward to welcoming you in the future.

Only women of a certain era will appreciate this story... If you don’t understand, ask your mother, she’ll explain!!
A woman was holidaying in small New England town where Paul Newman often
visited and after arising early one morning and taking a long walk alone she decided
to treat herself to a triple chocolate icecream cone at the local bakery come ice-
cream parlour so got into her car and drove into the village centre..
There was only one other patron in the store so early - Paul Newman - sitting
having a donut and coffee. Her heart skipped a beat when she made contact with
those famous baby blue eyes; Paul nodded graciously and totally starstruck, she
smiled back demurely. “Pull yourself together” she chided herself “you’re 45 years
old, happily married with three children and not a silly teenager”!
She ordered her chocolate icecream and then left the store, change in one hand and
icecream cone in the other and avoided even glancing in Paul Newman’s direction.
When she got to her car she realised she still had a handful of change but her other
hand was empty - no icecream! How can that be? Did she leave it in the store?
So back to the store she went expecting to see the icecream still in the clerk’s hand
or on the counter but it was nowhere in sight!
With that, she glanced at Paul Newman who gave her a warm, friendly grin and
said .......“You put it in your purse”.

KENDALL BIG WINNER WITH
COMMUNITY BUILDING
PARTNERSHIP GRANTS
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams today an-nounced that the Kendall community would benefit from
over $40,000 in grant funding for community infrastructure committed to rebuilding NSW.
The funding has been provided under the NSW Govern-ment’s Community Building Partnership program.
Leslie Williams said she was the delighted the NSW Prem-ier Mike Baird announced the roll out of these local pro-jects which brings the total funding of projects for the Port Macquarie electorate to $1.4 million over the past four years.
“There was a strong level of interest from the community for the available funds, with 82 applications from across the Port Macquarie electorate,” Mrs Williams said.
The Kendall community will receive over $40,000 in fund-ing which will directly assist four community organisations and provide significant benefits to the public broadly.
The Camden Haven Show Society applied for $27,730 in funding on behalf of their own organisation as well as the Camden Haven Boxing Team and the Kendall Men’s Shed to seal the driveway which runs between the two entrance gates of the showground. The provision of a bitumen seal to the internal roadway will also include the installation of a speed hump to improve road safety.
The Camden Haven Show Society were also successful in their funding application for $10,000 to replace the roof on the amenities block and install a commercial dryer and washing machine for use by campers.
The Kendall Riding for the Disabled will also receive $2500 to purchase and install two rainwater tanks to irrigate the riding arena.
“Local businesses will benefit from this investment in com-munity infrastructure,” Mrs Williams said.
“Since 2011 it’s been a privilege to support community pro-jects that make a real difference to local organisations in the Port Macquarie electorate worth $1.4 million.
“I look forward to seeing the benefits of these local projects announced today for the Kendall community as they pro-gress.
What a great night we had at the Kendall Community Hall on
5th December! Wonderful performances in the first half of
the night, and then, once STIX n STONZ came on, they really
got everyone going – what a great sound - all those drums and
instruments. People even got up and danced! For their last
number, they handed out percussion instruments to everyone
in the audience. It was such good fun to be able to join in!
So, what’s next? On Friday 6th February, it will be a great
honour to have KEVIN ATKINS from Lake Cathie as our
main guest artist. Kevin plays piano – he plays at the Glass-
house every Wednesday! When I asked him, would he play
for us, he said: “Well – I am 82 years old – so I better not
wait too long – why not make it February”.
On Friday 6th March, the wonderful voice of ROBYN
THOMAS from Lakewood will fill the hall. Robyn sang a
few songs for us on 5th December and everybody was just in
awe about her beautiful voice. Robyn says she has always
sung. She started taking lessons at around the age of six and
used to participate in the Railway Institute Eistedfodds. As
for the guitar, she started to teach herself to play when she was
10. During her teens and twenties she used to play a lot in
coffee houses and folk clubs. Robyn did Cert III in Music at
TAFE in 2011. As well as her folk and rock music she also
does classical singing. In that vein she has taken part in sev-
eral of the Glasshouse lunchtime concerts but, she says: “put
a guitar in my hands and I am home”. Make sure you mark
these two nights in your diary so you don’t forget about them.
Bring your instrument along – all musicians are always en-
couraged and welcome to play a few songs – or just come and
enjoy a great evening of music, light supper and great compa-
ny.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, entry is by dona-
tion.

DANGEROUS!! YOU CAN BE JUST 5 MINUTES
AWAY FROM CHOCOLATE CAKE!
Take a large coffee mug and place 4 tblspns SR Flour,
4 tblspns sugar and 2 tblspns of cocoa in and mix well.
Add 1 egg, 3 tblspns milk and 3 tblspns of vegetable
oil and mix thoroughly (maybe beat with a fork)
Add a handful of chocolate chips if you’re inclined to-
gether with a splash of vanilla extract and mix.
Place in microwave (1000W) and cook for 3 minutes.
Remove carefully and allow to cool. Now you can tip
it onto a plate and if you are feeling virtuous it can
serve two!
Pair with cream or icecream and you have an instant
dessert.
Enjoy!!

This issue’s SUDOKU is a medium one!
The Kendall Community Op Shop AGM was held on 11 De-
cember 2014 at the Kendall Services and Citizens Club.
President Diane Pope reported that 2014 had been our most
successful year financially. Diane added “we do not measure
success purely by financial gains and will continue to be a
place where the community is served well”. Our volunteers
are valued and acknowledged, our providers of goods are
acknowledged and thanked and the responsibility of serving
the community is taken seriously and cheerfully”.
Committee members re-elected are, President Diane Pope;
Vice President, Bill Jones; Secretary, Phil Higgins; Treasurer
Margaret Phelps; Volunteer Co-ordinator, Sue Parkinson;
Committee members, Greg McMahon and Sheila Ayshford.
Most of the profit from the Op-Shop is distributed through
our Grants System. This system requires organisations to
apply for funds via application. The Committee then has the
task of deciding the merit of each application. This year ap-
plication forms will be available mid January and Grants dis-
tributed in March. These grants are available to ‘not for
profit’ community groups seeking assistance for a project
which addresses a community need. Application forms are
available at the Op-Shop.
The Grant system in 2014 saw almost $102,000 distribut-
ed among 21 organisations.
Charity Grants, which make up 5% of annual net profit, are
decided by volunteers. Representative of these charities put
forward submissions at the volunteers’ monthly meetings.
Five charities benefited last year from a total of $5,500.
In addition we have been able to support some organisations
whose needs do not comply with the Grants criteria and we
have done this through sponsorship. The Live Music Sydney
Performance Group performed for local schools under spon-
sorship. The cost of the upkeep of a horse at Kendall RDA.
These sponsorships totalled $7,500.
$115,000 was directed back to the community during
2014.
Solar panels were recently installed, decreasing running
costs.
As always the shop is bursting with good things. For music
lovers there is some great sheet music, tapes, CD’S and vi-
nyls. Also on display at present are backpacks, soft sided
carry bags and larger suitcases. If you are not travelling
those large suitcases are handy for storing out of season
clothes.
When donating large objects could you please check at the
front desk as storage is a problem at the moment.
Volunteers and Committee wish our valued customers health
and happiness for 2015.

KENDALL DISTRICT GARDENERS CLUB NEWS
The venue for our Christmas meeting this year was the Cattai Wet-
lands, near Coopernook; a change from the School of Arts which had
been the place for ten years. The previous week had been rainy so we
wondered if it would be the same for Monday - It wasn't! The sun
was out and looked likely to be so all day. Twenty intrepid members
arrived at the Wetlands, most by way of the S of A where passengers
consolidated and cars left in convoy. After parking we walked to a
wonderful shelter; beautifully made, solid wood tables and benches
are provided there and we all quickly started to get into the drinks and
nibbles. A framed photo of our leader cruising along (in a race!) in a
kayak was presented to him, to general hilarity.
John thanked all who have helped during the year - even those who
didn't make it - before asking a few Trivia questions. The correct an-
swers earned a small gift - two correct and you were out. Some peo-
ple had trouble remembering that, including John! After, the majority
of members went off to wander around the lake or investigate the side
tracks; the others sat and chatted. We reconvened at 11.15 or so to
enjoy the food we had brought along. Cakes, melon, biscuits, fruit
and other goodies were placed on one table for all to have - thank you to the donors - and all were demolished.
We began to scatter from 12.30, with all saying how much they had enjoyed this different celebration and regret-
ting that more of our usual members had decided not to go just 30km south of Kew. Should we go again next
year or somewhere else? Only time will tell.
Our January 19th meeting (10am) will introduce as guest speaker Terry Miles who is responsible for the beau-
tiful display of roses at the Kendall Club. Come along and pick his brains on how to do it; all are welcome to
this and every meeting.
