On Flag Day, I wave my flag,

flag of American liberty.

Independence day, of course, I’ll

wave, birthday of our liberty.

Memorial day my flag will wave,

lives now gone for liberty.

Veteran’s day I’ll wave it too,

for all who serve for liberty.

Other days my flag conveys,

pride, appreciation of liberty.

I need no reason to wave my flag,

I wave my flag in liberty.

There are little eyes upon you

and they’re watching night and day.

There are little ears that quickly

take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager

to do anything you do;

and a little boy who’s dreaming

of the day he’ll be like you.

You’re the little fellow’s idol;

you’re the wisest of the wise.

In his little mind about you

no suspicions ever rise.

He believes in you devoutly,

holds all you say and do;

he will say and do, in your way

when he’s grown up just like you.

There’s a wide-eyed little fellow,

who believes you’re always right;

and his eyes are always opened,

and he watches day and night.

You are setting an example

every day in all you do;

for the little boy who’s waiting

to grow up just like you.

Daddy’s Footsteps

“Walk a little slower Daddy,”

said a child so small,

“I’m following in your footsteps,

and I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,

Sometimes they’re hard to see,

So walk a little slower, Daddy,

For you are leading me.

Someday when I am all grown up,

You’re what I want to be,

Then I will have a little child

Who will want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,

And know that I was true,

So walk a little slower, Daddy,

For I must follow you.”

Ephesians 6:1-4

Children, obey your

parents in the Lord:

for this is right.

Honour thy father

and mother; (which

is the first command-

ment with promise;)

That it may be well

with thee, and thou

mayest live long on

the earth.

And, ye fathers,

provoke not your

children to wrath: but

bring them up in the

nurture and admoni-

tion of the Lord.

Enjoy your

Summer!

Colossians 3:21a

Fathers, provoke not your children

to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Be Strong Bible Club & Teens

With summer in sight, our “Be Strong Bible Club” is

busily wrapping up another school year! We are moving

steadily along the timeline of Genesis, pondering God’s

faithfulness to the descendants of Abraham. The children

have been amazed to see how God provided a ram just be-

fore Abraham sacrificed his precious son, Isaac. Next, we found Isaac

grown up, and married to Rebekah. When their twins were born, Isaac

favored Esau, but Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite. Our students were sur-

prised to hear that his mother helped Jacob disguise himself as Esau,

tricking elderly Isaac into giving Jacob the family birthright! Then, we

saw Jacob on the run, dreaming about the staircase to heaven and later

wrestling with God Himself. Finally, we have learned about Jacob’s

twelve sons and how he loved Joseph the most. When his jealous broth-

ers sold young Joseph into slavery, they thought they were in control,

but God was still working out His plan! That has been our focus

throughout our study of this incredible family... in every generation,

somebody always attempted to take things into their own hands, but no

one could ever unravel God’s plan! Over and over in Genesis, we see

stubborn people learning that they must trust God with the details, in

His own timing. The Lord’s covenant was made in Abraham’s day, and

despite the mishaps along the way, God’s promises would stay true

throughout the generations! We desire to instill this truth in the hearts of

our youngsters: “A man’s heart deviseth his way; but the Lord directeth

his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9) Our students are eager to see how God’s

plan for Joseph unfolds, even as he faces the heartbreak of slavery far

away in Egypt. The timing couldn’t be better... as we finish up Joseph’s

story, we will move directly into Vacation Bible School for an in-depth

study of God’s faithfulness to Joseph!

In May, we made another “Be Strong Home Visit.” This time, we

stopped in to see sweet Irene Shields. After our group sang for Irene, it

was a blessing to hear stories about her dear husband Wade, who is so

deeply missed. In this season of planting, Wade’s loved ones are seeing

him in the sprouting seeds, and in the greening leaves of his freshly

plowed fields. When the watermelons appear, Wade’s legacy will be

fondly remembered again. This summer, it is that same rich heritage of

our beloved ancestors that have drawn us to our Vacation Bible School

theme . . . “Farm Fresh Faith.” In June, Smith Grove Baptist Church

has the chance to revisit its roots as we celebrate the farming lifestyle

on which our little community was founded. Generations ago, our

church doors opened to welcome the farmers and their families, who

built our beautiful “Sandy Ridge.” Over this century, many changes

have come in the name of progress, and right now, we’re on the brink of

the most drastic changes yet. We hurt to see the landscape altered; we

cringe to watch familiar roads lead to different places; and we’re heart-

broken to find cherished homes and trees toppled. In these changing

times, we all need to be gently reminded of God’s faithfulness... so we

invite you to come and ponder His work in the life of Joseph. Nobody

could understand change any better than Joseph, betrayed by his own

brothers, torn from his family and far from home, falsely accused and

thrown into prison. But God was faithful to carry Joseph through the

dark, uncertain seasons of sorrow he faced. While we look out at the

dismal changes around us, our eyes lift to the beautiful summer sky and

we realize that this is truly the perfect time to be reminded... the Lord’s

“faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.” (Psalm 36:5) Whether you’re

3 or 103, come, join us, and be encouraged by our faithful God’s unfail-

ing love and guidance . . .

Looking Forward to Having You on the “Farm,”

Bruce, Darla, and Marshall

Generations ago, our church doors opened to welcome the farmers and their

families, who built our beautiful “Sandy Ridge.”

On a recent Wednesday night,

Calvin Vaughn asked that we

remember to pray for all those

on our Prayer List, and to try to

keep the information up to date

and accurate. He brought some-

thing with him that he thought

might be helpful. Since there

weren’t enough for all of us,

here is one of our very own to

cut out and keep.

“Many times you’ve said, I’ll

do it as soon as I get a round

tuit. Now’s your chance - now

you can do it … now at last

you’ve got A ROUND TUIT.”

God is a missionary God. – The Bible is a missionary Book!

"And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nations"

We have been very busy in meetings and assisting and supporting our

European and Middle East missionaries. I also had the joy leading an

86 year old man to Lord on visitation few weeks ago. He came to

church and professed his faith in Jesus Christ.

I just got back from Japan where I held meetings in two churches and

also met with one of our Macedonia missionaries. I was at the Yoko-

suka Baptist Church where Mike Pinson pastors. I was also with

Danny McKettrick at the Yakota Baptist Church. God blessed in the

meetings. A Japanese lady who had recently been saved brought her 98

yearold Japanese Buddhist mother to hear me preach. They translate

thru ear phones. They had trouble with them through out the service, so

she heard only part of the message. She wanted to come back the next

Sunday and hear more. She did - and was saved!

I will be leaving in two weeks to go to Ghent, Belgium (Junior Haley).

I will be involved in the organization of the first Baptist Church in a

city of 250,000 people. They have about 50-60 in each of the two ser-

vices on the Lord's day. I will also be preaching their first Revival.

Thank you for your part in this great event of planting another church.

Yours in Christ,

Roger and Diane Baker

Did you know that God has a special

place in His heart for Southerners? No?

Well, let me explain! First of all, it is

noteworthy that it seems altogether possi-

ble that God made the sky a definite

Carolina Blue! Then, He made sure to

place a few special words in the Bible that

we southerners would immediately recognize as being meant for us (and

for others, but certainly for us!). Specifically, He used Southern Words.

(If you don’t believe it, just ask our Teacher Extraordinaire Glen Black-

burn!)

Peruse this short, yet definitely Southern list of words from the KJV

Bible, and you will definitely feel closer to our Heavenly Father in a

truly Southern way!

apt; betwixt; bless; confound; declare; divining; dropsy; gall;

gracious; raised; reckon; thunder; well-nigh; yonder; You all (of

course He meant “y’all!”)

These fun words/phrases below are not found in the Bible, but

many of them are worthy of the title “Southern for sure!”

Buggy (not shopping cart!); Bumfuzzled; Caddywompus; Cain’t never

could; Catty-corner; Conniption fit; Crawdads; Dad-burn; dose of soda;

Finer than frog hair split four ways; Fixin’ to; Full as a tick; Funny as all

get out; Fur piece; Gumption; Hankerin’; Heavens to Betsy; Hoe cake;

Hold your horses; Hush up; Hush your mouth; It doesn’t amount to a

The Remaining Rest for the People of God

Hebrews 4:9

Rest seems to be a rare commodity in an action-packed and stressful

world. It certainly seems that there is very little rest for the weary. While

a person may take vacations to recuperate, they still usually return home

and have to rest from the vacation! Rest is not only a physical necessity

but a mental necessity as well. Rest is especially a spiritual necessity.

The people of God have already enjoyed the rest of salvation as refer-

enced in Matthew 11:28. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are

heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The people of God may enjoy the

rest of consecration as they yield to His teachings and control. “Take my

yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and

ye shall find rest unto your souls.” – Matthew 11:29 The people of God

will eventually enjoy the rest of heaven as they rest from their labors.

There is a remaining rest for the people of God which is a rest of faith.

Israel of old was kept out of the rest of Canaan because of unbelief. The

rest of faith on the part of the Christian is a rest that comes as Christ lives

in and through them and is fed from a consciousness of His finished

work. It is a rest received from the understanding of Paul’s words in Ga-

latians 2:20. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but

Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the

faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Andrew Murray said, “Not I, but Christ. This is the rest of faith in

which a man rests from his works. With the unconverted man it is, Not

Christ, but I. With the feeble and slothful Christian, I and Christ: I first,

and Christ to fill up what is wanting. With increasing earnestness it be-

comes Christ and I: Christ first but still I second. With the man who dies

with Christ it is, Not I but Christ: Christ alone and Christ all. He hath

ceased from his work; Christ liveth in him. This is the rest of faith.”

The remaining rest of faith is reserved for the Christian who knows the

Lord Jesus Christ not only as a Moses who has led them out of Egypt,

but also as a Joshua who has led them into Canaan! They are appropriat-

ing by faith the victories of the risen Lord. They recognize the finished

work of the Saviour as their own entitlement to a joint victory for they

have given heart consent to what it means to be risen with Christ. The

rest of faith is coupled with the sense of victory in Jesus!

Although the term D-Day is used

routinely as military lingo for the

day an operation or event will

take place, for many it is also

synonymous with June 6, 1944,

the day the Allied powers crossed

the English Channel and landed

on the beaches of Normandy,

France, beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control

during World War II. Within three months, the northern part of France

would be freed and the invasion force would be preparing to enter

Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet forces moving in

from the east.

On the morning of June 5, 1944, U.S. General Dwight D. Eisen-

hower, the supreme commander of Allied forces in Europe gave the go

-ahead for Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious military opera-

tion in history. On his orders, 6,000 landing craft, ships and other ves-

sels carrying 176,000 troops began to leave England for the trip to

France. That night, 822 aircraft filled with parachutists headed for

drop zones in Normandy. An additional 13,000 aircraft were mobi-

lized to provide air cover and support for the invasion.

Though it did not go off exactly as planned, as later claimed by

British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery–for example, the Allies

were able to land only fractions of the supplies and vehicles they had

intended in France–D-Day was a decided success. By the end of June,

the Allies had 850,000 men and 150,000 vehicles in Normandy and

were poised to continue their march across Europe.

Today’s accounts of the D-day landings often sanitize out refer-

ences to God’s deliverance. But, at the time, newspapers eulogized

over the miracles of D-day, Dunkirk, El Alamein and the Battle of

Britain. The nation on its knees in prayer had seen dramatic deliver-

ances.

Now, with the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2 ap-

proaching, let us remember that it was God who delivered us from the

barbarities of Nazism. As different, and often global, forces of un-

righteousness gain momentum within our nation, may the memory of

God’s past providences inspire us to trust him for the future.
