ALL WOMEN OF THE CHURCH: You are invited to our “GEMS” meeting, Thursday, October 18 at 6:30pm in the multi. “GEMS” are Generations Embracing Ministry and Sisterhood and we would love to see ladies from youth to ??? We will have a short time for planning future events and mission projects. Our task for the evening will be painting wooden pegs for A Night in Bethlehem—no skills needed, just wear old clothes! Come out for some fun and fellowship and bring some coins for the Sunset Gap jar. Call Lisa Pecorini at 239-5072 if you have questions or need a ride.
Our New Pipe Organ: Help is needed to unload pipes and equipment for our new organ on Monday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. Both men and women are invited to help. The organ will be ready for full use on the first Sunday of Advent, December 2. Plans are underway for the Organ Dedication probably sometime in February, 2013. Both a worship service and an afternoon organ recital will be part of the Dedication festivities.
SUNSET GAP: There is a “Coin Jar” available in the Narthex and in the Multi before, during and after Sunday Services so you may make a donation to help a “Local Mission”. Sunset Gap Community Center in Cosby, TN suffered a fire in their dormitory during a fierce thunderstorm on Sunday, Aug. 5. The dormitory was used to house work groups that helped Sunset Gap with many useful year-round projects for the people of Appalachia. PCUSA began this mission over 80 yrs. Ago, and the dormitory was one of the originals. Their insurance will not cover the cost to rebuild a comparable building and all the furnishings.
BLOOD DRIVE: A new season is upon us. If you have not donated blood lately, now is a good time! The Marsh Regional Blood Center, located at Broad and Ravine in Kingsport, accepts donations on Monday and Thursday 10:30 – 6:00; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30 - 4:00; and first Saturdays of the month 8:30 – 12:00. Mention CHPC, and our Blood Assurance Program will be credited with your pint. The program assures no charge for blood that is needed in illness and emergency, and it is open to anyone who mentions the church. Donors must be 17 years old, weigh 120 pounds, and be in good health. The Mission Committee would like to thank the 7 donations already given this year. Can we reach a goal of 12??

Thank you: We wish to extend a huge "Thank You" to all of you for your prayers and support through my recent surgical process. The prayer chain, well wishes and meal which was provided proved nourishing to my body and soul. Once again - thank you all for your kindness and support! Steve & Vicky Laek
God’s Earth
On Sunday, Sept. 16, Norma & Bill Baezell attended the monthly meeting of the Green Interfaith Network Inc. (GINI) at the Johnson City Public Library. You may remember that GINI is a wonderful group of
people from ten E Tennessee and SW Virginia churches, (looking for more) who are committed to teaching conservation in their churches and local colleges. The speaker was author Jay Leutze, a University of NC law school graduate, who lives in the North Carolina mountains. His presentation was the true story in his book, Stand Up That Mountain, of helping the people of Dog Town, near the Appalachian Trail, in the Roan Mountain massif. They prevented a mining company and the State of NC from destroying their homes. This story is, against all odds, a testament to what united people can do to right a wrong.
Fall All-Church Retreat
October 13th
9am - 12noon
God has led us though the Unbinding Your Heart study. We've seen amazing things and heard stories of God changing lives. The Spirit has created momentum, opening a 'door' in our church where we can see all those people outside. Right now we are more ready to invite people into a life with Christ and into our church than any of us can remember in years. We are halfway there. We want to invite. But it won't happen just by wishing. We can't stop this wonderful process of prayer and study just with ourselves. Many of you asked… "What's next" or "How can we put all that we learned into action?" God has prepared us for what is next… and that is our Year of Invitation.
Join us for the kick off of the Year of Invitation by attending the Fall All-Church Retreat on October 13 from 9am to 12 noon. Childcare will be provided. Get involved in putting your faith into action. Be a part of the next great adventure in the life of our church. This event is for absolutely everyone. If you have grown through the Unbinding study; if you want to see this church grow and become a shining light to our community… then this retreat is for you! It is our sincere hope that all of our church will attend this event. The retreat will be held here at the church campus. We will worship, pray, share stories, and talk about how we can reach our community together.
