The Incorruptible Seed

The Incorruptible Seed

Amos 8:11 - “Behold, the days are coming, says the

Lord GOD, That I will send a famine on the land, Not

a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of

hearing the words of the LORD.”

Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed for lack of

knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I

also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because

you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will

forget your children.”

The Incorruptible Seed

 Simple scriptural logic:

Romans 1:16 – The gospel is God’s power in

salvation,

Romans 10:17 – The word of God is the means by

which we obtain access to this power by faith,

Therefore, the incorruptible word of God is our

power!

The Incorruptible Seed

By means of the incorruptible word, we have acquired

a home in heaven preserved until the judgment.

1Peter 1:3-5 - “Blessed be the God and Father of our

Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy

has begotten us again to a living hope through the

resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an

inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does

not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept

by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to

be revealed in the last time.”

The Incorruptible Seed

By means of the incorruptible word, we have gained faith that sustains us through every trial that would rob us of our joy, salvation, and eternal home.

1Peter 1:6-9 - “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls.”

The Incorruptible Seed

The ancient heroes of faith gave their all for a glimpse of what many take for granted. Angels did not have the privilege you now enjoy through the incorruptible word.

1Peter 1:10 - “Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into.”

The Incorruptible Seed

 What characteristics

of the incorruptible

seed in First Peter

make it unique

among all written

works?

It Is Divine In Origin

It was given by God Himself.

 2Peter 1:12, 15-16 - “For this reason I will not be

negligent to remind you always of these things,

though you know and are established in the present

truth. 15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you

always have a reminder of these things after my

decease. 16 For we did not follow cunningly devised

fables when we made known to you the power and

coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were

eyewitnesses of His majesty.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It was given by God Himself.

2Peter 1:19-21 - “And so we have the prophetic word

confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that

shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the

morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this

first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private

interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will

of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were

moved by the Holy Spirit.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It was given by God Himself.

 2Peter 3:1-2 - “Beloved, I now write to you

this second epistle (in both of which I stir up

your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that

you may be mindful of the words which were

spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the

commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord

and Savior.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It was given by God Himself.

2Tim. 3:14-17 - “But you must continue in the things which

you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom

you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you

have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make

you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ

Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is

profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for

instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be

complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It was given by God Himself.

John 16:13 - “However, when He, the Spirit of

truth, has come, He will guide you into all

truth; for He will not speak on His own

authority, but whatever He hears He will

speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It is designed to be understood by all men.

James 1:25 - “But he who looks into the

perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and

is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work,

this one will be blessed in what he does.”

1Cor. 1:17-18, 21-25 - “For Christ did not send me to

baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words,

lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For

the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are

perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of

God. 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world

through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through

the foolishness of the message preached to save those who

believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after

wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a

stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to

those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the

power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the

foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of

God is stronger than men.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It is designed to be understood by all men.

Eph. 3:3-4 - “How that by revelation He made

known to me the mystery (as I have briefly

written already, 4 by which, when you read,

you may understand my knowledge in the

mystery of Christ)”

It Is Divine In Origin

It is designed to be understood by all men.

 1John 5:13, 19-20 - “These things I have written to

you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that

you may know that you have eternal life, and that

you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of

God. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole

world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 20 And

we know that the Son of God has come and has given

us an understanding, that we may know Him who is

true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus

Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It is designed to be understood alike.

 1Cor. 1:10 - “Now I plead with you, brethren,

by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you

all speak the same thing, and that there be no

divisions among you, but that you be perfectly

joined together in the same mind and in the

same judgment.”

It Is Divine In Origin

It is designed to be understood alike.

Matt. 11:25 - “At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.”

Jude 3 - “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

There exists a single body of truth on any given

Bible matter. That body of truth is called "the

faith." There is a means whereby I apprehend

that body of truth. That means is described as

"my faith." My faith, based upon the faith, can

be strong or weak, depending on my level of

growth and willingness to study. However, the

faith is not modified by the strength or weakness

of my faith; it remains constant. Therefore, my

faith must measure up to the faith.

It Is Eternal

 God’s word is indestructible.

1Peter 1:23-25 - “Having been born again, not of

corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word

of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because All

flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the

flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower

falls away, 25 But the word of the LORD endures

forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was

preached to you.”

Matt. 24:35 - “Heaven and earth will pass away, but

My words will by no means pass away.”

It Is Eternal

 God’s word is indestructible.

No book in history has been more carefully, accurately, and completely preserved with its original message intact and untainted.

No other book in history has ever had the universal distribution the Bible has enjoyed.

No other book in history has ever had the impact on the world secularly and religiously as the Bible.

No other book has the power to guide us from this physical world of death and decay to a realm of eternal life and joy.

It Gives And Sustains Life

By it one is born again.

It is the “incorruptible seed” which “lives and abides forever” - 1Peter 1:23.

It is “living and powerful” - Heb. 4:12.

Jesus said: “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” - John 6:63.

When one believes the Word of God and obeys it, he is truly born again - James 1:18.

James 1:18 - “Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.”

It Gives And Sustains Life

By it one purifies his soul.

1Peter 1:22 - “Since you have purified your

souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in

sincere love of the brethren, love one another

fervently with a pure heart.”

John 17:17 - “Sanctify them by thy truth. Thy

word is truth.”

The Incorruptible Seed

Will the incorruptible seed retain these characteristics if mingled with the doctrines and fashions of men?

Gal. 1:6-10 - “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”

The Incorruptible Seed

 What constitutes preaching another gospel?

Any addition to or subtraction from the word.

Any over or under emphasis of a Bible principle.

Any scruple of conscience bound as doctrine.

 Any ignorance taught as truth.

 Any loosing of a doctrine.

The Incorruptible Seed

What relationship can one maintain with

those who advocate any mixture of error

with the incorruptible seed?

Eph. 5:11 - “And have no fellowship with the

unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose

them.”

The Incorruptible Seed

What relationship can one maintain with those

who advocate any mixture of error with the

incorruptible seed?

2John 9-11 - “Whoever transgresses and does not

abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He

who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the

Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and

does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into

your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him

shares in his evil deeds.”

The Incorruptible Seed

Embrace, believe, and obey the incorruptible seed,

for it alone can save.

 1Cor. 15:1-4 - “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you

the gospel which I preached to you, which also you

received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you

are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached

to you--unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered

to you first of all that which I also received: that

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4

and that He was buried, and that He rose again the

third day according to the Scriptures.”
