Chair’s Welcome

Welcome to the HWAT Open Studios trail for 2018. We’ve returned to earlier dates this year – the final two weekends of May – 19th/20th and 26th/27th/28th (including bank holiday Monday). In a new feature for 2018, a group of 7 members specialising in textile work will be offering an extra ‘hands on’ open day on Friday 18th May, aimed at giving visitors a practical studio experience. We are pleased that The Farmer’s Kitchen, Alburgh, will host a ‘taster’ exhibition and act as a ‘hub’ for Trail information for the whole of May. A great place to sample work from all 24 Trail members and plan your route, The Farmer’s Kitchen is on the main A143 between Harleston and Bungay. Many members exhibit there regularly during the year. Membership of HWAT is subject to the slightly shifting sands of artistic life here on our stretch of the Waveney. We experience regular renewal as a result of house moves, retirement, poor health, change of artistic focus or time out for research. All are part of the natural artistic order and this is reflected in the number of studios open in any one year. We are pleased to welcome one new member this year and hope you are able to visit as many of the 24 studios as possible. Please enjoy our 2018 Trail and support our advertisers – as ever, we are truly grateful for their generous support.
