The advantages of 1st generation computers

• Invented in 1940-1956• The first computers used vacuum tubes for

circuitry• They also used magnetic drums for

memory• They’re enormous computers taking up a

lot of space• Very expensive to operate and deals huge

amounts of electricity• They relied on machine language• The input was based on punched cards

and paper tape

2nd Generation Computers• Invented in 1956-1963• Computers were smaller• The 2nd generation computers were

faster than the 1st generation computers• It was cheaper because it was

smaller than the 1st one• Consistently good in quality or

performance; able to be trusted.

3rd Generation Computers• Invented in 1964-1971• They developed the integrated

circuit• Transistors were miniature and

placed on silicon chips which increases the speed of computers• Had computer networking
