The Executive Insight SeriesTM (EIS) assists high-potential Pan-Asian managers, seniorprofessionals and young executives attain leadership roles in major U.S. corporations.

Ascend created The Executive Insight for Pan-Asian Women (EIW) program to help mid-level Pan- Asian female managers address common challenges as they rise within their respective organizations in corporate America. Developed by Pan-Asian female executives based on contemporary issues raised during focus groups conducted in 2013, this program provides both conceptual frameworks and pragmatic, actionable advice on addressing these issues with a deep understanding of the influence from Pan-Asian cultural values.

• Features five Ascend-created interactive modules focused on executive leadership skills for groups of up to 30 high-potential managers and recent executives

• Modules developed/delivered by Pan-Asian corporate executives and available exclusively to Ascend corporate partners nationwide and to local chapters

• Scope covering real-life management decisions made, what behaviors, skills, competencies, and experiences are needed at the executive level, and the unwritten rules of the game

Myths of Asian Leadership program examines common misconceptions about Pan-Asians and why so few Pan-Asians in global corporations reach the senior level. Despite the strong work ethic, academic achievement and extensive contributions to business, few Pan-Asians have obtained senior leadership or executive level positions.

Regional and Chapter Programs

Ascend’s LEAD Series helps members develop and strengthen leadership skills that enable them to advance and achieve their professional goals. Executive panelists from diverse fields share experiences including what shaped their decisions and perspectives. Mentoring circles

and/or a general question and answer session follow the panel discussion.

The 12-month mentoring program provides the tools necessary to enhance leadership, teaching and coaching skills. Mentors have the opportunity to strengthen knowledge base

and improve communication skills while gaining satisfaction and recognition by helping mentees gain insight that help them develop professionally.

INSPIRING ACROSS GENERATIONS (IAG) CONFERENCES

Inspiring Across Generations (IAG) regional conferences gather our corporate and community partners for a day of leadership, mentorship and relationship development programs providing insight and benefits for both students and seasoned professionals. These

conferences also provide networking opportunities with leaders, professionals and students at the local level.

Regional and Chapter Programs (cont’d)BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE / CXO SERIESThis series of events is designed to foster discussions among business executives of companies. The objective of the program is to create relationship opportunities for mid-level and senior executives, enhance financial and business knowledge, showcase successful Pan-Asians and discuss complex and relevant business issues. Sample topics have included: Mergers & Acquisitions, Clean Technology, Doing Business in Asia and Healthcare in the US.

NETWORKING INITIATIVESAscend seeks to identify, develop and empower Pan-Asian leaders. Ascend targets individuals from variety of companies and students from top tier universities to participate in networking activities. The goals of Ascend Networking Initiatives are to:• Provide networking opportunities for business development and career development• Present opportunities to students to enhance knowledge of major corporations, network with potential employers, and develop relationships• Build new relationships with peers from variety of companies

COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVESAscend gives back to the community through participation in a variety of volunteer events. The goals of the Community Outreach Initiatives are to:• Provide opportunities to the members to give back to the community• Increase Ascend’s presence in the community

STUDENT CHAPTERS AND MBA AFFILIATESOur student chapters focus on fostering the next generation of Pan-Asian leaders. Student chapters organize networking events, company visits, and deliver programs focusing on leadership training and provide resume and interview critiques. These chapters bring unique value to the members by creating a platform for career development and by helping them build a network of mentors and coaches. Existing MBA clubs are part of our MBA initiative and affiliate program. The Greater Washington Chapter currently fosters a close relationship with the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, officially called a Student Business Alliance.

AFFINITY GROUPS, EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUPS (ERGs) AND BUSINESS RESOURCE GROUPS (BRGs)Ascend works with corporate affinity, diversity and multicultural groups to bring content and programming to partners and other organizations. We help these groups share best practices and enhance their value to corporations. We work with associations such as Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), National Arab American Bar Association (NAABA), National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), and Asian Pacific Bar Association (APABA) to increase external involvement and relationship-building.

MEMBERSHIP AND SOCIAL PROGRAMSMembership and social programs complement our professional programs to build deeper relationships in the community with networking functions and other fun-filled activities.

Greater Washington DC ChapterMembership Profile

The Greater Washington DC area ranks sixth in the list of metropolitan areas (greater than $250,000 people) with the highest population of Asian Americans, 9.3% of total population.1

Despite the approximately 572,000 Asian Americans living in this area, most of our members have less than 5 years of experience. Almost a quarter of our membership are mid-level managers, and another 30% are senior managers and executives. Our Chapter provides various types of programming for all members throughout their careers, although most programs tend to focus on our mid-level and junior members since they comprise the majority of our membership.
