•Create a new vector of products in the mobile category•Provide a FULL PC experience with the flexibility of mobility•Sleek, thinner and lighter devices•Multi-tasking performance & rich internet experience•Create videos, edit photos, burn CD&DVD•Quiet cooling solutions•Lower overall platform power for improved battery life
Mobile Device Operating Systems
• Windows XP Home/Professional/XPe• Traditional Linux Distributions• Intel Moblin Project• Google Android• Ubuntu Netbook Remix• Windows 7 Starter• gOS• Cloud based Operating System• Mac OS X
Cloud Computing
• A definition refers to any situation in which computing is done in a remote location (out in the clouds), rather than on your desktop or portable device.
• You tap into that computing power over an Internet connection.
"The cloud is a smart, complex, powerful computing system in the sky that people can just plug into."
Web browser pioneer Marc AndreessenSource: http://www.businessweek.com
Cloud Structure
Source: http://news.cnet.com
Cloud Benefits:
• Cloud = Less Investment(not own data center, hardware; use outside provider of servers, storage, and bandwidth)
• Cloud = Scale (tens of thousands of server computers)
• Cloud = Flexible and Efficiency
Cloud Computing Types
Cloud Operating Systems
• Work completely online – personally OR collaboratively• Provide basic OS functionality• Centrally manage OS “images”• Public or Private cloud services• Enable lower cost computing elements (lower cost
netbooks)• Various Fee and free offerings
Intel My WiFi Technology – Sync, Share, Show
• Sync Wi-Fi enabled devlices like media players or digital cameras• Share content among your Wi-Fi devices anywhere• Show content from one Wi-Fi enabled device on another Wi-Fi device. Ex. Show a
streaming video from the Internet on an HDTV• Print directly to a Wi-Fi enabled printer• My WiFi technology lets your Wi-Fi enabled CE devices connect directly and
securely to your notebook without having to go through a Wi-Fi network access point. Your Intel Centrino 2 processor technology based notebook is your own portable Wi-Fi network.
• Intel My WiFi technology inherits the same mature security capabilities of conventional Wi-Fi (i.e. WPA, WPA2, etc)
• Intel WiFi Link 5100 or Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 required – Windows Vista & Win 7

Securing and Managing the Mobile device
– TPM is the foundation– first shipped in 1999, 20+ million shipped to-date
– Intel vPro can be an additional malware and manageability – TPM is integrating with mainstream applications: Adobe
Acrobat, Checkpoint VPN, Cisco VPN, Verisign Personal Trust Agent, Utimaco, Absolute Software, etc.
– Integrated Biometric Security measures – FPR, Facial Recognition
– Integration of Biometric fingerprint AND TPM– Computrace Agent in BIOS for AssetTrack and Theft recovery– Systems Management via Internet Gateway– Device Management, NAC and HIPS

What is a “Multi User” OS Environment?
• Hardware/Software stack that runs applications on a remote server, not on a local desktop.
• Key strokes and mouse click are sent over network to the server to process and give back the result…… thus sometimes referred to as “screen-casting”
• Clients can be a low powered PC or a Thin client device.• Thin Clients typically don’t have HDD, FDD, CDROMS,
Cooling Fans. Most have Low Processing Power.
What is a Thin Client? How does it work?
• Small User device about 1/3 Size Of PC.• Can Support Windows CE, XP Embedded, Thin OS’s (i.e. ThinConnect)
and Linux Environments.• Some are configured with NO local OS.• Can Be Configured On As Low As 16Mb Of RAM.• Same Feel As Working On a Windows Based OS – basic Windows
fidelity.• Remote Computation….Server Takes Care Of All The Processing.• Works On either Citrix`s ICA (Independent Computing Architecture),
Sun’s ALP (Appliance Link Protocol) Or Microsoft's RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) Protocols (Both Require Only 20Kbps Speed Over Network To Work).
• User Logs Onto The Server Via Web Portal And A Familiar Windows Base Environment is Replicated to Users Screens With Access To Application, Internet, Mail, Drives, Printers, Etc.
Thin Clients – General Overview
• Sun Microsystems – SunRay 2 (All based on Sun Ray OS)
Range from $349.00 to $799.00 depending on configuration
• HP 5000 Series– (OS Choice: HP ThinConnect, ThinPro, Xpe or CE6) Range from $249.00 to $600.00 depending on configuration
• Wyse S, V, R, G series (OS Choice: Linux, Xpe, CE6, Zero – WSM)
Range from $250.00 to $1200.00

Capacity of the average CPU is under-utilized (using less than 10%!)

NComputing Access Terminals are slim, silent, efficient, and very low cost
L-Series: Ethernet Connection
Hardware Product Line OverviewX-Series: Direct Connection
• Lowest Cost • Full multimedia• Host in same room (10m)• 1 watt per user• X550: Up to 11 users per host• X300: Up to 7 users per host
• Most Flexible• Highest # of users per host• Ethernet = no distance limits• 5 watts per user • Up to 30 users per host computer
X Series Configuration
Note: Four users can share a PC running with one X300 kit. Seven users can share with two X300 kits.
Ideal environments: K-12
L Series Deployment Architecture
Note: Up to 30 users can share if the host hardware is a server running a server OS(i.e. Terminal Server 2008).
Ideal Environments: Some Higher Ed computer labsConnects over the LAN or WAN at any distance using an IP address
Why buy an access terminal vs. another PC•Saves Hardware cost (less expensive than a thin client and easier to deploy).•Reduces IT Maintenance•Promotes central storage networks to increase data security•Reduces Power consumption and saves energy•Essentially, never obsolete and easy to upgrade•Eliminate any down time by having multiple host PC’s
Sample Hardware Virtualized environment
During Class Time, Playing a game
Send a warning message to a student and close an game
window by using NControl
NControl can monitor student sessions, send warnings, and even close the game window
Student is playing a game in class
In this example, just four host PCs are needed for a lab with 24 students!
Access Terminal at student: Powered by the Ethernet cable, so no additional electrical needed Generates no heat, hence no HVAC retrofits required
Only 1 network cable dropfeeds 7 students -- dramatically reducingwiring costs/time
