THE FUTURE
MANY AUTHORS, SCIENTISTS, ARTISTS AND FANATICS HAD VISIONS OF WHAT THE FUTURE WOULD BE LIKE… DO YOU RECOGNISE ANY OF THESE? DO YOUR PARENTS OR SIBLINGS RECOGNISE ANY? WHAT VISION OF THE FUTURE DID THESE PEOPLE HAVE?
TIME TO RELAX…. (ISH)
Sit back and relax, watch the following clips showing how TV shows and films over the years have portrayed the future.
Note: This will help you with this weeks projects tasks so consider;
What is the vision of the future like?
Is it different from now? How/Why?
Are there any visions that have come true?
Are there any visions that you think are really far fetched?
What do they have in the future that we don’t?
Why do writers, directors choose to portray the future in this way?

HISTORY – WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
We live in a world that is constantly changing, everyday seems different. But what does the future hold?
Create a timeline of events. Use bullet points and pictures to show what you think the world will be like in 5, 10, 15, 20
years time! Use the example below to set out your timings.
5 years 10 years 50 years 100 years 250 years 500 years20 years
HISTORY - LOCKDOWN TIME CAPSULE
Throughout History there have been events happen that have shaped the way our lives are today. 2020 is a year for History, we
are living through a Historical event. It’s important that we stay motivated and positive and look toward the future. This week I
would like you to create a time capsule, something to look back on in 1 year, 3 years maybe even 5. This can be a private,
personal way for you to remember your thoughts and feelings during this time. Or it can be a way for you to remember all of the
things you achieved whilst the world was a slightly different place.
You will need:
• An old shoebox or container
• Tape or string to seal
• A bin bag to make it waterproof
• An attic or secret hiding place
• Lots of patience (so you don’t open your
capsule too soon!)
Possible ideas for your capsule:
• A newspaper or magazine with today’s date
• A 2020 dated coin (if you can find one)
• A drawing of your family or friends
• Memorabilia from in the garden (a pressed flower, or
painted pebble with today’s date)
• A letter to yourself
• Notes from your family members
• Your handprint to see how much you grow!
• Photos (if you can)
• A piece of work you are proud of from home learning
ENGLISH TASK – CREATIVE WRITING PROMPT
Use the image below as a prompt to write a descriptive piece of writing. Remember to use the senses and language
devices we studied in travel writing. Be really creative with this ☺
LITERACY TASK – PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE TENSES
Verb Tenses: Tell us WHEN an action is taking place.
There are 3 main verb tenses:
PAST
An action that already took
place.
Usually, you –ed to the end
of the verb.
The man walked
The dog jumped
PRESENT
An action that is happening
right now
We use the base form of
the verb and add –s or –ing
He walks
He is walking
FUTURE
An action that is going to
happen
Add the word will in front of
the base of the verb.
They will talk later
I will read my book
LITERACY TASK – PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE TENSES
Now it is your turn…
Write five sentences in the past tense about an alien spaceship which landed on Earth.
Now write five sentences in the present tense about what the aliens find now they have landed
on Earth.
Finally, write five sentences in the future tense about what the aliens plan to do next week, now
they are on Earth.
ART TASK – DESIGN YOUR OWN FUTURE CAR
Your task is to design your own future car like DeLorean from ‘Back to the Future’.
You need to draw, colour and label your car. Think about how your car runs – would it be charged up like your phone
perhaps?
THE FUTURE OF FOOD – WHAT WILL WE EAT IN 2028?
• ‘In the next 10 years, personalised nutrition will be
tailored to the individual’
• In 2028 food will be engineered to be more nutritious
• In 2028 food will be different from anything you’ve
ever tasted before!
• In 2028 food will be guilt free
• In 2028 food will be more creative
• In 2028 food could be 3D printed!
Your task: Design a plate of food that
resembles what food could like in the future.
Be inspired by Willy Wonker’s Gob stopper –
what will you create?
TECHNOLOGY TASK
Imagine that you are an engineer. Design a new robot that could help someone in the future. You need to think
about:
The purpose of your robot
The functions
Where the robot would be used (in the workplace, at home)
The robots name
The way the robot looks
1. Draw and label your robot, explaining your ideas and how it can be used
2. Imagine you are pitching your robot on a show like Dragons Den – write your pitch and ask for some funding
to get your robot up and running (You can record and send your pitch to Miss N if you wish).
SCIENCE TASK
How have the Space vehicles changed over time?
Find pictures of the original Saturn V rocket that took humans to the moon, the Space Shuttle that followed and
now the Dragon, Falcon and SpaceShipTwo that are being developed.
How do they compare in;
• Size
• The materials they are made of
• What they were/are designed for
Create a display showing how space vehicles have changed over time and what the future may hold for human
spaceflight.
