M. OF W. MEN MEET AT MONETT

Approximately 200 maintenance of way men from the Eastern. Northern, Southwestern and Central divisions met a t the Casino, Monett, Mo., where they held an all day meeting on Sun- day, May 20. The meeting was in charge of E. L. Collette, division en- gineer of Ft. Smith, and D. E. Gelwix, division engineer of Springfield, Mo.

Much good was derived from the various discussions, which w e r e recorded during the day's meeting.

Questions from a questionnaire which had been prepared and sent out by Mr. Collette were gone over care- fully, wbth general discussions follow- ing. C. H. Baltzell, director of acci- dent prevention, talked a t length of the accidents on Frisco Lines and of precautions that should be taken.

Martha Moore, editor of the Frisco Magazine, asked each man present to pledge himself to securing a t least one passenger t o the World's Fair a t Chicago. The request met with a ready response and each man present left the meeting with the determina- tion not only t o maintain the best track possible on bins division, but to assist, when possible, in the solicita- tion of business, both freight and passenger.

The guests were served a dinner a t noon in the spacious Casino a t Monett, and the meeting was ad- journed a t about 4:00 p. m., so that the men might return by train to their respective homes.

yet reviewed is now available, and should be purchased by each school or each school child, if that child is particularly interested in railroading.

The book is titled "Trains" and was compiled by Robert Selph Henry. Mr. Henry is a skilled writer who knows how to organize his material, to pre- sent i t clearly, simply, graphically. in order, who never makes the mis- take of writing "down" to his audi- ence, but speaks straight out; who equally avoids the morass of text- bookish detail.

H e is a recognized historian, the author of "The Story of the Con- federacy". H e presents in this book, "Trains", a fascinating account of railroading in America, not so much the flnancial or political aspects a s the train itself, but what makes i ts wheels go round and get there, what it has meant and means to the nation, the stupendous achievement of rail transportation covering a continent.

The professional railroader will find here an illuminating picture of t h e entire field; the layman will find a book of information and delight.

The price of the book is $2.50 and it may be ordered from The Bobbs- Merrill Company of Indianapolis, Ind. It is replete with photographs of both old and new equipment gathered from the files of various railroads throughout the country.
