It is an exciting time for the Abqaiq Community, with lots of international events going on. With the recent International Dance Festival that was quite a hit with the crowds, the Boy Scouts with their explorative SciTech trip, and FOLKS with their amazing art and craft sessions, the last month has been fun to say the least.

Abqaiq Spotlight
The Abqaiq Spotlight team has
been working on a reviewed edition
of the famous fairy tale, Beauty and
the Beast. Whoever is expecting the
classic fairy tale, or a show only for
children, will certainly be
disappointed because it is going to
be a proper show. Children and
adults both will certainly fall in love
with it.
The show is not a mere
reproduction of the classic fairy tale,
but is a complete reconsidered
version from a both musical and
theatrical writing angle. The choice of
the Rock version recalls a period of
changes regarding a social and
human growth. The electric guitar
represents the positive excellence
catharsis: the sublime suffering,
which flows into the art and becomes
the tool to recuperate an identity that
has been hidden for a long time
The music breaks down the
loneliness of the character and
becomes the instrument not only of
the catharsis, but also of the
communication, the key that opens
the doors to understanding others.
profound essence of the story
In this way, the profound essence
of the story, the inside trip, which
develops on two sides, is highlighted
in two different ways: The Beast
overcomes the selfish and egocentric
sides, the development of the ability
to be united with each other. From
mental openness, the ability to look
at the other, and the ability to
perceive the diversity from self as
something that is not negative. To
provide others with an additional
opportunity, an opportunity to
rediscover themselves.
If one mirrors himself into
themselves in a different way, in a
better way, if they have the
opportunity to discover their hidden
potentialities, they also have the
chance to develop, to improve, and
to discover their real self.
prologue we find the Enchantress
character, which represents the
double, the extremes: short-tall,
beautiful-ugly, young-old, dark-shine,
appearance-substance, and life-
death.
It does not need to be misled by
appearance, because often the
beauty of the soul is hidden in the
profundity. To light up the long way,
which drives to the discovering of the
inside world comprehension, respect,
and tolerance are necessary.
Why does the charmer change the
prince into a Beast?
To come back to the origins,
facing the instincts, the fears, and the
fragility, the individual can overcome
his own limits, break the wall of the
appearance and recuperate the
substance, the crystal beauty of the
generous human being, and the most
pure face of humanity.

Abqaiq Boy Cub Scouts Club
a thrilling, educational, explorative trip
for the cub scouts by Rinnie Nelson photos by Rinnie Nelson
An exciting day unfolded for the
Abqaiq Boy Cub Scouts Club
(ABCSC) on Saturday, October 7,
when over 40 Cub Scouts and their
families, along with their trusted Den
Leaders, ventured out of the Abqaiq
Community for their first-ever field
trip to the SciTech Technology Center
in Al-Khobar.
a mesmerizing scientific experience
In their various Dens, the boys
explored the many scientific sections
of SciTech, including the Earth and
Space Hall, the Hall of Strange
Science, and Technical Creativity Hall.
For many families, it was their first
time at the center, and for those who
had visited before, there were many
new things to discover. The boys had

up our planet. They listened to the
way the ocean mammals, such as
whales and dolphins, communicate
with each other under the water,
they could replicate a small tornado,
experimented with magnets,
operated robotic hands to pick up
items, and felt the power of a
simulated earthquake!
hands-on, learning goals, and fun
The field trip, however, was more
than just a thrilling exploration of all
the scientific halls SciTech had to
offer. Every cub scout had specific
activities to complete during his visit
including a Scavenger hunt! With the
help of their Den Leaders and
accompanying family members, the
cub scouts learned many new things
in a hands-on, interactive
environment. This was not only
beneficial from an educational point
of view, but it also assisted them in
achieving specific learning goals every
Cub Scout is required to achieve to
advance in rank.
It was an adventurous day indeed
with many Cub Scout families stating
they would be back again to the

pleased to welcome Nisreen Banat

FOLKS have had some wonderful

September and October.
learning the letter A
The beautiful and colorful
activities at the art and craft sessions
started with the first letter of
alphabet on September 18 in the
morning session with Banat and
Suzan Fenj Saleh. The children were
really excited as it was the first art
and craft activity after the summer
break. It was surely a happy and
exciting start as the children used
their favorite colors to paint the
letter A and also learned how to
write and pronounce it.
making of cupcake flowers and
Autumn pumpkins
FOLKS have also had two
additional exciting art and craft
sessions making a cupcake flower
and making an Autumn pumpkin,
with the lovely Abir Samman Taleb
joining Saleh and Banat.
Children had so much fun making
these art pieces and engaging in
some interactive learning. They
behaved well and followed the
instructions for making the colorful,
beautiful art pieces, which are now

only a way for the children to learn
and interact with each other, but also
a brilliant way to keep our memories
colorful since so many people from
different parts of the world have
come together here in Abqaiq.
The Hands Tree has also been put

pieces made by the little ones
FOLKS mothers are most welcome to
come and see the latest additions to

Spanish lessons
FOLKS children have also been
learning the Spanish Alphabet and
some common Spanish words at the
regular Spanish lessons by the lovely
and energetic Marisela Ravelo. It is
delightful that the children not only
learn, but also take a keen interest in
these activities.
FOLKS daddy sessions
The FOLKS daddy sessions have
also been a success and there is an
increasing number of fathers bringing
their little ones every Saturday. These
sessions make it possible for the
fathers to have fun with their little
ones and also make FOLKS a place for
the whole family.

Saudi Aramco Expatriate School
School year off to a great start
by Liana Amy photos by Sonia Chapman, Liana Amy, Peter Amy, Sarah Charles, Alicia Whittaker, and Rosa Mendoza
The 2017-2018 school year is off
to a great start! After-school and
lunch clubs have been a huge hit
again this year, attracting many
students and keeping teachers and
volunteers busy. Clubs this year
include (among many others) the
International Dance club, Chess club,
Animation Creation club, Inline
Hockey club, and other clubs still to
come. For middle school students,
Volleyball season is in full swing with
multiple after‑school practices and
games taking place at the different
Saudi Aramco Communities.
fun athletics
To kickoff things with an
energetic start, elementary students
in Grade One through Three took
part in a grade level Olympic mixer
activity! Each grade level had a
athletic activities including long jump,
gymnastics, soccer, basketball, hula
hooping, target throwing, and
swimming. Students had a great time
testing their skills and cheering each
other on. Thanks to Tony Henry and
his students for their help in making
this event a success.
elementary school nutrition challenge
October was also the time for the
Abqaiq Elementary School nutrition
challenge. Each year students take on
the challenge to earn points for their
class by bringing and eating a fruit or
vegetable first for their morning
snack. The idea was that by eating
the healthy foods first students would
eat less of the unhealthy options (i.e.
chips, cookies). This would better fuel
their minds and bodies for more
effective learning in the classroom,
and will develop some healthful
lifelong habits. Like last year, students
were challenged to increase the
variety of fruits and vegetables they
ate over the month. Each class
tracked all the different kinds of fruits
and vegetables students brought to
champs will be announced soon!
