Principal’s Report
NORTHERN BEACHES INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
What a fabulous time all of our band and strings groups had this weekend. The Concert
and Training Bands performed on Friday night and the Intermediate Band and Strings
Groups performed on Sunday. I was thrilled to hear that all performances were of a very
high standard and were not only enjoyed by the audience but that the children really
enjoyed them too. Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to a commitment in Port
Macquarie but was thrilled to get such positive feedback today.
What huge value there is in performing and receiving a mini tutorial and feedback, which
will both improve and enhance students’ future performances. It is also wonderful to have
an audience to share and enjoy the event, which is a celebration of music but is not
competitive. Congratulations to every student in these wonderful programs and all staff
and parents involved.

DANCE – Glen Street
Our 3 dance groups will be performing at Glen Street over the next 2 weeks. I would like
to thank all students and parents for their participation in dance and for ensuring
students arrive at their allocated performances on time. It is a wonderful opportunity for
students to truly participate in the theatre of dance in a forum outside their school and I
am really looking forward to seeing all of our students perform.
The performance dance groups are; ‘Ra’, ‘Chim Chimeny’, and ‘Basketball Beats’.
An enormous thank you to Vanessa Price and Nicole Amery, Tess McAllister and Chris
Williamson for their choreography and management of their dance groups and also to
Katy Costa for coordinating all 3 groups. What a great way to finish Term 2.
GROWTH MINDSET
How to Support your child through disappointment.
When parents support children in dealing with disappointment it can lead to the
development of adaptation and resilience, which are both important for children in order
for them to bounce back from difficult experiences throughout life.
Here are some more ways you can help children deal with disappointment:
1. Acknowledge your child’s feelings
Let them know that you understand. It is important to label and validate children’s
feelings. Be mindful of what you are creating excitement about; children will model
your lead. Tell your child that you recognize why they are feeling disappointed and that
it’s OK to express this emotion.
In order for children to develop a positive sense of self, empathy and social skills, they
need to be able to feel, label and talk about all feelings.
2. Share your own disappointments
To encourage children to embrace and express their emotions, it is helpful to share a story
of a time when you also felt disappointments. This validates but also lessens the idea that
they are alone in their feelings.
