The following presentation provides a general overview about the IEEE Foundation. This information will assist potential donors and
IEEE Organizational Unit (OU) board committee members in making informed decisions
regarding how to establish a Fund within the IEEE Foundation.

Serve as Fund Administrator
Donors and IEEE OU’s can request that the IEEE Foundation establish a fund:
Fund can be for a specific activity (travel grant/award/scholarship) or general in scope
Fund is used to accept and manage contributions given to support philanthropic activity
Fund must have minimum balance of US$20,000
Serve as Fund Administrator
Benefits Include: Separately managed fund
Professional staff to assist with initial fundraising efforts and promotion of the fund
Ongoing donor reporting and stewardship
Investment management
Annual fund balance report
Awareness-building regarding benefits of fund
Assist with Fundraising EffortsIEEE Development Office will:
Provide consultation on fundraising efforts
Assist with solicitation materials including: online giving, matching gifts, tribute giving, and direct mail solicitation
Assist with cultivation of major donors ($10k and up) to discuss giving opportunities
Negotiate gifts to ‘seed’ the Fund and arrange gift agreements for major gifts
Acknowledge gifts and steward donors

How to Establish a Fund by an IEEE OU
Unit prepares and submits an agenda item to the IEEE Foundation to
request a new fund be established (call or email for a template)
Item must include:-Name of Fund and Unit-Program to be supported-Source of funding and type of fund -Committee that will administer the program-Status of program establishment-Agreement that a reasonable investment and administrative fees will be charge to the fund
If IEEE OU Provides Funding
Per IEEE Financial Operations Manual, Units must obtain approval
to donate funds Donations less than $5,000 must be approved by
the appropriate Vice President Donations of $5,000 and more must be approved
by the IEEE Executive Committee Templates are available for the agenda item
and financial implication statement that must be prepared and submitted to IEEE
